  1. I really donā€™t think that wrestling wouldā€™ve been what it was, at least internationally without Vince McMahon. Other promotions have tried but havenā€™t had the same level of popularity as WWE. Even when WCW was Americaā€™s number one promotion for those 83 weeks, they were still seen as very much a US based wrestling promotion with limited TV deals and touring outside the USA. WWE toured more often internationally and generally had the better overseas TV deals, even when they were struggling financially in the 90s. So no, I donā€™t think anyone else wouldā€™ve made wrestling what it was if Vince hadnā€™t.

  2. Iā€™ve not always been Owen Jonesā€™ biggest fan either but he did raise some very good points in this X post (he needs better closed captions though).

Iā€™m expecting Labour to win convincingly at the next election but Iā€™m just not excited about it. Sure, itā€™ll be great to see more Tory wipeout on election night (hopefully) but for what exactly? To hand power over to a party whoā€™ve decided to do the same things? Pro Brexit, anti-nationalisation, pro austerity and pro privatisation? Itā€™s bloody depressing.

Good God. How petty. Iā€™ve actually ordered one. Itā€™s the first footy shirt Iā€™ve bought since around 2010 and itā€™s a fake Chinese replica at a fraction of the price but I actually think itā€™s a very good shirt.

Noticed Owen Jones has withdrawn his Labour Party membership. The reasons he gave (basically carrying on with the same Tory policies) were valid in fairness.

  4. I watch WWE PLEs (never live if theyā€™re in the States) and the occasional AEW PPV. I havenā€™t got the enthusiasm for modern wrestling to be watching all of the weekly TV shows from either company. Iā€™ll watch an occasional episode now and again if something major happens but thatā€™s about it.

  5. Recently read the Wrestling by Simon Garfield. It was a revised edition as the original mustā€™ve been written during the mid nineties. The British wrestling industry was on its arse when the original book was released (still reeling from wrestling being axed from ITV). Wasnā€™t a bad book and I managed to learn a few things that I didnā€™t already know. Not sure I could recommend anyone to go out of their way to get a copy though.

EDIT: Ignore me. I didn't read the dates.Ā

I remembering being at that TNA show where Hogan wrestled his last match. Bully Ray had his Liverpool shirt on and was ripping on United to try and get some cheap heat and it backfired spectacularly.Ā

I was also there. Not sure if that was intentionally Hoganā€™s last match Ā but seeing as Manchester was perhaps TNAā€™s biggest show of the year in terms of gates (I would guess given the capacity), then maybe it was.

  7. Not sure if youā€™d class this as rock (maybe more grunge) but has anyone seen the ticket prices for Pearl Jam with support from Richard Ashcroft? Theyā€™re playing at Tottenhamā€™s Stadium in London and Co-op Live in Manchester. The prices are disgusting. I get that bands donā€™t make the money off CD sales anymore but from the band who fought Ticketmaster for fleecing fans back in the 90s, itā€™s very disappointing. Itā€™s a hard pass from me.

I'd also gently remind people when they're calling people out here that there's a person behind the screen name. Ā People might have stuff going on in their lives, health issues, personal issues, divorces, whatever. Ā If I'm being completely honest, it's one reason I'm not a fan of the UKFF forum awards as we're still voting people the "worst" this or that. Ā It's meant to be in good humour, but it probably stings quite a bit.

This all day long. Iā€™ve read some pretty shitty comments from certain forum members over the years that Iā€™d class as bullying. Some aimed at me, some aimed at others. At the end of the day, weā€™re human beings who deserve to be treated with respect. If a person wouldnā€™t make certain comments to anotherā€™s face, then donā€™t make those comments online either.

  9. Exceeded my expectations. Not many people in my local cinema watching (but then thatā€™s normal - itā€™s a very expensive Odeon). Thought the acting was superb, even if some of the cast members didnā€™t look a lot like the people they were portraying. Thought they covered the story well during a fairly limited amount of time (I agree that an extra hour wouldā€™ve been nice as others pointed out). Overall though, I thought the film was a great watch. Itā€™s up there with the best pro wrestling films Iā€™ve seen. I know that Kevin Von Erich was on a podcast around the time of the US release and seemed very happy with the film which to me speaks volumes.

The lad who "played" John Squire in particular nailed it, but considering he just had to stand there looking at his shoes while he played, maybe I'm being generous.

His name is Tony Scott. He used to be my guitar teacher. Nice bloke and bloody brilliant guitarist.

  11. Noticed that Hasbro have re-released Soundwave and Blaster complete with their cassettes to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Guessing theyā€™re from the original casts. Suppose nothing is more 1980s Transformer than a robot that transforms into a micro cassette recorder.

  12. Troy Beckwith who played Michael Martin in Neighbours as well as one of Pugwallā€™s band mates has passed away. Think he was troubled in recent years (he went missing a few years ago). No word on the cause of death yet.

OK, who had Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season on their football bingo card this year? Now the speculation as to where he is going and who will be the new manager will begin in earnest, unless its already done deals all around.Ā

Xabi Alonso has to be in with a chance. Top of the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and still unbeaten this season. Heā€™s about the only ex Liverpool player I can think of whoā€™s actually doing well in top flight football management right now anyway.

  14. Plus Vince has got to be the richest Carny in history, right?

A lot of us probably wouldnā€™t have seen or cared about American pro wrestling had he not had the ambition to market the WWF internationally. And therefore we wouldnā€™t be on a message forum talking about wrestling. Kind of makes this whole thing seem worse in a way. Like a lot of us only care about pro wrestling because of him. And look what heā€™s been up to. Weā€™re all a bunch of mizarks!

Meltzer noted on WOR today that the archives will also move over to Netflix (outside of the US) beginning in 2025.Ā

He didn't say how much of the archive will be moving, but Netflix will be the sole source of it.Ā

if itā€™s anything like what happened when the Network moved to Peacock in the States, then pretty much the entirety of the archive will move to Netflix. When the archive was migrated to Peacock in 2021, it look about five months for everything to move across.

    So it's chocolate Horlicks?

You could say that but you canā€™t taste the malt as much. It just tastes like a decent hot chocolate to me.

  17. I know that some of you have boycotted Nestle but has anyone else tried Milo? Itā€™s back in the UK (itā€™s mainly popular in the Asian market). Itā€™s a chocolate/malt powder that can be drank with hot water, milk or both. I find that Milo tastes fine with just hot water. For me, itā€™s the best hot chocolate drink available.

Harley Race and Beefcake I must admit I don't know enough about their history for why it would make a Dark Side episode but I guess that's why it'll make an interesting watch.Ā

Without giving too much away, both Harley Race and Brutus Beefcake were involved in separate terrible accidents outside the ring that impacted their lives. Iā€™m guessing there will be a lot of focus on the accidents.

Iā€™d say the fact that blokes are incrementally more enlightened now than 30 years ago and there were virtually no consequences for being an abusive twat, or rogue/playboy as theyā€™d have been labelled back then that it would have been a lot worse back then. Especially at the height of lad culture where tricking women in to having sex with you was the publicly accepted norm as seen through most sitcoms and other forms of mainstream entertainment.

Thatā€™s fair comment. The world is a different place now. I definitely recall Stan Collymore and Gazza being in the tabloids due to beating their partners though. Gazza seems to be largely forgiven and forgotten because people think heā€™s a ā€œgood laughā€ and he was a great player for England. Collymore not so much though.
