  1. The Thong Song, especially with the music video. I loved it as an 8 year old kid but have fell back in love with it again more this past year. The violin gives me Di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street biting his knuckle 'sweet Jesus' vibes. The build in intensity throughout the song. Sisqo belting 'I don't think you heard me' about a women wearing a thong. His dancing and walking on top of a crowd of bikini'd women. The sexual climax and key change. What a bloody song.

Also, Vice have done a 20 minute history of how this song came about with interviews that's worth a watch.

Possibly better off in the who died thread, but as it's more to do with attitudes in general figured I'd post it here.

Before he died, apparently from COVID-19, Meat Loaf was dismissive of masks and vaccines, saying he wouldn't be controlled and saying a "Nazi" woman on a plane had shouted at him for not wearing a mask. Presumably he was on a commercial flight, as it would be odd if a passenger on a private jet was harangued in that way. Just over 50 years ago a man calling himself Dan Cooper (but who became better known as D.B. Cooper) walked into an airport, paid cash for a ticket, didn't have to show any identification, didn't have to go through any security checks, and walked onto a plane and during the flight claimed to have a bomb. What happened to him after that is the source of much conjecture, and is too lengthy to document in this thread. So if people like Meat Loaf aren't willing to be "controlled" by taking pro-active steps to protect themselves and their friends, families and Uncle Tom Cobley and all by wearing a mask and/or being vaccinated, why are they willing to be "controlled" by flying anywhere? Comparing airport security to the days of D.B. Cooper shows how much "control" people are forced to relinquish to fly. First off you need a government issued passport. Then you'll need to get all your luggage scanned. Then you'll need to take off your jewellery, hats, glasses, shoes, belt and empty your pockets. Then you'll need to walk through a scanner to see if you're carrying anything else. Then if, like me all the bloody time, the scanner returns a false positive you'll need to be scanned more thoroughly and frisked. The obvious conclusion is that you relinquish far more control every time you fly anywhere than you do by following the recommendations of doctors by wearing a mask and getting vaccinated, and that refusing a vaccine for fear of being controlled makes little logical sense.

I'd have thought the anti-vaccine stance is to do with having something injected into your body that you don't trust and anti-mask being an extension of that. If you don't trust it then it's more risky than going through security. I can see why someone would refuse the vax but still fly.

I dread to think how Nyla would get treated in WWE.

@Sphinxhe does have a unique look, and is bigger than most of the people in AEW, but he's not the monster powerhouse they always make him out to be on commentary.

I misread your post and get the point about the commentary. His character is predicated on the idea that he's big and powerful but can do some flying stuff too. For the majority of the time I think that it works well and it's about perception. Him moving around a bit slower and more deliberately and coming in and chokeslamming people all adds to the idea that he's bigger and doesn't look beyond his size. I guess because he's not huge it'll fall down sometimes. Drew McIntyre was like the same height as Kane but him being massive wasn't the selling point of his character.

It was like when Jurassic Expressed wrestled the Varsity Blondes on an episode of Dynamite. "Here comes the big man" says Excalibur as Luchasaurus comes in and stands eye to eye with Griff Garrison.

Going off of what's online, he's 6ft 5. He's hardly small and his physique's not shit. Compared with who he's generally in the ring with, he is the biggest. Whilst everyone else flies about, he moves around more deliberately and adds a different dynamic. I like him.

Rhyno had an intensity that was never really predicated on him being a "big man", though - he was booked as a little tank in ECW, not as someone that would tower over people and overpower them. Before his first neck injury, I always felt they translated that pretty well to WWE.

Yeah, I was thinking recently how Rhyno was one of my favourites when I first started watching WWF. He has a low centre of gravity and trunk legs and looked like he could be ready to hit the Gore at any time.

Edit: sorry, I misread the Luchasaurus part and the point. As I say he tends to be bigger than his opponents and still looks hencher than Griff Garrison but I get that him being the big man falls down more there especially with the commentary.

Blair dismantled much of the unwritten constitutional frameworks of the UK whilst in power (for more info read The Allure of Power by Bennet which covers this in depth and is fantastic).

I can't seem to find this book when Googling it. Do you have a link?

  6. WWF was big in our middle school (8 - 12) during the Attitude Era. Obviously parents want something that's cleaner but, as a kid, that stuff's exciting and taboo. I guess parents are the ones spending money but that can still translate into buying video games, figures, and other merch and kids will find ways of watching it if they like it enough.

I guess my point is I'm not surprised younger kids would like AEW. Especially not at 14 - kids are into all sorts at that age.

  7. Probably me being half glass empty, but as soon as I saw all the hype on here before he'd debuted I watched his match believing the hype would be blown out of proportion. It was alright, I liked how he has a distinct style with the judo throws and chokes. But yeah, he's barely done anything so I can't buy into any hype yet.

Oasis don't really sound like The Beatles at all though. The band they were most like was SLADE with Johnny Rotten on vocals.

In general they don't sound like them but between the nicked riffs and references to their song titles in their lyrics you can see why people make the comparison. Off the top of my head, the end of With A Little Help From My Friends is at the end of She's Electric. One of the end riffs off of All Around The World is pretty similar to one from I Am The Walrus. Oh, and they covered I Am The Walrus.

  9. Stand By Me on the Halifax advert makes me wretch a little.

They're a band I can listen to an album from and not have any desire to listen to again for 6 months - a year. Part of why their sound is dated is how loud some of their albums are. It's fatiguing. Though I only really listen to the first two and a few tracks from SOTSOG.

But yeah, I listen out of nostalgia. Oh also, Cast No Shadow's a right bore.

That's the other thing - they asked for my "memorable number", which is something I set up when I opened the account as a literal teenager. It's not written down anywhere, and I've only had to use it while phoning the bank, which has only really happened a handful of times in the years I've been with them. So every time I have to do it, I'm nervous that I might have just totally forgotten it and then not be able to get my problem fixed because I can't remember the sixth digit of a number that felt like it would be memorable twenty years ago.

I guess they have some secondary questions in case you forget, like asking about certain transactions, overdraft limit, if you have any other accounts with them etc. I seem to remember doing that before.

  11. I'm looking for a desk chair for working from home but am getting bogged down in the myriad options. I'm 6ft 3 and would ideally like a headrest but there are so many options that basically look the same to me so I thought I'd put it to the people of UKFF to see if anyone happens to have any suggestions. I can stretch to £200 if it's really worth it but ideally £150 tops.

There’s a lot of stuff that WWE do that is terrible, but their promo packages tend to do an outstanding job. Had WWE been producing this, that Pre-match video package would’ve been 3 times longer and hit every major plot point. What we got though here (and despite the special bit of entrance for Hangman) just seemed a bit rushed and not the culmination of something that’s had the better part of a full years worth of build.

I realise I’m probably in the minority in thinking that and I’m not saying that it was a bad or anything like that, but it just didn’t feel like what Hangman’s crowning moment should’ve been

I'm with you on that. I know there's a lot to uncover with this story but I was glad I watched the YouTube compilations of the story beforehand as it seemed to miss a lot and didn't build anticipation as much as I'd have liked.

Also, as was said earlier, the Young Bucks nods made the finish feel flat to me. I just put it down to me not following the story from the start and I guess that Adam Cole will become new leader so it feeds into that but the feel good moment for me is everyone trying to stop him winning and him overcoming the odds. There's enough of the Bucks being dicks that you want to see them get their comeuppance, not give him their approval.
