Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 9, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 9, 2012 Luke Wright in 'not totally useless' shocker:-  http://www.espncricinfo.com/big-bash-leagu...tch/524935.html  Worth noting that Owais Shah has been scoring runs for fun down there, too. The Curious Orange
Bresnan's out of the Pakistan series now, it would've been interesting to see if they'd have gone with him or Broad if both were fit. The only real selection issue now is Finn or Tremlett - but I think with him not playing much recently and having an eye problem means Finn will probably start the series when they'd normally pick Tremlett most times. Even more so because they both can bat.
The Curious Orange
Anderson's first pick of the bowlers - and I think they'd both play ahead of Finn, when it comes to Tremlett though they've got a tough choice to make as he's been at Ambrose levels of unplayable at times over the past year - they could drop Morgan to fit them all in but I think they prefer the security of playing 6 batsmen and Prior at 7. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 9, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 9, 2012 Yeah, they're not going to deviate from 4 bowlers, even if they decided to put Panesar in for 2 spinners. They like this format and they won't budge from it. Personally, I think out in Asia on those pitches you really should be considering 5 bowlers but with Bresnan dropping out and them losing one of their bowling all-rounders, they definitely won't deviate from 4 bowlers now. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 13, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Remember a few months ago when India were the 'best' test team in the world? Not now, they're not:-  http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-v-in...ory/549179.html  Warner's twatted them. Paid Members Burchill's Buddy Posted January 13, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2012 Christ, 104 off 80 balls after bowling them out for 161. Incredible.

I watched all the morning sessions of the first two tests (fuck you Perth and your 2.30am starts) and they just looked beaten before they even took the field most of the time. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 13, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2012 India are a bit fucked, really. Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman all on the verge of retirement. Sehwag and Zaheer Khan will go not long after that. Harbhajan is going downhill and hasn't really stepped up since Kumble retired. Their bowling attack is completely toothless. Â Do they care that much, though, with the IPL around these days? I suspect not.
The Curious Orange
Ojha must be worth a go for them - came in for 4 games at Surrey, took a heap of wickets and got them promoted last season  The main effect of the IPL is there's now no incentive for players to go overseas for a season of county cricket etc. and work on their game to suit different pitches. They'll still do fine at home where conditions favour them but if they go behind in series overseas quickly it'll turn into a write off again. Harvey Dent
Shocking England batting display in both innings, just looked totally unable to read conditions and bowlers. Some truly shocking shots as well. I do think it's a massive advantage for Pakistan to play all their cricket there though. They're used to it now and any visiting team can't really set up decent warm ups against good club opposition because there simply isn't any there. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 19, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2012 Over in Asia. Pathetic shambles against spin bowling. Inadequate bowling attack for the conditions. Â THIS is the England I know and love! Â Seriously though, the batting was truly terrible. There is nothing in this pitch. Ajmal's a really good bowler but he's not turned much and he really only has the one variety delivery, the doosra, a delivery that Graham Thorpe used to play quite easily just by playing right back and playing it off the pitch. Â We will do really well to get a 1-1 draw from this series now.
The Curious Orange
Just a heads up that BBC4 are showing Fire In Babylon tonight at 10pm - which is a documentary film about the West Indies team of the 70s/80s and has pretty good reviews. Â As for England, they've picked up a bit since the test series - Bopara's hit a couple of 50s in the one day games so he could well come in for Morgan in the Sri Lanka tests - to be honest I'm not sure either are long term bets, I'd prefer them to look at Hildreth or James Taylor at some point. Â Finn has also been excellent coming into the side so when England go back to 3 quick bowlers at home I think it will be him alongside Anderson and Broad, with Bresnan 12th man and Tremlett seemingly back to being injury prone. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2012 Yeah, this tour has gone completely the opposite of how I expected - a twatting in the ODIs and winning the tests was what I was expecting. Â Morgan's been absolutely horrible. No idea where this idea has come from that he's a specialist player of spin. He looks worse against it than Robin Smith.
