Scottish Football Discussion Thread 2010/11

We were smashing yesterday. Jelavic is finally getting the chance to show the form we knew he could produce, Healy has a scoring record of one goal in one half hour already and although Naismith was taken off injured in the first half, it was likely more of a precaution since he'll be needed for Thursday's game. Weiss was brilliant too. Very pleased.

Although I would agree that Rangers were in top form, I wouldn't get too carried away with the result.

We had quite a few players missing, and our squad is so low on replacements that we had to field an injured Craigan, who had picked up a knock in the Scotland game. A great performance, yes, but it wasn't a full strength Motherwell side by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, I wouldn't take that Rangers result as being anything major. Motherwell, as David said, are heavily depleted.

Rangers vs Celtic have NOTHING on Cumnock Juniors vs Auchinleck Talbot..

Junior football match descends into chaos after thug bottles fan

A THUG assaulted a rival fan with a Buckfast bottle during a junior football match.

It came as a local derby descended into violence yesterday as supporters fought on the pitch. Women and children as young as 12 were seen wading in to the battle.

Police had earlier intervened when missles were thrown in a section of the 2000-strong crowd at half time.

One witness said: "I've never seen anything like this at a football match. Those involved are mindless scum.

"The ref just wanted to get the game over and players back in the dressing room. He didn't play the full 90 minutes. No one can blame him.

"The trouble happened down in one corner of the ground and then spread on to the pitch.

"Men, women and children from both sides were attacking each other and there were bottles flying.

"Police had to radio for back-up as there were just too many people on the pitch for them to handle.

"The fans involved don't go to the games every week, they only ever turn up for the derby matches and are determined to cause trouble."

The disgraceful scenes unfolded 10 minutes from the end of Scottish Junior Cup fourth round match between Ayrshire sides Cumnock Juniors and Auchinleck Talbot at Cumnock's Townhead Park. Players and coaching stafftried to help police restrain the thugs but mounted officers had to be drafted in.

The match was halted for 10 minutes while officers regained control and fans said the ref only played about eight minutes after the game finally restarted. Auchinleck won 3-0.

At full-time, police escorted both sets of fans out of the ground but violence erupted again in Cumnock town centre. Despite the trouble, Strathclyde Police said there had only been three arrests, none of them directly related to the violence.

A spokeswoman said: "They were for breach of the peace, street drinking and drugs possession."

She added an increased police presence was at the match due to "historical issues" with fans.

Cumnock and Auchinleck are less than two miles apart and have one of the fiercest rivalries in junior football.

Motherwell and Kilmarnock casuals. What is the world coming too to? Was it three men and a dog like their usual support?

The words of a knuckle-dragging glory hunter indeed. Oh, and I've corrected your little spelling error there ;)

Glory Hunter, hahaha. I've been going to Rangers games since I was 5 years old and had a season ticket since I was 9. If I was only in it for the glory I'd have subscribed to SKY.

But the wee provincial clubs fans like to call us Glory hunters cause their teams never amount to fuck all.

Football "fans" like you are the reason why non-old firm teams are "wee provincial" outfits. If 90% of the football going public in Scotland didn't buy into the religious tribalism that Rangers & Celtic peddle neither of you lot would have any more fans than either Hearts or Hibs.

In my book people like you are even worse than Sky Sports subscribers, as you not only buy into the nonsense, but you give decent fans of the Old Firm a bad name with your ridiculous antics and language.

You're a knuckledragger Chaka, plain & simple. That's why you're always a prime target for the likes of Soapy in this thread.

A prime target haha. I couldn't give a fuck what any of you think of me. I support Rangers, I go to games and I sing songs. Sue me.

I subscribe to Sky Sports, yet I still manage to make it to Pittodrie every other week. Therefor, fuck the lot of yous!

Don't your parents pay for your Sky? :p

Technically, no, we split it. I pay for the HD subscription and the multiroom and I bought them their HD box. Erm... plus it's covered in my board!
