  1. I seem to recall a match with Pat Tanaka that ended with a nasty sitout tombstone on one of the home releases taped (I believe) at MSG which was pretty good.

Of course, the king of "while in the Rockers" Marty singles matches is the one with The Model off Greatest Hits.

Yeah, that was class. Was going to mention that to balance it out somewhat, only Shawn had arguably an even better match on the very same show vs Kato.

What Model match is that on the tape, the Survivor Series 90 build up show?

Sorry, wasn't sure if I was misreading this - if the Marty vs Martel match you are refferring to was from before Survivor 90, the Shawn vs Kato match can't have been the same night (as in the same taping) can it? Kato didn't turn up until early 91, I thought - it was definately Sato & Tanaka at the Survivor Series that year.

Sorry, I was meaning the Shawn/Kato match was the same night as Marty/Tanaka that Air_Raid mentioned. It would've been around the time of Wrestlemania 7.

Ah right, thanks. I was beginning to wonder if there was a whole 3-man Orient Express period I'd completely been oblivious too!

  3. Are there any episodes of Raw, Smackdown or Nitro from the attitude era that don't include someone now dead? I assume there are, but it seems like there's always an Owen Hart, Bulldog, Test, Crash Holly, Rick Rude, Macho Man, Benoit, Eddie, Bossman etc knocking about.

The first one I could see when looking in the results archives is the September 27th 1999 Raw. There's probably others though, some of the later Nitros perhaps.

Here's the card from that Raw anyway: The Big Show defeated Chris Jericho by Disqualification...European Champion, D-Lo Brown, defeated The Lethal Weapon Steve Blackman by Disqualification...World Tag Team Champions, The New Age Outlaws, fought to a No Contest with Kane and X-Pac...Chyna and Debra defeated Jeff Jarrett and Tom Prichard...WWF Champion, Triple H, and The Rock fought to a No Contest.

Ah, the Attitude era - that great bastion of all that is wonderful about pro wrestling, or so people would lead you to believe.

5 matches, one clear finish. And that in a match including 2 women against Jeff Jarrett and a bloke who had been retired for years.

    Awesome.

  4. I'm going to TNA Sacrifice in Orlando next month as I'm on holiday there anyway, but I don't follow TNA at all. Does anyone know of any rumored matches on the card? Any chance of Hogan fighting?

I'd be very surprised to see any kind of Hogan physicality. Unless it's all a HUGE sweve, he's pretty much crippled up at the moment following his surgeries - even to the point he's worn his back brace out to the ring for promos a few times. Considering how closely guarding he is over his image, I'd very much doubt he'd do that unless he really was struggling.

  5. Think this is the best place to ask this.

I will be in the U.S. when Summerlsam is on and am looking to get tickets, just wondering if anyone has been to an event in America can you book them and collect them on the day of the event at all?

Yes, absolutely. Pretty much all WWE tickets are sold through ticketmaster, and you have the option of collection at the "Will Call" window at the venue (in fact, I think this is the ONLY option for international buyers)

  6. Dean Malenko (referee)

Is this correct? Is it supposed to read "agent", or did Dean actually do some refereeing in the early days of WWE's ECW brand? If so, was it only on house shows, because I'm sure as hell I'd have noticed if it happened on TV?

Speaking of guys on that list and refereeing, does anyone know the status of Little Guido with WWE at the moment? I read about him covering the recent MSG house show when most of the referees didn't make it due to snowstorms, but he randomly turned up and did a match on the week before last, and hasn't been seen since.

Was it a one-off under similar circumstances? A trial run on TV? Or has he been signed as a referee, either in a full-time capacity, or as-and-when?

  7. Do yous not think League is miles better than Union though?

Good lord no. Dullest sport on earth. 13 identikit men running into each other over and over again, then wiggling around on the floor for 5 seconds, before backheeling it to another bloke to do the same thing.

  8. Whatever happened to Joey Mercury? Did he get released again?

He's currently recovering from surgery on a torn pec. He's been appointed trainer at FCW in the meantime, not clear if he will remain there once he's recovered though. He's still got a profile on wwe.com, but I can't see what they'd do with him creatively post SES.

  9. It wasn't Taker's boots or jacket

I thought that, but if they're bringing Taker back, no reason to not freshen the old look up. Considering he was a regular evolver for the majority of his career, he's been pretty stagnant look-wise for a good few years.

However, if it IS Sting, it'll be awesome. And Vince must throw as much money as he can at Metallica to get them to come to Mania, and Sting MUST enter to a live version of Seek & Destroy, which is segued straight into from the old Crow gimmick theme, a la the old WCW Mayhem album.

  10. I've often wondered, what people mean when they say about a match (Usually in a review form) 'It was a good TV Macth' even if it's on a PPV. What is the defintion of a 'TV Match'?

I think it's just to put into context how good a match was, compared to how good the reviewed thought it should be if it's on PPV. IE, something you'd be happy enough to watch on Raw, but not overly chuffed about paying to see.

Free TV quality, not PPV quality, in a nutshell.

  11. Im currently watching the Slammy awards from Monday night and when Christian comes out Michael Cole calls him Edge's buddy. When did this start instead of them being "brothers"? If it has been a while I apologise as I've only been dipping in and out of WWE for a good while now but thats the first time I remember hearing it.

They'd definately dropped the 'brother' aspect of the relationship before Christian left for TNA. I definately recall a tag match from that period where they teamed and were referred to as lifelong friends and long-time tag partners on commentary, but not brothers.

  12. Thought this would be the place for this.

Brendan Venter gives a strange interview to Sky Sports after Saracens lose 21-24 to Racing Metro 92 in the Heineken Cup on December 11th 2010

I don't blame him one bit. I'd go fucking nuts if I had to sit through boring boring Saffacens every week.

Oh, and RIP Uncle Tom. Always was a TWR fan.

  13. England game yesterday, I only caught the Highlights on BBC Three, but fuck me... Mike Tindall is terrible isn't he? How's he still around the squad, never mind the starting XV? I know I'll sound hypocritical, as I say that Martyn Williams is still good enough to start in International Rugby, and he's been around a very long time, but I really think that England need to leave the likes of Tindall in the past. He doesn't seem to be defensively as strong as the majority of the modern crash centres, and doesn't break the gainline like he did in his pomp either.

Have to agree Butch. We appear to be making progress, but could definately live without Tindall. I've always fucking hated Steve Thompson, so he can fuck off too.

Marvellous stuff in general yesterday though. Ashton is a fine little player, despite playing for poxy Northampton. Mark Cueto had a stormer on the other wing too, and has the additional benefit of playing for the mighty Sale.

  14. He's been around WWE TV off and on for a year or so (I think he started to show up when they made the referees dual branded, and used him only when he required) but he's recently come back from an injury - he broke his leg pretty badly in an accident (not wrestling related) in January.

Thanks to all who helped with my Wrestlemania query, by the way.

  15. I'm 99% sure I saw something during one of last week's WWE shows to suggest that they were repeating Wrestlemania on one of the Sky Sports channels some time this week, but I can't find it anywhere on the EPG or on the Sky Sports website.

So my questions are a) did I dream it, and b) if not, when is/was it on?

  16. Did the WWE make any on-screen reference to Skip Sheffield's injury? Is he still in Nexus?

It was mentioned, I think by Otunga, as part of a "we need to regroup" segment to explain his absence. I guess whether or not he's still in Nexus will depend on if the angle is still running when he returns. I certainly don't think they've made an explicit "he's out" statement like they did with Tarver & Young.

  17. Quick, if slightly odd question - does anyone know why traditional-style titantron videos appear to be being phased out? First noticed it with Mysterio on Smackdown last week, and again with about 50% of guys on Raw this week - the main tron either showed a logo, or a moving image that fitted in with the rest of the stage.

Quite possible there is no known answer to this, but it equally it is the sort of thing that gets mentioned on some sites - who made the decision, etc.

  18. Think you've got your wires just a little crossed there Baz. Presume you've heard the story that when Roy Bevis started training he was wearing zebra-print gear, and one of the vets called him "The Zebra Kid" after another guy who'd used that gimmick (looking at Wikipedia it appears to have been a name used by lots of guys all over the world down the years) and the name stuck.

I'm presuming the Zebra Kid mentioned on the poster you saw is the guy Roy ended up being named for, but I don't know exactly who it was - the likes of Lister probably will.

AFAIK, Ricky Knight has never used the name "The Zebra Kid."

  19. Odd questions but i've been taking an interest in weekly WWE stuff again recently. Obscure question but other than Barrett has anyone from Nexus spoken when they have been on RAW ?

On a regular basis, there's a definite pecking order. Barrett always gets to speak, then usually Sheffield and Tarver do. Otunga does if he's lucky. The other three are generally mute.

  20. Anyone know what the secondary theme is for NXT? I know they have the "Wild and Young" one, but there's another one that plays occasionally, I think part of it was used in the opening video this past week.

It's called 'Get Thru This' by Art of Dying, and was also the theme for last year's Survivor Series.
