Man, that was amazing to watch. And you know what was even better? The commentary team doing all they can to downplay Edwards. Especially Rogan and DC.
Joe - "This isn't how Leon would want to finish the fight."
"Yeah, but he's winning the fight though?"
"Oh yeah, he's winning the fight, but this isn't how he'd want to win the fight."
Then by the middle of round 5, we were getting the whole "Yeah, he's beating Colby, but he won't be able to do that against Belal/Shavkat."
It's simple. Colby "didn't look like himself" because he couldn't deal with the speed and skill of Edwards. Edwards dealt with the takedown, negated the cardio-machine, and even took the smug fucker right down himself.
I'm sure we'll hear how the next challenger is the man to topple Leon.
-
Anyone else get the feeling that Leon is going to chin Covington and put him away? I don't know why I do, but that's the feeling I have.

I'm still surprised Paddy is on this card to be honest. I assumed the UFC had him pegged as a "UK attraction" much like Molly McCann. Stick him on the UK card twice per year against someone he should beat, and he gets the crowd all amped up and seems like a big deal.
Then he can fuck off and get fat in between fights.

Covington has backed himself into a corner with this shitty gimmick he's running with. It's terrible and always has been. He's just not the guy to be doing it. It's obvious that all the shit he says is pre-scripted and he comes in with these "bits" planned and rehearsed.
Some guys are just naturally arseholes. Some guys are really good at being smug twats. I'm thinking of the scale we see that runs from McG to the likes of Chael. Covington belongs nowhere near those guys.
I keep saying it, but I met the guy in person in Vegas before an event, quite a few times. When the cameras and shit weren't there, and there wasn't much of a crowd he was as pleasant as you could imagine. He was even quite funny with some of his banter with fans (which was actually off the cuff and still quite smug, but in a funny way), but he has a persona that he thinks he needs to portray to shift tickets and make money.
I'm not saying he isn't a Republican voter or a Trump fan. He's clearly a typical Cali-style high school jock from a well-to-do family, but there are tons of guys like him in the MMA world.
I dunno, his gimmick isn't a good fit. He isn't reading the room correctly when he says what he says.
He could easily be the smug All-American type who can wrestle for days and have a solid career without throwing in all this other shit.

And whilst obviously it would be hilarious and tragic if the same shit happens in WWE as it did in AEW, I’d rather it didn’t.
Oh, I think we all know that isn't true at all.

What do twats like that have to gain from doing that? They must have a lot of spare fucking time on their hands.

This is a good breakdown of his salary, is this some elaborate way to get around a salary cap by only getting 2 of his 70 mil a year.
He's supposedly deferring much of his salary so that the team still has a lot of salary to build a team around him. He knows that he won't win anything if he's sucking up all the capital on his own.
The deferred amount is reportedly interest-free as well.

Glad he went there and not the Blue Jays.
So am I, actually. He's not what we need. I'd rather we spent some money on filling other positions instead of a glorified DH and someone who may, or may not, return to pitching at the level he did previously.

Yeah I'm not seeing a finish either way in that main event. It's not either man's thing.
Famous last words!

So now we're ragging on the guy for things we think he might do?!
It seems so.
Some people in this thread long ago stopped talking about Punk, and have started discussing some imaginary caricature version of the guy that they've dreamed up in their heads.

I know it’s mad, as he’s a fully grown middle aged man; but it’s like we’re watching someone grow out of their teenage rebellion phase in real time.
Or someone who always thought the grass could be greener outside WWE, only to realise that isn't always the case, and now he's happy to back. His stint in AEW could actually be the best thing to happen to him.

Horrible flashbacks to Rangers fans during the Michael Beale era for a second there. Felt myself blacking out.
I'll attribute you even daring to mention Beale in the same sentence as the Scotch Pep to you taking a bit of a turn.

Whilst not exactly a managerial masterclass he was definitely outsmarted.
Look, this was always going to happen. Change doesn't happen overnight and it will take at least two windows before he gets his squad. The first 11 is good. The squad is poor. When you are bringing on Bryan Gil and Oliver Skipp (sorry Skippy mate, COYSCOYSCOYS and all that but please fulfill your destiny move to Bournemouth that we all know will happen one day) to affect a game, well that's just not 'top of the table' quality is it?
And I liked how he came out afterwards and combatted the "Well it was nice football in the first half" with this.
He's absolutely bang on.
West Ham were so well organised in the second half, and deserved the win, that our only outlet was Porro putting in crosses. OK, to who? Richardson? Great. Good one.
What was alarming was our lack of thought when West Ham were so compact and drilled in the middle, and our profligacy in front of goal in the 1st half, same against Villa (although there were more chances in that game) We just look blunt very often.
Kulusevski, has been good this season in a more central/free role, but my god is he one footed. If he's on the right and you show him outside, he is the easiest player in the world to defend against. I know all players favour a foot but it is mad how we keep buying these incredibly left footed players (him, Lamela, Gil, Lo Celso) who just cannot use their right. They don't even try.
So roll on January and godspeed to James Maddison. Take some drugs or something mate, speed up the healing.
So to my initial sentence. This was always going to happen. We need to hold our nerve with this and give him the means to compete. If we don't, I can't be arsed anymore.
For all I laugh at Arsenal, they stuck with legohead after two relatively poor finishes, backed him and now look. Arteta is an absolute nobhead, but he's got Arsenal right up there now, and there has to be credit given to the upper management of that club.
It's almost as if this Spurs team is missing a world class striker who could put these chances away. Can't quite put my finger on who that could be. Still, apparently there is a good striker in Munich. Maybe he's worth a look?

OK lads, I've had a rethink...
Maybe next year?
Ange was outdone by a 2nd half managerial masterclass. Ol' Moysie went in at half time and made the adjustments needed. That's probably the one thing about Ange that isn't gonna sit well with fans eventually. He doesn't really have a plan B.

Keith goes a bit easier on Ric Flair because he knows what it's like to be an old man who's only got his catch phrases left.
He certainly can't do any of the "flippy shit" he did in his younger days, when the likes of Oggy and Gary Bannister were lording it up down Highfield Road.

Villa have come a long way from the piss-boring side we were absolutely begging to be relegated season after season.
The switch from "slip & slide" Gerrard to a real manager has worked wonders it seems.

I'm undoubtedly in the minority, but I'm happy to see Flair back in some capacity as we close in on Sting's final match. The history between the two, it would be pretty cool to see them both officially call it a day together at the Greensboro Coliseum.
I know Sting will likely stick to the retirement, and it would be fitting if Flair finally packs it in and calls it a day at the same time.

I can't really imagine a situation where someone can go around lamping their co-workers and causing every problem under the sun at one employer, and then turn into a model employee (sorry, independent contractor) at the next, particularly when they've seemingly been allowed to walk into a big money deal at the second employer without ever really having had to account for their actions at the last one, but wrestling isn't the real world and stranger things have happened.
It depends, I guess. It could be that WWE has entered into this agreement safe in the knowledge that a lower to mid-card nobody wouldn't be allowed to go on live television at a PPV and throw an insult at one of their top talents, thus creating the situation where said lamping is required.
Will Punk see himself in a situation similar to those that caused the flashpoints in AEW? I doubt it.
I'm a fan of AEW. It's basically the only wrestling I watch on the reg, but Tony Khan is weak as piss. He isn't a leader, and he certainly can't reign in a bunch of testosterone-fuelled dudes who act like they're frat boys. Punk will be well happy to be out of that situation, and if anything his time at AEW has shown him how professional it actually is in WWE.
I'd be surprised if he steps out of line any time soon.

Just imagine what that Spurs side will be like when Ange gets a few transfer windows to get players he actually wants. The Aussie Klopp indeed.

So this is basically going to come down to Perry's toughness versus Alvarez technical ability. Ordinarily, I'd give the edge to the more skilled fighter, but in this environment, I think some of these fighters get so far along and take a few shots then think "nah, fuck this."
Well...

Chad Mendes isn't Mike Perry. He's basically the perfect athlete for this kind of thing.
