  1. Trailer.

A superhero film we can all agree with, I feel. Starring the lad from Malcolm in the Middle as the hero, with DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE as the lead bad guy with half his face burnt off and with a supporting cast of Roddy Piper, Adam West and Stan Lee. Sounds like the big blockbuster of 2012.

This looks awful, truely, truely awful!

  2. http://forum.davidicke.com/

    Enjoy.

2037 users currently online. Fucking hell.

Not one to delve too deep but theres some scary ass shit on that forum.

    http://forum.davidicke.com/showthread.php?...6&page=3405

seems someone likes to just randomly link things together for absolutely no real reason but being a complete nutter, seriously!

The first page that came up for 777 was Boeing 777

So, I wondering now is there a link to what I posted yesteday about the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

    Mount Popa

Popa sounds a bit like Pope and also Poppy.

There seems to be something about today because that Dreamliner is coming to Chaing Mai Today, so I'm told.

If these people want to be taken seriously then this probably isnt the correct way to go anout it

  3. Chronicle

3 High school guys (1 guy is a high school popular, 1 guy is average, 1 guy is an emotional wreck) go investigate a hole while at a party (!) and they end up with telekenetic powers.

Using the `found footage` style of film making, it manages to jigsaw the documented adventure together for a before, during and after the events of these 3 guys.

I didnt know anything about this film, except for the trailer, before I went to see this film. Its a strange feeling film and at only around 85 minutes its quick. The first half feels like any found footage film, monolouged and alot of single person shots, then it adds in another camera for a couple of shots then during the last segment uses (in my opinion) some great use of multi camera stuff, a very nice twist to the found footage style.

the whole film just felt like a build up to the fight scene. the emotional breakdown of the main character isnt fully exploited or covered in my opinion and the lack of an emotional anchor for him meant you knew he wouldn`t be saved (perhaps the inclusion of a school councillor as a go to point that knew his family position would have given the emotional hero he didnt use).

The use of the mobiles and ipads for the stand off was well done but was lacking the rawness of badly shot footage.

The fight scene itself was excellent in my opinion. in any action film would have well recieved and i suspect that the director will go on to direct some sort of action film.

Overall I didnt like it though. it just felt that although it was `found footage` the shots were too professional to give any graininess to them. It was a teenage boys film aimed at teenage boys (my 14 year old daughter didnt like it). Plus it all seemed like one big set up purely for the last 15 minutes of the film.

It looks like this is the first major film for the director and I know we`ll be seeing his work again in the future, the last 15 minutes are worth the watch but the first hour or so doesnt seem to give anything worthy.

on a side note or two:

I`ve been reading more reviews elsewhere and alot of folk are shouting `AKIRA` but since I havent watched Akira in about 10 years i`ll not pass comment.

and the main character just looked far too much like skywalker from empire in my opinion!

  4. HitMan

Based on the Game series it sees Agent 47 an orphan trained by a mystery organisation as an assassin take on interpol and the Russian police force trying to solve the reason he was set up.

I`ve seen it before and thought I`d give it another go. In retrospect i enjoyed the movie but watching it last night I realised its certainly a retrospect movie.

The aspects of the film are good (obviously showing why the games are so popular). A genetically enhanced killer whos sole purpose is to kill, nothing else. No personal life, no emotions, no freedom. The imagery is great, the use of russian locations and european locations are well used. The darkness and wetness of locations gives a true impression of what i consider the eastern european feel. The Characters are well indepth, it gives a great deal of insight into the character of Agent 47, the woman he needs to fill the gaps, the interpol police as chasers, the russian police as brutal robots, the mysterious Organisation in control and the other bad guys pulling the strings. Theres plenty there but thats where I feel it looses alot of its charm. Its got far too much in it. Theres too much going on. Who is who? who`s the bad guy? Why are they doing things the way they`re doing things? there just seems an excessive amount to take in and the movie suffers a little for it.

Dont get me wrong it is a very enjoyable movie but the overuse of things combined with the confussion of certain aspects made me, even with a second viewing, still scratching my head.

Reading the wikipage shows the sequal is in post production. If the direction is sorted out (some of the action scenes seemed uncordinated and very jerky), the story trimmed and tightened, I believe the sequal may be an emense movie but HitMan is just a little too much substance.

  5. Is that the one where he goes through space unharmed just by holding his breath?

That might be the sequel, which I havent seen, but takes place in a space prison!

and i`m under the impression its fine to go through space by holding your breath as long as you breathe OUT first. Then theres no air to expand and blow you up.

I seen that in a film.

  6. Fortress

I recieved this from the UKFF Secret Santa and since I recall it being quite good from watching it years ago I would give it another go.

    Synopsis (stolen from IMDB):

`In a futuristic USA, it's forbidden to give birth to more than one child for each woman. As usual, you can escape to Mexico to avoid the authorities in USA, which is exactly what John (Christopher Lambert) and Karen Brennick were trying to do when Karen is pregnant with her second child (their first child was born dead). When they think they have made it they are discovered and put to prison (for 31 years), a modern prison called the "Fortress" where the prisoners are controlled by lasers, neutron-cannons, cameras, mind-scanners and electronic pain-causing devices in their stomachs. With those odds, John still plans to escape with his wife.`

In a phrase it is classic 90`s B-SciFi movie. Theres robots, computers, big corporations, limited budget, flame throwers, people blowing up and Christopher Lambert.

If your a fan of sci-fi gritty films (Robocop, Highlander) then you`ll probably like this move.

  7. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Ethan Hunt must stop bad guy.

This film is getting some great coverage, both by the public and reviewers so I decided to go watch it even though I never did see part 3. I can honestly say i was quite bored. Its a step by step action film, absolutely nothing new. It brings some very intersting gadgets and gizmos a plenty but the plot and running of the film is the exact same as every other action film you`ve ever seen. Bad guy steals something, good guys need it back or world will end, good guys get upper hand, bad guys get on top, use exotic backdrops for chases, final fight, end of days.

The characters are similar again to other action teams, bad guys are cliched, this film brings absolutely nothing new to the table.

Perhaps I`ve just seen too many of these films now, perhaps it was the non-digital cinema i watched it in, perhaps i`m just not a fan of big budget action films

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

perhaps its the fact i know main characters wont die and bad guys will be beaten and nuclear war wont happen or the over the top stupid stunts

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

but i didnt get into the film

For 2 hours of popcorn munching stupidity then i suppose its worth the

  8. Cynthia Rothrock was in NRNS 2. That fact alone makes it not shitty.

    Cynthia Rothrock!

What a lovely lass! I had a pure fancy for her in my teens. My local video store used to order me her films and it got to a point where i had seen every film she was in

China O`Brian sticks in my head as being good and some film about an alien and kids being not so good.

remembering her scorpion kick makes me smile!

  9. nightbreedgame1.JPG

Came on here to mention this game as well. Cant actually remember if it was any good though.............

When my dad took me to the shop to get a new computer I was given the choice of an Amiga or an Atari ST I didnt want the Amiga because it came bundled with Nightbreed and the picture scared the shit out of me. Luckily I was outvoted and we got the Amig. I ended up playing it and there was a level when you had to out run a guy in a graveyard. He'd catch me every time and bite fuck out of my neck :(

    NightBreed was impossible!

I remember decker throwing knifes at you in a first person mode where all you had to do was keep circling the mouse to beat that level but once I got to the catacombs I never got past them. What seemed to be a maze of randomness with the flying fish now and again, then once I got to a platform level and didnt make the jumps so fell back down and away I went around the maze again! Never got past that level. And believe me, I tried!

But bringing it back on topic I`m a big fan of the film. Theres currently 2 cuts of the film kicking around. The dvd release and the original Video release that has, I think, about 14 minutes of additional footage (over the dvd release).

Apparently theres like a 2 and a half hour cut of the film thats being stored in a studio vault somewhere that features alot more original stop motion footage and loads of sub plots and character development but theres no money to release it so the studio wont release the negative.

Barker really wants it released but the bigger studios want the remake of hellraiser done but again, as far as I remember they made a terrible sequel just to keep the rights. So Clive wont make a penny from the remake.

  10. We Need to talk about Kevin

A mother tries to come to terms with the fact her boy killed a bunch of people.

This is getting really great reviews so the misses wanted to see it (and she doesnt want to see much) so we went on saturday night to see it.

This is certainly a strange film. on one hand you have what can only be described as some of the most drawn in acting I`ve seen. So much so that I actually wanted to beat the shit out of an 8 year old kid. I found the acting of everyone involved, especially the Kids that play Kevin, to be the best I`ve seen. Without a doubt a milestone in child acting. On the other hand the bordering on Arthouse style of direction killed it, or made it depending on how you see it.

I can only guess that the direction and look was intended from the get go, the difficult to follow time jumps and the constant redness of the shots pissed me off, but I dont know if that is a direct emphasis placed there to make you feel uncomfortable or just mistakenly overused by the director.

It is a difficult film to sit through without feeling something, uncomfortableness, passion, hatred, empathy, deliberate or unintentional it worked. I can only imagine what a family going through this situation would feel like but the film gave a pinch in 110minutes what these familys must be feeling 24 hours a day.

Its worth a watch but only the once. I dont see myself rewatching it on special edition 2 disc dvd but I`m glad I got to see it. It may not be great viewing as an enjoyment but the discussion I had in work with others who have seen it opened it up to a whole other level.

  11. What does everyone think of Insidious? I just watched a scene from it on Youtube and I'm too scared to go to bed now.

Insidious is a film of 2 halfs, first half is good, second half is good. Put both together and you have a truely awful film.

Its almost like 2 films put together, both work for many different reasons, just not together!

  12. My daughter and i have a movie night on a thursday where we sit and watch the films i used to watch when I was around her age (14)

I got around to telling her about freddie krueger and jason Voorhees and we watched a few of the deaths on youtube

funny thing is when you take these killings out of context they`re pretty shite.

So once I can be bothered we`ll watch the entire nightmare & friday series followed by the excellent freddie vs jason to finish.

I certainly dont mind currupting her fraggile mind with 80s and 90s crap (most have certainly dated and knowing the full extent of censorship back then compared to now i really wonder what all the fuss was about!) but i certainly wouldn`t allow her to watch some of the heavier stuff (saw, hostel or any other gore film) thats kicking around now.

  13. I think if you try and compare it to a modern movie it's going to look like a sack of crap but that was always part of its appeal to me, the nasty production, the unknown actors. It can't compete on the gore stakes with things like Saw or Hostel biut that was never really the point.

I think I`ve mentioned it before somewhere but i`ll repeat the sentiment.

`Video Nastys` or the `banned` films of yesteryear have to be viewed on a 3rd generation video tape. The film itself is not important, it was the excitement, the law breaking and the fuzzy picture that made the experience of watching a film 10x better than any digital 3d pish you get these days.

  14. Watched The Frighteners for the first time ages the other night.

Other than some of the CGI being a bit ropey 15 years on, especially the carpet stuff. Its still a pretty decent film all round. Nice premise, mixing horror and comedy and flows well.

I tried watching the directors cut of this a week or so ago with my daughter.

Unfortunently its difficult to watch the first time as nothing really happens for the first 45 minutes or so and although I knew it was a damn fine film she was pretty bored and gave up after 35 minutes (even with my pleads to keep watching!)

But yes give it a shot, as stated it has dated due to CGI but the plot is pretty sick once you get into it.

  15. Went and saw Warrior last Sunday. Planning on going again a few more times. Such an amazing film. the end was really emotional. Outside the fight scenes the story in general was great. Finally an MMA film done properly

This will do to MMA what the Wrestler did to Wrestling.

It`ll allow the people who dont understand the combat aspect to see from the inside how it works. How it may be brutal and yes, fighting in a cage, but theres a reason it happens, a story behind every fighter.

its certainly worthy of a watch, even take the gf along, she`ll enjoy it too.

  16. Repo Men was sub par but had a cracking ending, plus Forest Whitaker is always great.

Repo Men was a strange affair. It should have been good but something just didnt click, and yes its one of those `cool` endings

It was through a search for this film I came across Repo: the genetic opera which has now become a top film for me

  17. Why would anyone want any kind of version of Alien vs Predator? A definitive version of that, for me, would be for the DVD to violently eject itself and propel it into your skull for being stupid enough to buy it in the first place.

We all know that this was terrible, well not terrible, just a complete waste of a franchise that we`ve all waited years for.

The question would be Why you would want AVP:Requiem in any version? (although I do own 2 versions of Requiem purely for the completeness factor and both cuts add nothing to the shittness! nothing could save this film)
