  1. Lie to Me

as noted before it stars Tim Roth as a guy that can read Microexpressions and tell what emotions people are feeling.

Its not the best program in the world, feels alot like CSI to me, but it does keep me entertained for 40 minutes.

Theres also alot of `good` information about peoples expressions and what they mean, say he mentions sadness, explains what to look out for in the expressions on peoples faces and body language, then shows a couple of quick pics or clips of famous people who have shown these expressions, thats kinda cool.

I`m halfway through season 1 and although the supporting cast are kinda low on the interest side theres a few seeds planted which keep me watching.

And I just found out its been picked up by a network so I suspect we`ll be seeing alot more of this in the future.

Worthy of a look but I suspect unless season 2/3 kicks things up a notch it wont be keeping casual viewers coming back.

  2. http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/predators/trailer

predators. Actually looks fucking awesome. Arnie unfortunately will not be in it, nor Karl Weathers or Jesse Ventura or even aa little Bill Duke, but Fishburne is and thats alright by me. Cant wait to watch this

Well being as Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura and Bill Dukes characters all died in the first film hardly a surprise is it? With Arnie now being the Governator these days, he was highly unlikely to do it either. I'm slightly more interested in this now Robert Rodriguez is involved, but still on the basis of the last couple of films I'm not holding my breath.

I heard it was a prequal?

  3. The Spy Next Door

I will appologise in advance for typing in caps lock mode but i feel that saying about this movie has to be shouted.

    *ahem*

    THIS FILM IS FUCKING SHITE!

WELL THE 35 MINUTES I SEEN BEFORE I LEFT THE THEATRE WAS TRUELY AWFUL. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED AND IT LOOKS LIKE NOTHING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. IT STINKS. JACKIE CHAN LOOKS VERY OLD, THE STUNTS HE WAS PERFORMING WERE WIRE WORKED. IT HAS BILLY RAY CYRUS, YES THATS MILEY CIRUS`S DAD IN THE MOVIE AS HIS SIDEKICK AND THE EVIL OVERLORD BAD GUY IS,

    SPORTICUS

YES, THAT GUY FROM LAZY TOWN IS THE MAIN BADDIE. THERES SOME PLOT ABOUT BACTERIA AND OIL BUT MAINLY I COULDN`T GIVE A RATS ASS. THE ACTING ISNT REALLY ACTING JUST DELIVERY LINES AS IF YOU HAVE JUST READ THEM FROM THE SCRIPT BEFORE SOME GUY SHOUTED ACTION.

HOW THIS IS PASSED AS ENTERTAINMENT I DO NOT KNOW BUT ITS TRUELY AWFUL. WHY SHOW A 1 MINUTE INTRO OF CHANS OLDER BETTER WORK AT THE START OF THE MOVIE THEN DROP THIS TURD I`LL NEVER KNOW.

sorry about that but this film has to somehow be destroyed. I`m so glad we didnt pay for this film (we sneaked in after watching Kick Ass) because if I had paid

  4. Kick Ass

    Are you male?

Have you ever read a comic?

If you answered `Yes` to either of these questions then get your ass down to the local cinema and purchase a ticket to this movie. Then just sit back and enjoy what will probably be the best 2 hours of your life this month you will have while being seated in a cinema.

    This movie seriously is excellent.

Watch the trailer, then imagine not only the 2 minute trailer being the best bits, but the other 118 of the movie just as much fun.

Laugh out loud fun, awsome action scenes and enough gore to keep an Eli Roth fan happy.

In all seriousness i`m sure theres a whole heap of plot holes, flaws and rips to give this movie, but I didnt look for nor care about anything other than the excellent fun I had watching this movie.

  5. Very well put.

I may have posted this before but I highly recommend watching this video by a very down to earth bloke.

John Harris - 'It's an illusion' talk at the Stoke 'Lawful Rebellion' Conference

only watched about half of it this morning

some very interesting points but you try explaining to a police officer that he actually works for a business as hes smashing you in the face with a riot shield!

ah roll on 2012, at least then it`ll not matter when society collapses!

  6. Saw The People vs Larry Flynt off Bravo, not seen it before, it's bloody wicked!

It's a good biopic about pornography, civil rights, freedom, liberty and sticking it to the man!

Haven`t seen it in a while but I do recall it being excellent, not even good, but excellent. Harrilson puts in a good shift and the girl that plays his wife does a grand job.

    An excellent feel good movie.

  7. Hachiko: A Dogs Story

Ok its 92 minutes of Richard Gere and a Dog

I could stop there and that would pretty much sum up the entire film. Nothing happens. The sountrack seems to give an eerie presence as if something is about to happen. The Cast all seem to have a look about them as if they`re about to do something sinister. Its a strange film where nothing really happens.

Yet at the heart of it lives a hope, a warm place, a story that sees past the nothingness and centers on a comfort that draws you right in giving you something you never expected to be there.

Its basically about the relationship between a guy and his dog. How the dog interacts within his life and how when things dont balance out in shows a hope that people care.

I certainly wouldn`t recommend this as a night out for the lads, infact if you even mentioned to the guys you`ve seen this film you`ll probably get a kicking. But if your wanting to show that someone special in your life that you have a sensative side, definently head for this movie. Take some tissues and you`ll score even more points.

But just remember, its ok for grown men to cry at this film, Its about a guy and his dog, master and companion and thats a very manly thing after all!

  8. ^ This! I watched Stardust yesterday for the 1st time, other than some pacing issues and the bolded twat above, it was a very good film reminded me of The Princess Bride, in tone, humour and story line, The film score was a joy to behold and it was beautifully shot. The other downsides were that it went on to long, and there was lots of needless exposition.

    Stardust is an axcellent film.

DeNero plays a good part, even dexter fletcher couldn`t put me off this movie (anyone who seen Games Master first time around will know what i`m talking about!)

But yea, Gervais was only in it for name sake alone! Ass

  9. PontyPool

This is a Canadian Horror Movie. I decided to give it a go after reading a review about it in my local newspaper.

Shock Jock radio presenter starts a new job in a local radio station after being fired from his last job. He comes into the local radio station all guns blazing trying to stir things up when all his producer wants him to do is report on the weather and school closures. When he links to the `eye in the sky` reporter he discovers that theres some sort of riot happening. As reports come in it transpires that its some sort of zombie infection and the town goes into lock down.

Now I grew up on the twilight zone, cheap ass tv series that hooked you with the scifi/horror story rather than the big budget. This film does exactly the same. Theres only really 3 cast members and 1 set (the radio station) apart from that theres little else in this movie. The story is a little weird and `out there` when you start to discover how the virus travels and how it works, but its probably the best B movie i`ve seen.

The 3 main cast are excellent, their chemistry works well together and the acting flows well enough that with the character development you want to know more about them. Theres a good amount of black humour in the movie as well as a few dead end plots which were deliberetly placed in there.

If your a sci-fi or psychological horror fan then you have to see this movie. It works well on all levels.

It may seem like a dark and depressing movie but the final message made me smile and put a spring in my step.

  10. District 9

Eventually got round to watching this one last night

Wanna know more about it? check out the search function below and type in `District` all the previous reviews are right about this film

i could go into detail but I aint gonna waste your time like this film wasted mine.

    Avoid.

  11. The Crazies

went last night to see this movie. Its the run of the mill `small town american sheriff notices his towns folk start acting strange, then they go crazy and people get killed. The Military turn up to solve the problem and it looks like hell may just break out` movie that doesnt seem to start.

The problem I have with the movie is that it doesnt seem to go anywhere new. We`ve seen it all before with zombie films, end of world breakdown movies, theres nothing new here that took me and hooked me in.

Its an entertaining enough movie, theres a good deal of gun shooting and `crazy` folk, military teams running around, explosions, end of world dread and a few (well 2) jumpy bits but they just dont seem to melt together to make that something that allows us to care what happens next.

The main cast are dreadful, the sheriff is the guy that played `Hitman` in the film based on the game, and plays the same character (no emotion, no connectivity), his wife is one minute being all girly and pregnant and the next smashing folk in the face!

On a plus side though, theres an scene near the end of the movie where 2 folk are standing and you see explosion in the background and I was really impressed with the imagery, you could see that it was just cool looking. I liked that part.

the other parts are not so good.

If you want to see the movie i`d recommend a rental for it. Certainly not worth forking out any more than

  12. Yeah, Poundland and CEX are both goldmines. Last purchase from Poundland was a documentary called "Tractors of Yesteryear". The person who bought this made the classic mistake of buying something soul-crushingly boring and bad but without any real comedic potential. It proved unwatchable as you'd expect.

Theres unwatchable then theres pure suicidal!

Poundland, as mentioned, is a pure gold mine if you know what to look for.

I recommend Live Feed (a Hostel rip off), but avoid Vampires vs Zombies (I didnt make it past the first 10 minutes, not bad just god awful and apparently the vampires never actually fight the zombies) and Zombie Chronicles ( a 3d movie shot not using 3d technology, so its pretty pointless, plus the storylines are not even entertaining, so much so i watched it in fast forward)

I do have the the double DVD box of `the trial of the Incredible Hulk` and `The Incredible Hulk returns` just waiting to be watched (and yes I did get this from Poundland!)

  13. Ninja Terminator .......

We've also seen The Ninja Squad, Golden Ninja Warrior, Ninja Fist of Fire amongst others.

Our shit film fests have now become Facebook events with 8-12 guests attending, which is nice. Last night we watched Sworn to Justice.......

    Next week we're watching NIGHTMASTER,....

all available at your local Poundland if anyone is interested!

think i`ll check these out (mostly in fast forward i`m suspecting!)

  14. Dead Snow

Ok so I`m a little late knowing that the debate about this was a good few pages ago but i`ll chip in my take on it.

Quick recap, its a german horror film about Zombie Nazis

Theres some great set ups, some great deaths and some excellent undead nazis.

Theres some awful set ups, some awful deaths and some excellent undead nazis.

The problem the film has is that although the concept is pretty basic (but more than enough for a film of this calibur) the deaths are pretty good in some areas

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

especially anything to do with the snow mobile

    [close spoiler]

");document.close(); and the imagery is so awsome, especially becuse it uses nazi zombies in snow, during the day! the comedy aspects are too stupid and distract so much from the atmosphere it looses its way alot.

The makers obviously had a good time making the film, they`re obviously big horror fans and they know a few things about set ups and jumps but they seem to not know how to keep a plot rolling along, how to pace a film or how to balance out comedy to horror ratio.

After alls ended and the credits roll there is a slight satisfaction that you`ve seen a good foreign movie, but theres just a little taste of disappointment knowing that it could have been done better especially with just a little more script development and possibly some input from hollywood.

Certainly worth a watch if your wanting to see a film thats almost great but not quite.

  15. Percy Jackson & the Lightning thief

Another of these `Kids have special powers` movies this one rather than using mutant powers or superhero stuff goes for Greek Demi-God powers which, with the imagery and heritage of the Greek gods, is quite a good twist.

Percy Jackson discovers hes the child of a Greek God as he gets accused of stealing the Lightning rod of Zeus. He gets taken to a special camp where all the kids of Gods and Demi-Gods get trained in how to use and control their powers. Hades appears and explains that if Percy doesn`t give him the rod then he`ll Hades will kill Percy`s mother, so Percy decides to set out on a quest to speak to Hades and explain that he is not the thief.

Now the confusion I have is that the film is almost great. The use of Greek gods combined with the Harry Potter element(lets cast kids and use them for the entire series of films) is more appealing to me than the harry potter series is. But the film isn`t too engrossing. The special effects are good in some areas, the hydra and monotaur are well worth seeing, but the medusa is terrible, absolutely terrible. Hades himself is a strange cast (dont look up who plays hades because the reveal is worth the suprise) but it seems to work on a `thats cool` level.

Its worth seeing in the cinema, especially for the monsters and fight scenes but i`m hoping that the second film has a much more solid storyline and manages to go past the interest stage and actually hook me into the plot.

  16. Astro Boy

I went to see this film last night. I had no expectations or care for this film and i only went as my daughter wanted to see it.

I`m so glad i didnt miss this film. It was great!

The animation is spot on, theres no major flaw and the intro hooked me straight away. The storyline is actually quite heavy going, theres alot of violence and actually death involved which i wasn`t expecting for a kids movie. The plot is about the president of the city trying to gain another session in office by trying to create a war and having the technical warfare to win it. Astro Boy has the power pack to maintain the ultimate weapon and the president wants it. Start the chase scene. Add in a heavy plot of family values, orphans, social acceptance, social exclusions, political undertone/overtones and a heap of violence you would think this would be more suited for an animi style movie.

Then chuck in a whole host of comedy spots, which at one point had myself and my daughter buckled over in complete hilarity (due mainly to the RRF :) ) the balance is excellent.

The only downside is the voice actors. Some are completely wooden, Cage is very cold (although that may be part of the character) and Bill Nighly is terrible.

But this is certainly worth a cinema visit. The chase and fight scenes are worthy of the big screen and the DVD will be getting bought, another watch just for the RRF.

  17. Domino

Kiera Knightly and Mickey Rourke star in this Bounty Hunter film based on the real life experiences of Domino, a rich kid who decides she wants to be more than a spoiled kid and live on the dangerious side of life.

The film begins as Domino is being questioned by a FBI agent (Lucy Liu) about a missing 10million dollars highjacked from a security van. Now this is supposed to be based on the true life events of the character Domino, but i suspect theres quite a bit of artistic licence. the next 2 hours is pretty much a blur, not because of all the action, rough cuts , spinning camera angles, dodgy special effects, weird plot twists, confussing character inclusions, dark dessert backgrounds, weird psychodelic priests, gun fights, lap dances, gangsta rappers, vegas bombings or helecopter chases but because theres too much plot and backstories!

Theres the bounty hunter group themselfs, a harder version of Dog packing an amazing amount of firepower. Then theres the bail bond guy and his group of inside informants, then theres the FBI, then the gangsters, then the other gangsters, oh and theres some hillbillys, and the WB executive and the TV presenters, and Dominos family cant forget about them and the 4 young guys that are quite crucial to the plot, not the sub plot, but the main plot.

Theres just too much plotting going on here. Sure the action and set ups are quite good but you`ll spend most of your time trying to remember whos who and what they`re doing there than realising the action is quite gritty and enjoyable. Each character has a back story which is mentioned, so before you know it theres 30 characters all with plots and stories and why they`re doing the things they`re doing and why they`re essential to the main plot and then we`re confussed.

Plus its based on the real life character of Domino dont you know.

Its worth a watch, but expect to be somewhat confussed by it all.

  18. but Gremlins 1 & 2 are my favourite movies of all time, I cant get enough of the little green bastards, so Im half worried and half excited about a 3rd movie, I just hope they can persuade Joe Dante to step behind the camera for it again, plus bring back the Anamatronic puppets.

I remember a while back that there was a gremlins 3 script/movie made but it was so god awful it was scrapped. any more info on that?

  19. stole from the youtube thread

I stole this from the youtube thread, as its a 70 minute documentery i decided to post it here

Its a deconstruction of why `star wars episode 1` is god awful

now you may think `i`m not watching a 70 minute documentary on why episode 1 was crap cause i know this already!` but the way this documentary is put together is great. the guy doing it adds his own humour and background funnies and it works real well. I enjoyed his slating of the movie but he also educated myself on the aspects of why it was so shit, the stuff i just couldn`t be bothered to work out myself.

He also adds in little comedy set ups and one liners that actually had me laughing.

If your a star wars fan and have a spare 70 minutes, its most definently worth watching.

  20. Bird with the Crystal Plumage

This is THE classic Giallo (murder mystery film) from director Dario Argento.

Argento can be praised (or Blamed) for the first major success of the Horror/suspence film (think SAW but from the 70`s with slightly less gore and alot more emphasis on suspence and tension) .

A writer witnesses a murder in an art gallery. The murderer traps the writer and he is forced to watch the woman struggle until the police can free him. He then sets out to solve the brutal murders which he has now been a witness to.

For a film that is now 40 years old you would think would be past its time. How wrong you would be. Argento has been praised as the `Hitchcock of the horror/suspence`and this directorial debut proves without a shadow of a doubt that gore and shocks have absolutely nothing on suspence and atmosphere. I was engrossed from the first 2 minutes. The imagery and brightness of the artmuseum as the woman is struggling and the sheer desperation of the witness as he realises theres nothing he can do but watch her die is amazing. Follow that up as we follow the writer as he pieces together the clues and tries to work out exactly whats happening.

Of course the fun of these film is trying to piece together the clues ourselfs and seeing if we`re correct in our assumption. (I wasn`t!)

An excellent film for the more decerning suspence fan.

  21. Orphan

A family adopt and Orphan. Bad things start to happen. Is it all a coincidence or is this Orphan an evil demon child?

This is a very strange and interesting outing. Nothing seems to happen for the first 30 minutes of the film then, bang, death! Then nothing seems to happen for another 30 minutes then all hell seems to burst loose. The last 30 minutes is a cool joyride and theres some excellent images that`ll stay.

Its not a scary movie although theres some use of the mirror opened, then closed style of jumpiness suspense. The gore is pretty good, although there isnt loads of it. Theres some really strange use of characters and set ups, like the daughters deaf (although good didnt seem to have anything to really do with the film) and a few sub plots and back stories that they use but unlike most american films they only hint and give some info, they dont go into graphic detail about it (which means you got to piece the backstories together yourself). The story ticks along well, although there are patches of what seems like nothingness. And an amazingly abrupt ending.

The Orphan herself is an excellent character and is very memorable. A few scenes of uncomfortableness if you have kids of your own.

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

The fact they kill off main characters is amazing and definently shocks as this stuff doesnt happen in mainstream movies. I knew there was a plot twist at the end so i was looking out for one, I had a few in my mind as the film went on but the actual twist itself I had thought of as she was having a hissy fit in the toilet but I thought it was too much outthere so dismissed it (i thought she would have been the daughter of a psycho family and been taught all the killing and stuff by them)

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

I liked the film on a dark gothic level and when the last 20 minutes kicked off then all bets are off and anything is possible.

Certaionly worth a look if your into the `SAW` `Amitiville Horror` `Psycho` psychological style of plot.

  22. Law Abiding Citizen

A father (that guy from 300) see`s his wife and daughter murdered. During the court case his lawyer (jamie foxx) says that theres not enough evidence to convict the guys but that one of the guys is willing to grass the other in for a plee bargain. The lawyer accepts, so one guy goes to death row the other is let out after 5 years. The fathers pissed. Blames it on the system and takes revenge by blowing up and killing all the folk that were involved in the case but tells the lawyer that if he can get him off with the murders (cause theres no hard evidence he actually done it) then he`ll stop.

It sounds over complicated and in a way it is.

The film struggles to work out what it wants to be. Is it a thriller? yes it is, the scenes between Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx are actually quite good. Theres a stress level you can see between the characters that makes you wanna know how they`re going to play each other. Is it an action film? yes it is, theres enough gun fire, explosions and fight scenes to keep things bright and firery. Is it gruesome? yes it is, in a `SAW` style the blood is dark and the murder scenes are very dirty.

So what is it? Its too much of everything. As plots go its not excellent, the gore seems to be placed in just for shock value and the plot curve balls are way out there. Its worth a watch but I wouldn`t go out your way to see it. Rent it.
