Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Bit of an odd one, as i hadent seen the first (although like a few people my age, are big fans due to the various cartoon series when i was younger), but my nan randomly bought this for my girlfriend for christmas, and although id heard the first one was rather bad.........the idea of a film with the silver surfer and of course Galactus(!) just made me need to watch it, no matter how bad and or good it was.

So i checked it out, and a few little bits a side (mainly steming from me not seeing the first one) it was...........ok. Not terrible, not amazing by a long shot, but entertaining to a certain degree, and that what i want from a movie, to entertain me. Basic story is the surfer turns up to prepare the planet for dinner time, the fantastic 4 are having a bit of trouble with this, as well as Dr Doom turns up and ruines the whole thing! In the end you get a rough sort of idea of whats going on with the surfer, (it does help if you are a fan though), and otherwise you get the smallest glimpse of GALACTUS (!) himself, although not as in a giant bloke, but although his, "Shape" in storm clouds......but it was still ok though.

Again a few little bits that got me, thing looked a bit "Plastic".....Invisible women looking like she hada terrible wig on...a few mild swear words,(like crap or piss, i mean it doesnt bother me, but i just presumed this was aimed more towards kids for some reason), but bar a few things like that it also had: Silver Surfer (~!), GALACTUS (~!), Fanatasic fours crazy jet thing (~!), Dr Doom (~!) , Various superpower jokes (~!) and a stan lee cameo in which he plays himself (~!). So all in all, id imagine its maybe not worth seekign out unless your some sort of fan of the Fantastic 4. But i was entertained, and i think that'll do for me!

A good family-ish movie, something i think might turn up on channel 5 on a sunday afternoon. Again, good, entertaining and i liked it.

Right guys. A couple of questions.

 

Q1. How did Slaughter get from absolutely hated Iraqi sympathizing heel to patriotic babyface again? How did they manage that? What was the angle that set that up?

I always thought that after he lost to Hogan at WM7 he said he was sorry and asked "for his country back!", Although i seem to remeber he was still heel come summerslam........so i may of made that up.

KOW's reign doesn't even come close to Aries/Strong

In terms of length its beaten it, as for defences both Aries/Strong and the Briscoes are tied at 18 defences was it? I believe the kings have around 8ish do they? So current longest reigning champs are the kings, but can they beat the all time defence record?

 

 

I was referring to the quality of matches. They had 3-4 great bouts with the Briscoes, some fun matches with Matt Sydal and various partners and also against various Dragon Gate guys. Their match in Liverpool v The Briscoes is still the greatest Tag match in ROH history.In my opinion KOW have only made one truly great defence of the title, against the Briscoes at DBD, the rest were average to okay plus I haven't seen the Wolves match from Plymouth yet (which I hear is great).

 

Here's hoping the ANX dethrone the Kings!

Very true sir, i was also there for ROH in liverpool, and that match was indeed "sick" as they say. For me Aries and strong were a great team, although it was more about them beign a team....if that makes any sense. For example you have various tag teams, but with them it was Austin Aries and Roderick Strong , (2 fairly bigish ROH names at that point), in a tag team......i hope that makes as much sense as i think it does.

Either way, i loved them as a team, and think if they ever got back together as a face team in the future itd be awesome! As far as the kings go, ive like them as a team, but didnt theyu win the belts the first match they had back as a team? In which case thats nearly a bit "WWE" in regards to giving tag teams the belts straight away isnt it?

I always thought Matt sydal and most partners were awesome teams, he team with daniels won the titles, but i always thought his team with AJ would of been the better team. ROH do have a cracking tag division, although its a shame various people are in TNA/WWE at the moment as the bucks could of been a great champion team in ROH as well as the Guns!

From October/ November they were playing with his music and changing it to different styles of "My time" I think he also tried a more instrumental version of "The Game" at some early point untill he settled on his current theme

As i was reading your post i remebered at some point he swithed back to my time, as well as a slightly different version of this (the one from the WM2000 game if you had that) at various points when he was singles, so god knows what was going on with that!

How long has Triple H used his "The Game" By Motorhead theme for?

Around 11 long long years IIRC

 

Checking back chronologically through the ppvs, he was still using the "My Time" theme right up to Armageddon in December 2000.

 

He used the Motorhead song at No Way Out in February 2001, complete with the little graphic in the bottom promoting the "WWF: The Music - Volume 5" album.

 

But as I can't find the Royal Rumble 2001 dvd I can't narrow it down any further.

Also an interesting note was when trying to get some decent music sorted, he was asked "what would you like it to sound like?" he asked "id like a hard rocking, motorhead style sort of sound". To which they replied, "we could just ask motorhead i suppose?".

And the rest, they say, is history!

Tommy is a "Rock Opera", written by The Who and originally released as an album in 1969, and then later made into the movie. On the album, all the songs are performed by The Who.

Its the most F'ed up thing ive seen in a little while. Everybody who is in it, is great....everybody acts/sings really well.......but the way its done was just very.......60's? Full of crazy trippee drugness.

So i watched:

For those who hadent seen this, im nearly sure it is some sort of 60's/70's musical produced by various people, but from the looks of it.......mostly the who.

The general story (and i mean from what i could pick up) is that a child loses his father during the war, as he gets shot down. The child is born after this, but her mum moves on and gets a new fella (oliver reed). This guys dad turns up and see his wfie in bed with oliver reed, reed goes mental and kills the formally missing RAF'er. The kid (now about 4) sees this, but his mum + step dad convince him that he didnt see/hear or think he knew anything about what happend. As a result......he goes blind/deaf and dumb. (At this point id like to mention if a 4 year old suddenly went blind , deaf and dumb after 4 years of being perfectly fine.......id be worried).

We then go on to see him as a grown man, (now played by the whos front man), with his mother trying to heal him in some sort of church (although its devoted to maralyn munroe). This goes on and on, and includes cameos from elton john, tina turner and jack nicholson. That as well as the rest of the who.

So imagine that story i just to you, on acid. Lots and lots of acid. And thats tommy for you.

for me, it was worth a watch, not the best thing ive ever seen......but i couldnt help but watch with all the famous people in it.

6/10. Give it a miss if your not into 70's acid musicals.

Ok, a question the active wrestlers should be able to answer here. Are ring ropes actually made with bona fide rope? It just seems to me that if real ropes were used, there would be no real give in them to spring off when running at them. The ropes used in the WWE appear to me to seem to look like faux-ropes with their shape, possibly with a plastic/rubber compound? I recall someone mentioning that the ropes used in the original ECW were "cable ropes" - I'm going to take a guess that this used twisted steel fibres or something similar coated in plastic or another shiny material? Finally, is the rope supplied in one piece or does it be fixed together when the ring is being set up? In the WWE it looks like the ropes have a very obvious connection where the two ends of the rope meet, but I don't see this much elsewhere.

You can get both. Some are just tight rope, and you can get steel cable ropes.....which aparently are easiser to perform moves from. I have wrestled in both, and unless they are stupidly slack i dont think its very noticable.

From what i understand, WWE use steel cable ropes with a thin plastic covering. Many "ropes" are the old school tight rope versions, with some sort of hose-pipe covering on them. Again unless the tight rope style ones are slack, you wouldnt really notice the difference.

Have ROH Dropped the Pick 6? If so thats a bit random as they made such a big deal of it last year. I only ask as mark/jay briscoe is getting a shot at the title.......yet he wasnt in the pick 6 was he?

 

Also if they kept this up, it would of been good for a tag team pick 6 considering the tag team division beign how it is. Also Also, WGTT in ROH? awesome! Saw they did a few shows last year, but full time-ish? cool!

 

 

I believe it has been dropped, might have been announced on their newswires plus the change of booker may have prompted it.

Didnt a previous stip say cabana would never get a world title shot in chicago after he lost to austin aries?

Yeah I think his promo's are good but his in-ring skills/wrestling isn't up to par for him to be a major player in ROH just yet for me.

But he's definitely in a group alongside Brandon Gatson, Ryan Taylor & Orion Bishop that have the potential to be big indy wrestling names...

 

Also am I the only person who doesnt get why Chris Hero isnt the ROH world champ or at least a major contender for the title???

I thought with the likes of Desmond Wolf and Tyler Black leaving he would of been the natural heir to the throne

I think its because he was looking good for a title run last year or so, but he didnt quite get to "That" level that other champions had, so they put him back with claudio, who if i remeber rightly was in the same sort of position.

To be hoenst i think this tag team is really helping his get to that level that he needs to be at, and would imagine in the next year or so he'll be up there in the ranks for sure.

Whislt im here, Dexter, What is the fuss about Jon Moxley? I mean really, i just dont get it......he looks like a drug addict to me, and his in ring work doesnt seem as good as people make out. Bar that his promos are ok, but you can base all the hype on just that......can i? The only reason i ask is for a while DGUSA where near on jizzing about him, and he has general notable mentions from various places also, but again i just dont get it.
