  1. Anybody else catch the Rock Am Ring 09 Slipknot set that was on MTV HD last night? Pretty badass. Its on again Thursday at 1AM for those that are interested. Word of warning though the EPG says its from 1 to 2 AM but its actually around 40 mins longer than that so if you are SKY+ing it do a longer manual record if you want the entire thing. Have a look out for the Prodigy HD set from RAR09 as well, I've had that for a few months on SKY+ and its freaking awesome.

  2. well i watched Best of The Best 4, it's safe to say at this point that its in no way a sequel to the first movies, it's just an action film that happens to have a Karate guy named Tommy Lee in it. Again this was chuckaway nonsence but it was alright! For all Rhee's inadequacies as an actor, he's not a bad action star, he has the moves and all that stuff. Tobin Bell makes for a real good Die Hard style bad guy along with his sadistic younger brother. The film also gets extra props for the fucking ridiculous ending involving the plane taking off.

The film aint all good, Ernie Hudson is criminally underused and the exchanges between Lee and his daughter are excruciatingly bad, but like 3 (which i did prefer), it's better than a lot of b-movie actioners.

I'm with you, I watched them both a couple of weeks back and found 3 far more enjoyable. The nazis are awesome villains who I couldn't wait to see get there own brand of action justice. Not only that but the ending is balls to the wall cheesy actiontastic fun. I was also told it was terrible beforehand.

  3. Anybody else going to the High Voltage Festival? In warm up I've mainly been listening to DOWN this week. You gotta love them. To be honest I've not heard much from the other bands at HVF but I've been dying to see DOWN live for ages.

I'm going for Black Label on the Saturday, but not sure whether to stick around and see DOWN as well.

I've been considering doing both days but I'm not sure I can justify the extra expense. It would be cool to see Black Label, Orange Goblin and the Dio Tribute though.

  4. Anybody else going to the High Voltage Festival? In warm up I've mainly been listening to DOWN this week. You gotta love them. To be honest I've not heard much from the other bands at HVF but I've been dying to see DOWN live for ages.

Any recommendations on new earphones? I want a pair with better sound quality than my old regular Ipod set that the wife broke. I've been using awful JVC Gummy ear phones that are so terrible I've only used them for podcasts. Need to get the music going again when I'm out and about

  5. I'm considering ordering Death Before Dishonor 8 tomorrow. If you guys wouldn't mind I've got a few questions and this seems like the most likely place. Has anyone used the GoFightLive PPV steams before, if so whats the quality like etc? Are they reliable?

Also am I right in thinking it will start at 1AM like WWE PPVS? Do they have the intermissions in there entirety or are they on a tape delay that cuts them out? Whilst I'm at it can you order the PPVs as a repeat rather than live?

    Cheers

  6. Ninja Terminator. Always Ninja Terminator.

We watch a shit film from CEX every Sunday. We've watched lots and lots and lots of them. Sometimes a mid-week screening, sometimes double features. It's a bit of an institution. After all of this, and after watching a varied selection of Godfrey Ho's other output, Ninja Terminator remains head and shoulders above the rest as a the benchmark by which all hilariously shit movies should be judged. It is gut-wrenchingly funny. You don't even have to make smart arse remarks to find the humour in it, it is just a constant barrage of pure comedy. The Garfield phone, the robot, Tiger Chan's wig, Jaguar Wong's cigarette trick, Tiger Chan's USELESS henchman, Jaguar Wong getting into fights with every single person he meets, the fact that it's clearly a couple of films pasted together and linked only using the aforementioned Garfield phone. It's absolutely perfect and one of my favourite films of all time.

We have of course watched Hercules in New York at one of these mini-events as well, and it was almost unwatchably bad. The notorious bear scene is hilarious, Arnold's accent is funny and you could probably play a drinking game for the number of times Arnie takes his shirt off for no reason at all, but aside from that it's quite dull at times. Oh, and Hercules' little offensive Jewish stereotype manager character is fucking hateful. Difficult to watch his scenes, or at least it is for me. I did enjoy the sounds of passing traffic during the Mount Olympus scenes though.

If you're a fellow shit film buff I'd recommend "Daydream Believer" with Martin Kemp. He falls in love with a woman who acts like a horse when she's stressed. There's also a scene where Martin Grooms a horse and the woman watches and does horse mannerisms and simulates an orgasm. The film is not intended to be a comedy.

Last Sunday we watched "Primal Species". Terrorists hijack a truck trying to steal ten tonnes of Uranium. Little do they know that they've actually stolen ten tonnes of DINOSAURS! Yup, that was the premise. It had the guy who played Imhotep from The Mummy in it also. It was very bad. 1997 too, so the dinosaurs didn't need to look quite so bad. It also appeared to be missing about 30 minutes' worth of exposition, because there's a point where they all end up on a boat with all the dinosaurs and you have no Earthly idea how or why this situation has arisen. Bizarre.

Lol we had this same conversation months and months ago. There is nothing better than being fried and watching a really shit film. I've still never seen Daydream Believer but have heard really bad things so im definitely looking for it. That Primal Species sounds cracking as well. I really need to take a trip to CEX soon and stock up on my shit films. I dunno if you have Sky but there's a channel called Zone Horror that may as well just be named The Shit film Zone, the other week there was a film on called Sabretooth that had Sawyer from Lost in it, and honestly the CGI tiger is one of the most laughable uses of techmology i've ever seen, I'm sure the film was made this decade as well which just makes it even more inexcusable. Yeah it'll probably be Ninja Terminator it always is, easily the best

  7. Even cheap 1980s horror was better than this :(

Sleepaway Camp/ Nightmare Vacation series to start with

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sleepaway-Camp-Tri...ef=pd_cp_d_h__0

    Sleepaway Camp is awsome!

Its a basic slasher film, the second part is so Jason/freddie teen whit and humour its good (the third I never got around to watching, looked terrible)

The final scene of Sleepaway camp is one of those scenes that is seen as a classic horror movie moment. I was genuinely freaked by it.

If your a fan of teen slasher films then watch it. Dont read up on it because the spoilers will spoil it for you. Just watch and understand there are some awsome horror films out there.

The thing is though the origional Sleepaway Camp is a terrible slasher film right up until that ending. Without it not only would there be no sequals, nobody in there right mind would want to watch it. So lets not pretend your getting Halloween here. The ending is however one of the most effective I've ever seen.

Two is great in the way you mention. Its good old fasioned boobs out slasher fun. Three is crap but weirdly they shot it back to back with Two and it has none of its excesive charms.

  8. Starchaser: The Legend of Orin

Ive not seen this for, oh, 20 years!

Animated Star Wars style epic from 1984. Animation looks like the same team behind Bravestarr/He Man with added Kray 1 Spaceship Modelling

It starts off horrendously grim, seriously! As cartoons go its a bit adult themed/gory (perhaps best to view before kids letting them watch Nightmares a plenty possible especially the mandroids and so forth)

The language is also a bit harsh I think was the first 15 rated cartoon, then revised down to PG with cuts, but has no Region 2 release.

Definately worth a watch, it really is! Its comparable to Lensman in quality look and there are obvious similarities., which given source material isnt massively surprising.

Lots of big set pieces, some romance, lots of tragedy, some double dealing, some thrills and some regime change.. I rate it a solid 8/10.

Wow, I remember this being one of my favourite films when I was little. My brother had it on VHS and I watched it all the time. I remember it being something about slaves in a mine who are freed by Orin? I need to track this down.

Yeah thats the one. Its pretty damn violent by todays kids cartoons standards. I've got the region 1 dvd which is the only place its available these days. Apparently in cinemas it was in 3D which unfortunately isn't on the dvd.

  9. I really liked it. I've watched maybe 3 episodes since Tennant became Doctor. Not because I disliked it, just wasn't interested in starting a new series of anything and I'm the kind of geek that likes to start from the begining of something. This definately got me hooked for more.

Do they repeat the 1st episode at any point because I want the wife to see it.

  10. I've been on quite a martial arts spree the last couple of weeks. Watching Ong Bak 2, Ip Man, Dragon Tiger Gate on Blu Ray and Fireball, Hand of Death, Blood and Bone and Fearless Hyena on DVD. All tremendous entertainment.

I know there are a few posters that are into Martial Arts films like myself. Has anyone seen Bangkok Adrenaline? I noticed the trailer during impact this week and it looked pretty bad ass.

Also with the end of Hong Kong Legends I've had trouble tracking down some of there remastered releases I sadly neglected to get when they were in the high street. I'm a DVD geek so I don't do torrents and what not. I often browse various sites when I'm bored and whilst over at ezydvd.com.au I stumbled on the Hong Kong Legends edition of Weels on Meals and Shaolin Wooden Men. It turns out it appears that most of Hong Kong Legends back catalogue are still in print in Oz.

Fist of Legend finally gets the remastered treatment it deserves this week on DVD and Blu Ray. If you havent seen it its one of Jet Lees absolute best which I highly recommend. Its definately on my shopping list with Kill Zone next pay day.

  11. You can record PPVs but it is just a bit of a faff doing it. You need to go into Settings then Manual Recording. Choose the SBO HD channel and set it between 00:55 and 04:00 then it should work.

Awesome, cheers. Seeing as I've got HD I'd like to see it that way rather than a SD repeat.

  12. I've just ordered the rumble on my new sky+ HD and its giving me a message about it not be recordable. I was under the impression you could record it and watch it as many times as you like in 24hrs. Is that wrong or could I record when it starts and go to bed safe in the knowledge I can watch it later? I ordered via phone rather than the box because my phone is being hooked up in the next week.

  13. To be honest, she already has a small cult following with a few of my mates and their colleagues, who get these stories on email on a regular basis. Some of them are convinced I'm making her up, but she is real. Very real. A few of them have suggested the idea of a book or blog, but at this moment I can't risk making something too public in case someone gets on to it who has been witness to any of the tales. Like I said though, despite the entertainment she brings to many, I may have to do what I've been delaying and get shut.

Once she's out the door, this shit is going global.

In the meantime though, we could make this a bit more fun:

    1) Conversation starters. Think of a few topics which you feel may be the catalyst to another gem of a conversation. Don't bombard me with too many as I try not to engage in conversation too much so it would look obvious, but feel free to suggest something that may confuse her. No, that's too broad a category. Try to think of something she may think she knows about, but doesn't. Fuck. No. Still too broad. Oh sod it, thrown your suggestions this way and I'll see if I can crowbar some into everyday office chatter.

    2) Any suggestions which generate some more nonsense, will be pitted off against each other and we can have a pre-Christmas vote as to which is best.

    3) Whoever made the suggestion wins. They get a prize. A prize I am going to crack on with over the weekend.

This idea might die a death, but my friends, her time with us may be short so let's get as much entertainment as possible out of her.

I'm so entertained by her I might consider chipping in to keep her in your employment Waterboy. Please for everyone on the UKFF keep her for as long as humanly possible. It really is the highlight of a working day when your name pops up in this thread.

  14. All Chinese people look the same?

not all of them. but watch The Host. the lead is a guy with blonde bits in his hair. At the end their is two people eatting after all the horror. I couldn't make out who the 2nd guy was and why he was there so i looked it on this morning and its the lead but without the blonde bits

The Host is Korean. It is a cracking monster flick however.

I saw 9 and Jennifer's Body at the cinema yesterday. Both are hollow but have there moments. 9 is visually stunning but has little character development and has a seen it all before feel to its action/adventure aspect. Worth a watch though.

Jennifer's Body could have been quite good in a 80's horror sort of a way but the dialogue is so bad it makes Juno seem realistic. Its also about 20 minutes to long and has a completely unnecessary opening which makes the audience needlessly dislike the lead character. The opening in question also has a voice over filled with the aforementioned cringe worthy dialogue which immediately turned me off. Luckily it did improve with nods to 80's horror which I am quite fond of. Its a mess that really doesn't make sense but Megan Fox carries the idea of the film by being frankly frighteningly hot to the point where its demonic. Throw in some Evil Dead style black vomiting and a bit of blood splatter and for the part of me thats still 14 then its just entertaining enough.

  15. I'm watching the Battle of the Brits DVD I got a while back at pound land. Its in old WOS ring and has commentary by Brian & Max Crabtree. Could anyone tell me any details about this and the other DVDs that were out about the same time Kings of the Square Ring 1, 2 & 3. When were they shot and why? They keep referring to it as a programme rather than show or event ant I wondered if it was shot for TV initially. Its quite good fun in a All-Star sort of way. Looking on Amazon Battle of the Brits appears to be available split in 2 on DVD currently and split in 3 on VHS at some point.

  16. In my quest to delve into bargin bin hell to find the odd gem I bought the following from one of those dodgy shops that are set up in closed high street stores until they run out of stock.

    Shark Attack

    Crocodile

    Comic Book Villians

    Mustang Sally's House of Horror

    Halloween Camp 2

    Rip Off

YEAH THATS RIGHT I BOUGHT A BARGIN BIN FILM CALLED RIP OFF, SO WHAT!

Usually I stick to two genres when looking at buying cheapies like this, horror or action. As a general rule these are the only genres you can derive any sort of entertainment from at the bottom of the bin level I look at. Here is were I came unglued. I should never have risked it. Last night I had the deep misfortune of watching Comic Book Villians. Which is packaged to appear to be a low grade Kevin Smith style comedy caper but is in actual fact a loathesome self indulgent neo noir. Sure it attempts comedy but its so pathetic its unfunny. It fails on nearly every level including logic.

There were many, many iritating things in the film but high lights include a complete and utter contempt for the audience it appears to market it self towards by essentially being the anti comic book film. Every character involved is the most repulsive cliche that really couldnt be more pathetic e.g. Greasy geeks with massively poor social skills and personal hygiene but not in a cool Chasing Amy/Malrats sort of a way but in a, these people are the most horrible embarrasing representations of 'people' I have ever seen way. Its like the film sets out tell the world that comics could only appeal to sociopaths and the lowest of the low in society. Not only slaping its audience in the face by the mere presence of the characters but essentially the ending is a full on punch in the nuts by having the 'moral' of the story be 'stop being a child and reading childish comic books and you WILL be much happier as you clearly cant be a succesful well rounded individual if you do'. Its so narrow minded that it is well and truely hammered home as well.

There is perhaps one reason why I would suggest watching this abortion. It could possibly be used as a example of how having the worst choice of music score ever has a derogetory effect on films atmosphere ever. Im confident had it been a mix of cool music and apropriate score then it may have made the afformentioned problems a little less painful.

Apologies if you read through that. I had to get it out. Frankly it serves me right for not sticking with my tried and tested formula of horror and action fodder. They rarely ever piss me off as much as this has. Also I must be a bit of a twat for not noticing the only critique on the back cover was from the IMDB.

  17. I thought I was the only one who loves his Pound Land Hardgore/Film 2000 treasures. Infact I look forward to Halloween because of the influx of all the cracking shitty horror films they get in. This week I to snapped up a copy of Live Feed. I've yet to watch it but that review has inspired me to make it my next . Here is what else I noticed they had on offer/ I bought.

    The Jackhammer Massacre

Evil Breed: The Legend of Sam Hain

    Dead Man's Hand

    Skinned Alive

    Sickle

    Blood Gnome

They also had 2 Argento films. Puppet Master, Graveyard of the Dolls and Camp Blood 1 & 2.

I suspect people with regular taste in films should probably avoid most of these with the plague. But im the kind of person who baught every cult dvd he could find on Amazon with the word Cheerleader in the title.

  18. I really enjoyed the origional Fist of the North Star series. Its really daft violent fun. Every episode is essentially the same structure but i happen to like that structure. The only trouble is the UK Manga box is very much not the complete series. Its the 1st 40 or so. There are another 100 from what i can remember reading. I thought the 3 episode remake had promise but was abit dull over all.

The original Japanese manga, including the second saga, was only 27 volumes long. Did you read a set of individual episodes, or actual volumes?

Sorry, I ment the UK Manga Entertainment box set of the origional TV series not the manga books.

  19. Nothing current, but I just picked up a load of DVDs cheap at my local CEX. I have bought:

    Matewan

    Inland Empire

    Battlestar Galactica: Season 1

    Deadwood: Season 2

    The 13th Warrior

Fist Of The North Star: Complete Series

    Will post comments later.

  20. I never knew they were doing a remake, that's great news! I love the series. Does anyone know if there is a Friday The 13th box set available? Or would i have to buy them all seperately?

There is a region 1 Box set which I have been tempted by but much like the versions over here they haven't been remastered and certainly aren't uncut/unrated versions of the films which is a real shame. Hopefully someone will dig out the uncut prints eventually and give it the proper remastering treatment they so rightly deserve. If its going to happen then it'll be after the remake.
  21. I HATED Death Sentence. I'm going to give it another chance at some point during the week, because I like Kevin Bacon and I normally like those types of movies.

I didn't hate it but it is crap. Its starts off promising then slowly goes more and more down hill until you don't give a crap about any of it.On the subject of Don't Mess with Zohan is does have some really funny bits and I do like the comedy action etc but its just FAR to much cheap racism for me to forgive it. Although It did nearly bring me round with the cat in the living room scene.
  22. Serenity and Firefly are two different things though

They are? I only assumed Serenity was based on Firefly because they're Sci-Fi and that Nathan Fillion is in both.
Serenity is a feature film continuity of the TV series Firefly.
    So I'm right then.
You said something about him meaning Serenity not Firefly because we aren't in America. Here the TV show is still called Firefox and Serenity is the name of the film that followed it. So yeah they are different. Unless I have my wires crossed.
