Is this the first time AEW have gone for that WWE trope we all hate where you have to beat the champion to get a chance to beat the champion?Ā

To be fair, Riho was wrongfully eliminated from the champions contender battle royale at All Out (she went through the middle ropes) so this championship match opportunity is really just making good on that.

I suppose it wouldā€™ve made a bit more sense having her go against Hayter, who was responsible for Rihoā€™s ā€œeliminationā€ but otherwise I donā€™t have a problem with it.

  2. The last TNA house show I went to was 2012 (I think?) in Nottingham.

Anyway, these idiots in front of us were all kitted out in Ring of Honour gear and spent almost the entire show heckling anyone who wasnā€™t an RoH alumni and chanting ā€œR-O-Hā€ at anyone who was.

For some reason this thread made me think of them, the pricks.

  3. This might be the bottle of wine speaking but Iā€™m surprised to see so much negativity surrounding the Soho/Bunny match.

I mean, it wasnā€™t particularly memorable, I get it. Still, it was probably Bunnyā€™s best match sinceā€¦ forever? Or at least since joining AEW. Nothing spectacular but solid and I rather enjoyed it, which is more than I can say for most of her stuff šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

LOVED Danielson vs Suzuki, that was just fucking great!

  4. I love Big Bicep Tony. The only way AEW ā€œloseā€ this head to head is if they get absolutely trounced, which I donā€™t see happening.

If AEW win in even a single demographic, they have bragging rights on account of being David in this vs Goliath situation, surely?Ā

It seems like a stupid move in Vinceā€™s part. What exactly will it prove if the biggest wrestling company in the world, with a bigger budget, media presence and a 30 year head start beats the newcomer?Ā
The alternative leaves Vince with egg on his face and for what? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Danielson/Suzuki has been announced for the buy in!

    Absolutely chuffed with thatĀ

Itā€™s one of only two matches on an hour long slot, it could easily go 20+ minutesā€¦

Iā€™m getting pretty excited about this one.

That line MJF did last week about Darby Allin looking like a ā€œschool shooterā€ went right over Dave Meltzerā€™s head.Ā

I'm not normally one to jump to Dave's defense but I legitimately think this is just an example of his weird sense of humour at play.

Genichiro Tenryu was 51 and Keiji Mutoh was approaching 40 (and physically wrecked) when they had a classic in the summer of 2001. It won the Wrestling Observer Match of the Year.

They were taking apron and floor bumps and doing dives and Tenryu even hit a second-rope Frankensteiner. Well worth a watch.Ā

    Ā

    Speaking of Mutohā€¦

Keiji Mutoh vs Go Shiozaki for the GHC Heavyweight Title earlier this year was a cracker, especially considering Mutoh was/is 58 years old!

It really makes me sad to see people talking about The Young Bucks as one of the greatest tag teams of all time, or THE greatest. Each to their own but christ almighty.

I don't even need to see them wrestle to know how great they are. Just look at them.

  9. Nick Jackson and that fucking facial hair.

Sod it. The Young Bucks are the greatest tag team of all time.

    Ā

I could gush about the rest of the show but it's already been said by others in the thread. This was an all time great PPV and AEW are on fire right now!

  10. Iā€™ll never forget the first time I bumped into a fan out in the wild. He was wearing a ā€˜Raw is Warā€™ baseball cap so the obvious ice-breaker was asking him who his favourite wrestlers were and Iā€™ll never forget his response;

ā€œIā€™m a fan of Mark Calaway and Glenn Jacobsā€

    then after a brief pause and in a condescending tone;

ā€but YOU might know them as The Undertaker and Kaneā€

    fucking cringe!

Soā€¦ which of you lot was it?

  11. So is Adam Cole turning up tonight then or what?

    Ā

EDIT: Scratch that, apparently it's taped. Still his contract is up and he's cancelled his Twitch stream for today and removed the WWE Shop link from his Twitter...

  12. 100% Jericho is going over with his spinning back elbow. Heā€™s already given plenty to MJF; getting thrown off the cage and tapping to him relatively clean (albeit in a gimmick match of sorts).

Jericho gets a win back then gets written off tv for a bit.Ā

Who knows when heā€™ll retire, I just hope before then he finds the time to return to NJPW for a match with Suzuki, then he can call it a day.

Brandon Cutler and to a lesser extent QT Marshall have managed to eventually settle into roles where they can offer something, which is great. I would like to see them do that with someone who isn't one of their best mates though.Ā

The fact that Cutler and Nakazawa are only where they are because of nepotism is absolutely PERFECT for their current heel personas, I love it.

Fair play though, QT can fuck off.
