David
In reality right now, I don't think it matters who you put in there with Silva. As much as I love Chael I don't give him much chance at all in the rematch, I think Silva will beat him comfortably. I disagree. I see Sonnen winning this fight by late referee stoppage. Â I'm sure you were touting Bisping for a Title shot a few months ago, they could have easily made that instead of putting him with Miller. Bisping is due a title shot, and I think a win over Miller will get it for him. Â Sonnen was always getting a rematch. Shit we were all talking about it before he was back fighting and before he beat Stann. I can't speak for you obviously, but I was talking about the rematch based on what he did in the first fight, not what he was saying. If he had gotten dominated I wouldn't have been interested in seeing another fight between them, regardless of what Sonnen had said.
Paid Members Snake Plissken Posted November 1, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted November 1, 2011 Anderson has just come out and stated that he wants to fight out for another 7/8 years now and that Sonnen should not be granted a rematch, in fact he shouldn't be in the sport at all as every time he opens his mouth he brings the sport down. Here's hoping he sticks to that. Â I agree with David that if Bisping beats Mayhem he gets a title shot. Â Also Maia has called out Shields saying that he would like to welcome him back into the Middleweight division.

Agreed, but they could have made Bisping/Stann had they wanted that as a number 1 contender fight, but with Chael waiting in the wings, we all know there was only going to be 1 guy to fight Stann. You can bet your arse that Dana and co had every finger crossed for a Sonnen win too.

David
Because no matter what, they wanted Chael straight back into the title mix. It's not fucking rocket science I'm not disputing that the UFC wanted Sonnen back in the mix, but he wouldn't be in the fucking mix if he'd lost comprehensively in the first bout between them. I know that you're trying to insinuate that this fight would be going ahead regardless of the result in the first fight because it's ~BIG MONEY~, but I disagree.  Sonnen is in there because he's the #2 guy in that division, and he came so close to winning in the 1st bout. If it wasn't him, who else would be facing Anderson? Chael beat Brian Stann in devastating fashion, cementing his place as the next contender.  Will the fight sell more because of Chael's nonsense? No doubt.

No doubt.  As far as the first fight goes, Chael won 4 rounds but then tapped convincingly. He might have been doing well, but he was beaten (despite alledged juicing and an injured Silva.) Have you ever seen anyone who lost convincingly get a rematch so quickly even after a 12 month hiatus? (outside Shogun/Machida which was a different thing all together).  All's I'm saying is that Bisping could have got the number 1 contender fight with Stann, but he didn't, because giving it to Chael and having him face Anderson again makes 10 times more money. I'm happy about it, but to say Chael is "Easily no.1 contender" is pushing it. He's done enough yes, but he's had a firm hand pushing him on the way. Bisping was always going to be tied up in the Ultimate Fighter show, so that ruled him out. Regardless, I disagree that Sonnen is anything other than the #1 contender. That first fight had people asking questions about Anderson that hadn't been asked before.

David
Bisping is coming off a win against a veteran Jorge Rivera, and before that he beat the hugely disappointing Akiyama via decision. Not exactly enough to get him a titleshot at present I feel. As I said, a win over Miller will put him in the frame to face the winner of Sonnen & Silva hopefully. Â I'm not buying into your theory that Sonnen would have got the next shot even if he'd been beaten easily by Silva in their first fight. I'm just not in agreement there. Sonnen cemented his position as the #1 contender by putting Brian Stann away in absolutely dominant fashion, and deserves the shot regardless of his pro wrestling schtick. Â I suggest we just leave it here, and agree to disagree. This is the news & events thread man, and we're stinking it up!
