One thing that may protect both MJF and Wardlow is the bell ringing and MJF running like mad from the ring knowing he's going to get his arse kicked. He gets counted out but then on Dynamite he gives it all the 'I didn't need to prove anything to him or to you. You people don't deserve me beating Pig and yeah he can haveĀ  his contract but it's in there that he's NEVER getting a match with me again, unless there's a title on the line' ('or something like that). Wardlow then gets a TNT title shot, buries Scorpio, gets his match with MJF but Wardlow gets to call the shots - no count out, no DQ, no outside interference, etc. He then of course gets his opportunity to absolutely batter MJF, but he batters him so much MJF comes back as a face due to the beating he had put on him.

I'll go back to the beers I think...it sounded good in my head but written down, not so much...

Honestly, I wouldnā€™t mind a quick count out finish provided it leads to Wardlow finally getting his hands on MJF when itā€™s for the world title down the line.

  2. The fantasy booker in me says Punk vs Okada with Okada going over. Then when Punk wins the title down the line, Okada has legitimate claim to a title match and repays the favour.

It wonā€™t hurt Punk in the slightest and having Okada go over arguably their top name is the best possible gesture of good will that AEW could offer.

Regardless, Iā€™m really looking forward to this show. Iā€™ve been tepid on NJPW since the pandemic kicked off, so Iā€™m really hoping this can draw me back in.

  3. I'm not entirely against dangerous stuff in wrestling but it really does need to be kept to a minimum and I especially hate to see these spots done by guys swiftly approaching 50 who already have a near enough maxed out bump card. We all had a giggle at Jericho throwing himself into cardboard boxes but at least he's got his head screwed on as far as his own safety is concerned.

My heart goes out to Otani and his family.

They need him for their Saudi-shows...

He's American, and his dad is from Pakistan.

I think that was the point he was making. He's the right shade of brown, so WWE will trot him out for the Saudi shows regardless of his heritage.

Wasn't that the spot where Alba fucked it up and broke Lita's neck, putting her out for ages?

No because Alba didn't do her own stunts. But yeah, the stunt double fucked it during rehersal and Lita suffered three cracks in her vertebrae.

At one point him vs Buddy Murphy on 205 was the best thing on WWE tv. Hope he does well elsewhere.

He also had a fantastic falls count anywhere match against Hideo Itami / Kenta on 205 that's legit one of my favourite TV matches of the past few years. The finish is one of the smoothest table spots you'll ever see.

I think you basically just have to look at NXT 2.0 as the hunt for John Cena 2.0. That's all Vince wants.

To be fair to NXT, it did give us Charlotte, Sasha, Becky, Bayley and more recently Bianca. Perhaps instead of being obsessed with finding the next John Cena, they could've put more focus on finding the first 'Joan Cena'.

  8. NXT was so engaging because we were all so invested in the development of the talent / characters involved. We knew it was developmental and so watching everyone grow, learn and improve became the main hook. The NXT Title wasn't just another belt but a sign that a character had been through his or her journey and were now ready for the "true prize" of being called up to the main roster. NXT was like a microcosm of the journey that all wrestlers go on throughout their entire careers.

NXT died when getting called up became a death sentance. I could no longer get invested in the journey when I knew the destination was a scrap heap.
