Last time I publicly divulged that I watch wrestling was in 2001 in Ms.Lyon's 2nd-year English class. We had to write an essay about our favorite superhero and seeing as I wasn't into that craic at all I substituted Kane for one of those Marvel lads. I wrote a pretty decent essay about the past history of the character of Kane and what he was up to on telly at the time (feuding with HHH for the IC title I think, thankfully this was pre-Katie Vick!)

The first words from Ms.Lyon's after me reading it aloud in front of the entire class was 'you understand it's all fixed don't you? which was very irritating to teenage me. I knew well it was fixed as I was an avid smarky Power Slam reader back then. What annoyed me more was that Ms.Lyon's was obsessed with Harry Potter, with her class filled with posters, figures and lots of other merch as well as her dragging everyone to see the first film instead of LOTR like the class voted for. If she could suspend her disbelief for witches and goblins or whatever, then I should be able to do the same for wrestling without condescension from her.

She defo thought she was a comedian with that "You understand its all fixed don't you?" comment, and fuck, Dragging you to see Harry Potter. Should have been reported to Ofsted for that alone.

  2. For me its the comedians on Facebook pages who will reference Emmerdale and Corrie as a way to shit on wrestling. "Ha ha so is Emmerdale real too then?" Or "Hahaha its just like a soap, its dumb!" I'll never understand why they feel the need to do it, But hey.

I think out of everything thrown around in terms of what to do night 1 the only option that could work is Cody Vs the rock then night 2 Cody Vs Roman

The tag match has so many reasons why it won't or can't work with Seth just getting cleared this close doing two wrestlemania main event style matches back to back feels too high risk for him to get injured again and potentially worse than he's just had.

Roman just isn't doing two huge matches back to back he won't even do two appearances on smackdown back to back let's face it.

Cody really seems to be the only option that's reliable and plausible but it doesn't seem dead set if there going that way I think this weeks raw and smackdown will truly show either way because they won't be leaving it any later and have to promote and build on top with just four/five weeks till mania

Cody's winning, Also Its Mania, Roman can work two shows if he's told to. That is his job.

I sometimes wonder if HHH deliberately made Steiner look shite as revenge for Ric Flair. Which is embarrassing school yard shit but...

He made look Big Bad Bill Goldberg look dumb too. Less said about booker the better. Vince doesn't think wcw is as good as the wwe. It was that simple.

  5. Usually I don't like looking down on wrestling fans but yeah, they can be quite bad. That Bulldogs story is a prime example of wrestling fans having zero social awareness. What the fuck made them think that was an appropriate thing to bring up in public? Christ.

I thought it was really good, and like Devon I think it did really well balancing how to treat wrestling. My wife liked it more than I did, and while she’d read the interview with Kevin in the Guardian earlier that week and knew the true story, she was still so affected by the film she had to go and have a little cry and compose herself afterwards. So it definitely worked for her as a non-fan.

She said it was the scene of Kerry at the end, crossing the river and seeing all his brothers, including Jack Jr, on the other side that broke her.

That scene I left in tears. It's a great movie I'll never watch again. Just too sad.

  7. I think fair play to him, I have no idea why he is suddenly a wrestler, and yeah getting drunk at a indie show is a bit too Scott Hall for comfort, but its all in good fun, I suppose, and he is a grown man.

After last year betraying the feeling of "It's this guys time" ala Batista, Benoit, Austin et al - I mean want Cody to win. But they've created so many variables to make me think they might dangle the carrot, and then replace it with absolute disappointment. Which weirdly has me and most the people I know, even the most lapsed fan engage and have an opinion.

WM every ten years has someone deserving win the big one, So I would be SHOCKED if Cody doesn't win. Mania 10, 20, 30 and.....???

    Here's hoping.

I bet you a million pounds that Rock doesn't get the decisive moment end to Mania.

He'll be next to Cody being bezzie mates, but he won't risk properly upstaging him. Rock's a worker, he'll know he has to tread carefully to stop the Cody fans permanently taking against him.

It'll be handshakes and raised arms all around.

"You're the best", "no, you're the best".

Good point, Didn't think of that, Yeah I can see Rock holding his hand up, and mugging for the camera, subtly making it about him but giving Cody his moment

Completely agree. That's one of the casualties of the network, the damage to the memory of the attitude era, when confronted with a quick rewatch. I never remembered WM2000 had 42 seemingly pointless tag team or multiple person matches. While before rewatching, I would have sworn it was one of the most exciting ppvs of its time.

Its less the tag teams and more the racism, sexism, beating up women and all that lark.

I guess the lame Dad character, saying stuff that used to be cool twenty years ago, works better if it’s all a ruse for Rock to eventually turn on Roman. Supposedly he was staring at Roman when he was saying he was going to “make sure you leave Wrestlemania as the loser.” Cute, if intentional. I just hoped for something a bit more exciting than the greatest hits. Whatever you think of The Bloodline in 2024, Roman is still the coolest man in the company. It felt super jarring having someone so uncool standing next to him as his equal.

Rock and Roman have to show up at Elimination Chamber to challenge Seth and Cody, right? Feels like the Australians are getting massively ripped off if they don’t get a big moment like that. It’s a pretty shit card considering the size of the event.

Logan Paul busting out even more Hangman spots. Adam Page is clearly Logan’s favourite wrestler. Good taste.

Roman may not be advertised to wrestle but a unannounced appearance would be nice for the fans.

It's forgotten with how well they've done since the MCU but Marvel have gone scorched earth with their own stuff so many times because they had lost control of their licences. The films helped the xmen become their biggest franchise and despite them still holding the rights to the merch from the films they refused to release tie ins, because they didn't want fox to have thier small percentage. Same with the Fantastic Four. They are fantastic books written about how many dumb decisions Marvel have made over the years. They were happy to kill off the popularity of their characters, just so they could have them back.

Yeah, always seemed Petty to me. Especially when Fox released DOFP and First Class. To me, those movies rival the MCU's best. Even the time travel worked and wasn't super confusing!

To be fair, they didn't say they bombed financially. They bombed with the critics.

Bombed. Funny word when you think about it.

Yeah, I must be honest, I meant bombed as in the reviews. It made money, All of them did, But bad movies make bank all the time, Until the money stops because people just get fed up with bad movies. Look at Madam Web, it was packed in my showing yesterday, Once the movie reaches "casuals" that packed house will dwindle.

Even moreso when you consider the other big title feud at the time was Seth and Becky vs Corbin and Lacey Evans...

I think this was roughly the same time WWE was doing the weird '2 out of 3 falls' stuff too. WWE was the fucking pits in 2019, I don't think AEW could've picked a better time to come along.

Don't forget the wild card era or whatever that was.

I know you like to just say stuff to be edgy or trolling or whatever, but a very quick google search tells you that’s bollocks. Both the first 2 Fantastic Four films were successful and made almost as much as X-Men and X-2. Whether you liked them or not is another thing entirely.

I mean it's just my opinion. Not trying to be edgy or trolling. They weren't well received. Especially the 2015 one. I'd love to be proven wrong and I'm excited for the new one. Pedro is my favourite actor currently.
