  1. ATTN: people who may -anytime in the future- may ask what Dixon can do to avoid False Advertising rants/complainta about no-shows:

Even if it means quickly knocking up another flier on your 10-yr-old brother's copy of Word, legging it to a photocopier and then running like a blue-arsed fly to everywhere you've posted/advertised (Or even placing a massive A1 poster saying "Last night Thunder defeated Robbie Brookside for the title. TONIGHT Robbie will try to win it BACK!" outside the arena), it's still better than waiting until the people have paid their money, sat down and can do feck all about it.

    =THEORY.

And back to UCW: that 250 house was drawn on the strength of a Bra and Panties match between some jailbait. When the council decreed they couldn't run the bra and panties match, they IMMEDIATELY wrote on a big sheet of paper that the match wouldn't have the Bra and Panties stip, and put it outside the hall, so that people could make their choice on whether to attend or not. That is worth a HUGE amount of kudos, and is why I'm not going to be super-critical of them despite them having about three good regular workers and completely awful booking. Yes.

    = IMPLEMENTATION.Theory + Implementation = RESULT.
  2. AmDrag, in particular, was advertised on being at Bristol at least twice on his FIRST tour, yet did not show.As we discussed at the time, Dragon was billed just the once at Bristol and his arrival was delayed. He was advertised on a poster (against P N) and was scheduled to arrive but when it was confirmed he wouldn't be here for the show, he wasn't advertaised in the press ads I recall. You and Moj went on that he was billed twice and started believing it yourselves it seems. It shows that you guys don't pay attention, and certainly not to detail, as much as you claim. Oh yeah, and Doug Williams even turned up on that show and wasn't billed on the poster or in the press. You can't get any better addition than that!Sylk Wagner Brown & April Hunter. Their pictures were seen on at least 1 Bristol poster, but they never showed when they were on tourSlyk and April have never been announced as appearing at Bristol, although their picture appears on a number of general posters. The only local (to you and I) shows they have been announced as appearing on are Swindon and Gloucester earlier in the year and they appeared on both. It's also well known why P N wasn't at the Bristol show. Legit 'no shows' which you are going to get more often from a promotion that puts on so many shows, than one that puts on just a handful of shows. Simple maths, although I know from the crowd size estimates you come out with isn't one of your strongest points. It's called "making a mistake". I've now admitted that twice in this thread, and you have nothing to say for either instance. That's having low character. And, yet again, they only announced that AmDrag would not show AFTER THE FANS PAID UP AND GOT IN THE DOOR. I have to highlight this to you because it's VERY important- Many people travel to shows on the basis of one wrestler (many don't, but several others do), and if they were informed BEFORE they paid for their tickets, then they would still have a choice as to whether or not they'd still go. The fact that Dixon's announcements frequently (read: not always, but most of the time) happen after the fans can't do anything about it means either he is lazy or crooked ("you've paid up so take what you're given"). The website announcements only come *after* the first poor sods who pay money to see certain wrestlers (and this has happened more than once) sit through whatever they consider to be extra to what they came to see, without getting what they came to see. It IS that easy to understand. As for Slyk and April, I KNOW they were never billed on a Bristol card. That's why I DIDN'T SAY they were. I said they were advertised on a particular poster. Being billed for a show and being advertised on a show's poster are 2 different things. And as far as "generic" postering goes, Dixon is now moving away from that, as they currently have 2 different posters, billing 2 different events and 2 different cards, on the All-Star homepage at the moment- one for Bristol tomorrow night, one for Croydon in the new year. As for PN no-showing, what WAS the reason for his no-show? it certainly wasn't announced to the people who paid to see him at the time, THE PEOPLE WHO MATTER THE MOST. Yet again, for every good piece of informed news ASW posts (or otherwhise tries to make available) some poor lot of people have to suffer first hand. It's almost NEVER done with sufficient warning, and that is one major beef many have with All-Star, me & Moj included. And by the way, what press ads do you read, and what papers are they in? I'd be VERY interested to see what adverts ASW get - especially considering the arena change.
  3. The thing that people get so annoyed about, is that you and a couple of others slag off All Star for things (that in most cases I don't really see as a problem whether All Star, FWA or whoever do it but it upsets you) and then others can prove that the FWA and others do exactly the same but you tend to not mention it or are not upset about it when that happens - think it's called being two faced.

As I have already mentioned in an earlier post that you have made no reference to, YES, other companies have been guilty of All Star-level incompetence. What you fail to grasp is that All-Star:*is guilty of these offences FAR MORE FREQUENTLY than any other fed in the country, and*is also in the position to do something about it, but does not.The reason that me & Moj pick on All-Star is that they keep on making the same mistakes over and over again (read: negligent handling/attempted handling of situations, often controllable). When they STOP doing so, we'll be more inclined to look at the positive aspects which you have alluded to.And another thing, All-Star has indeed had some great matches featuring top talents from around the world. The problem is that not all of them attend every single show on a particular tour (NOT a particular week as they would be understandably knackered- they are human beings after all). AmDrag, in particular, was advertised on being at Bristol at least twice on his FIRST tour, yet did not show. Can't fault him for that, but what you have to realise is that if they don't eventually get round everywhere, many fans won't know who they are. And barring All-Star's forum (population: single figures) doing as many of the shows as possible is the only way to get recognised. That's the way wrestling was around the world before TV even touched it, and it's the way for every federation in the country that has no TV show (read: 95%)Another Example: Sylk Wagner Brown & April Hunter. Their pictures were seen on at least 1 Bristol poster, but they never showed when they were on tour. The rule is "Don't get around, Don't expect recognition." It's sad and inane, but it's true.(EDIT: Any aspersions about the effectiveness of the All Star forum for other people to talk about ASW should be cast aside by the fact that, not counting the Forum Rules, the bottom topic on page 1 was pasted over 6 MONTHS before the top topic.)
  4. I dare say that Dixon could do a better job on the Bristol City Council.

    So. Many. Punchlines.
[takes a seat, slurps on some coke and folds his arms]In your own time. ;) :DEDIT: ASSA, if you could do me a favour and fish out the place you got that quote of me. Fer the life of me I can remember saying that, but I don't know *when*. And take the "cancel shows" and "four-month breaks" bits out of your last sentence and you've pretty much summed up All-Star's predicament- attendances are falling but Dixon is apparently (read: from what I can see so I may be wrong) not too concerned at the moment.)And Bagga pretty much hit the nail on the head with his solution.
  5. You can harass me for being picky about the little details, but the little details MATTER to people who pay money and expect a certain match after weeks of anticipation. Dixon is *extremely* lazy and shoddy with keeping the fans up to the news.

What amuses me is that you and Moj can pick holes in All Star shows but you can do the same to any promotion if you feel the need. Anything levelled at All Star can be levelled at most other promotions. It amazes me that in your words you are "picky about small details" when you are often wrong abou small details yourself. Doug Williams Vrs Rob Brookside was never billed for the last Bristol show, it was the Brookside Vrs P N, so when you feel that small detail is so important and don't even know the details yourself (a bit like saying Pete Collins has never retired before) it shows that these details you are so picky about matter not. All Star put on a good show month after month and that's what a good wrestling fan wants. As for moving to a new venue - read the local press Seph. The council say wrestling isn't a part of the entertainment they want at the Colston Hall and the lack of support the venue has given wrestling by not putting up publicity material, not including it on venue publicity suggests that they have tried to kill off wrestling at the venue over the past couple of years. That together with ticket prices being put up and the apparent down period in wrestling at the moment explains why 200 to 300 fans turn up at the Colston Hall now as opposed to double that in the recent past. Still that's a very good figure for a wrestling venue to get each month and despite what you say, the FWA get a similar figure at there Broxbourne shows these days. It's very sad that wrestling is ending at the Colston Hall. It was the first place I saw live wrestling and have been a regular since an early age. The standard of wrestling has always been high and even now, with no support from the venue, it outdraws most shows in this country. The fans are loyal and passionate and having travelled to a lot of UK venues, the Colston Hall has one of the great crowd atmospheres with people really into the action.
OK, I got Robbie's original opponent wrong. Blow me. THE POINT IS:1. They advertised one particular title match. FACT.2. They phantomed it at least 24hr before it was supposed to happen.(for "phantomed", read "had a title change without the fans who are MEANT TO KNOW about it knowing about it.") FACT.3. They did not make any effort to let people know of the title change until AFTER they had paid their money to get in. FACT.4. They did not even kayfabe a reason why a wrestler hither-to-the-change wasn't even PART OF THE TITLE PICTURE obtained a title shot and won the title. Nitpicking about continuity aside, FACT.5. They did not hype the sudden inexplicable change of the MOST IMPORTANT TITLE IN THE COMPANY in any way. FACT. Therefore it was a foregone conclusion that the deposed champion would regain it that night. LOGICAL THINKING.6. From the phantom switch nobody got put over apart from Robbie Brookside. The 'upstart' Thunder, who -by my own admission- has improved immensely since the last time I saw him, gets no rub whatsoever by his flirtation with the MOST IMPORTANT TITLE IN THE COMPANY. FACT, and also a crime the WWE has commited (read: Chris Jericho, WWF Undisputed Champion Dec 2001-Mar 2002)7. The possible (read: may not be, but can be) reason for the phantom switch, Avalanche's babyface status, is nonsensical because it is possible to play Ave as a heel (read: UK vs USA matches. Something of a regular ASW occurence.) FACT.8. The same criteria of flaws that I have stated can be levelled at other promotions, FACT as you have proven. All Star, however, seems to commit these errors more than any other promotion regardless of public profile, capability and . FACT. All Star makes less effort to stop these errors happening, or simply makes less effort to inform their fans that these things *can* happen. FACT, by Dixon's own admission regarding the Alex Shane/Nikita debacle - he was aware that they would not show and just could not be bothered to change the posters.9. If what I say about Dixon's laziness and shoddiness is true, then when we attend the final Colston Show in about 42hrs time, we shall recieve no announcement, no flyers or no posters directing fans as to -take note- HOW TO GET TO THE WHITCHURCH SPORTS HALL. Not "where is it happening", HOW TO GET THERE. Which is what I, myself, asked Dixon at the start of the previous Colston show- "Could you let everyone know how to get to the Sports Hall?". Not "Where is it?", but "How can I get there" is the question to ask. And if Dixon does not answer every person who asks, not only does he prove hisslackness but he also stands the risk of losing what fans in Bristol he still has.10. You may be right about the Council not wanting wrestling at the Hall anymore. As a matter of goddamn fact I am willing to say that you ARE right. Why? Bristol City council has, in recent years:*offered a complete monopoly of the city's bus services to Firstbus who have since privatized what little competition was left, and sent the overall quality of the service into a downward spiral. The bus service was, earlier this year, officially voted the worst in the country, and the people who use it pay twice (or in some cases, more than) expected to do so.*destroyed the beautiful greenery on the centre and replaced it with some rather grotesque fountains & sculptures, which are apparent on the way to the Hall*is considering building a 30,000-seater football/sports stadium WELL outside the City limits and wants to transfer both the city's football teams (who to say are not exactly friendly would be a strong contender for Understatement Of The Year) there, who on their strongest regular-season-days cannot even APPROACH 30,000 COMBINED.*have committed several crimes against its own people that I do not know about, nor am I willing to find out right now.Bleak picture nonetheless, I dare say that Dixon could do a better job on the Bristol City Council. But I digress.--------------------I'd certainly say points 3 to 8 add up to "shoddy and lazy", don't you? Now...Have I committed a crime by doing one of the things I have criticised ASW of doing? YES, but name one person who has never -even accidentally- been a hypocrite. Whether you include yourself in your answer is irrelevant. And for the record, I fucking well hope I am wrong about point #9. Seriously.EDIT: and fivestar flash, if you don't care to enlighten us on what we are "supposed" to know by your insinuation, do the gentlemanly thing and butt out. Here we actually try to JUSTIFY our assertions.
  6. This one's probably best aimed at sephjnr..Is there an "official" reason why they won't be promoting wrestling at the Colston Hall again, by that I mean who had made the decision, is it Bristol City Council as a result of the Colston's upcoming renovations, or is it the decision of All Star?

I haven't the faintest idea  I've heard nothing from the Council *yet*, so fer the moment assume it's down to Dixon.
  7. Has it ever occurred to you that there may be other reasons for advertised wrestlers not being there sometimes? I know from running shows myself that the lineup you start with in your head quite rarely becomes the lineup you end up running with on the night. This can be for a number of reasons, including injuries, other commitments, and so forth. Admittedly, some false advertising does go on sometimes. Even then though, it's not always intentional - some promotions print a massive run of posters for shows way in advance of them and, between the time of the poster run and the show, things change.

sorry to barge in, but it has to be said that while it's completely understandable that things happen to make the card change, Dixon waits until the last possible moment to inform people. That last moment being when they pay their money and get in the door. It's very difficult to quickly knock out a new run of posters to distribute, granted, but Brian doesn't even bother to change anything on the posters, even if the wrestlers pull out with plenty of notice to do so. Take last month for example- it was supposed to be Doug v Robbie
  8. Well there's the Jody/Jonny ladder match which was pretty damn good, but I WON'T go into detail about a certain event during that match (Moj and Adder know about it, and that's that  )For me it would have to be when the Power Rangers finally beat the Superflies for the Tag Team Titles around 7 years ago in a ladder match- the Flies were shit-hot, and no matter what the Rangers did they couldn't beat the cheats... until the ladder match.

  9. Sephjnr: I just happened to see this thread and comments made by people that I agree with, so I said as much. Not that I really feel the need to justify myself to a cretin like you. Incidentally, for a 'smart' net fan to accuse me of acting like a parrot is about as rich as Bill Gates!Just about every thread that gets posted about All-Star has some sort of smart-arsed comment in by this NewportMoj person, and it's always the same thing again and again. If you think the All-Star product is that bad, then why keep going?

I said you acted like a demented parrot simply because you DIDN'T justify your opinion, and both me & Moj have justfied ours. Time and again. Nothing wrong with having an opinion as long as you can back it up. If you choose not to justify it, the only person who looks stupid is *you*, and not the person you're attacking. And if you want to know why Moj keeps going to All-Star? You'd have to ask him that, but make sure you don't insult him again without good reason. I realise you're a wrestler and not just a "smart fan", so to protect your fragile ego I won't call you a demented parrot again.
  10. Translation:I'll slag off anything on this forum that has something to do with All Star Promotions 'cause I'm a sad git.  Can't appreciate any wrestling in this country unless Alex Shane tells me it's good.  Please list all of Marty Jones' "several million" retirement matches.  He's never retired or mentioned it until now.  Once again you don't know what you're talking about Moj.

Agreed. What a complete and utter dickhead! And I'm NOT just saying that because someone else justified my opinion for me so I don't have to so I can prattle on like a retarded parrot.
Agreed! Whizzkid, you do know that Moj has been to several of these shows, right? He's watched them sat by me for some time now, and he can see the good in anything that's put before his eyes. And he does try to buy into it.The problem is that what's bad about the matches completely overshadows the good. And what's bad?well....* the completely unnecessary stallfests at the start of EVERY bout.* nobody who is under the age of 40, or is not a moderate-profile Brit worker, is capable of grasping the crowd's attention with every move. Or indeed, is capable of working the stick or doing anything in character apart from some hackneyed Heel-ing and the odd sell-job.* certain groups of fans CANNOT buy into things that aren't blatantly obvious. These groups, sadly, make up a LARGE proportion of Dixon's audience.* there's 0 fan service- nothing to keep them interested in the wrestlers before the start bell and after the end bell. After they leave the arena and go home, THAT'S IT. Finito. See you next month. NOT exactly a good thing for All-Star.That enough, or do YOU WANT MORE ©?
  11. /me would like to wager there being no publicity on this until an hour before the last show starts, on the regional news- and nothing at all since. Sad, but believable. I've also heard rumour from one person that the run in the Fairfield Halls in Croydon is on its last legs too, probably for the same reason.Could Dixon's wrestling equivalent of Ice Cream be turning sour with the people at last?EDIT: Oh look. Over at bigtimewrestlinguk.com, they've made a Christmas animation for the front page. Whoever had the simple foresight to do that ought to be made head booker immediately.

  12. A little help here people, my pics are destined for life in photoshop if noone tells me.

find a decent free webhost that allows remote image linking (such as Virtual Avenue), then sign up for a free account. Then upload your pictures, then post them here. Simple.EDIT: Since this thread started, Virtualave no longer do free hosting accounts. So fuck 'em.
  13. How do you guys get the original text to go away without losing the background? Some of yours has just gone over it but the yellow to orange to blue bit beneath it stayed the same, I don't know how to do that on PSP.. :(

you can't really lose the text without wiping the background off. Firstly wipe the text away, then use the dropper on the background colour, and airbrush it back in changing it as you go. It looks scruffy, so use the paint tool (on 1pt setting) to tidy it up. It's bloody hard to do that, but for an amateur (no offence) it's the only real way.
