You know the topic "today I learned"?

I've been hearing podcasts talk about this film for a few weeks and suddenly reading your post I realise it's not Bowie's Afraid. Genuinely assumed it was some sort of homage to David Jones.

    The trailer looks decent:

  2. I went Primavera last year, was great. Get back about 7am, wake up mid-day, have cheap supermarket sangria for breakfast and lazily stroll around Barcelona til the festival begins again.

  3. All the talk of Final Fantasy VII got me reminiscing so I've downloaded it on Steam and get some mods to keep it looking vanilla but improve the visuals. There's a bank holiday house party some friends are throwing but I've been having too much being a recluse and playing that instead.

Pining for a Steam Deck I can't afford now.

There was a lot more than just X Factor contestants and landfill Indie around that time. Sure, the stuff filling the charts may have been shite, but you could say the same thing about now too. There were loads of amazing records released around then when you take a second to look.

I'd say the stuff filling the charts now is less shite than then and that's my point. Go back and check that X Factor peak. It's not just the contestants and naff Brit grime-to-pop, it's the 3Oh!3s, LMFAOs and Ke$has.

More interesting music is happening now and broadly more interesting in the subjects they address.

Not enough people are all listening to something all at once for there to be any solid sense of 2010s nostalgia in a decade's time, in my opinion, because it wasn't a decade defined in any way by its music - and I don't think that's me getting old.

The X Factor/EDM party pop era seems about the last defining time to me. Being in college and starting to go out for the first time whilst that dross was on, jeez. Naff indie during high school before that too. A lot of people will look at their younger years with nostalgia and say music was better back then. I can say without doubt music is better now than my teens.

  6. I have a copy in pretty mint condition and was wondering whether to sell or not. Maybe it could get more valuable over time. But I feel like I'm unlikely to read it again because I don't want to chance scuffing it (which sounds silly reading that back) so it seems a waste to hold on to.

Thats like saying a film is shit because you saw the trailer and decided that was enough to form an opinion. Awful take.

I think it's probably more like four or five matches I've seen him in now come to think of it but he didn't grab me in any of them. Having said that, I had a look on YouTube and I hold my hands up - I'm talking some bollocks here. He clearly can be fluid and have decent strikes, just it's seemed like he's off when I've seen him. It's probably not helped the opponents he's been against either.

Such a bad take that I can only assume it was a typo.

I've seen Escobar in two matches - the Rumble and that four way. As a WWE wrestler, he's not good. He lacks urgency, his strikes are naff, he goes through the motions. I remember him ending up having awkward sequences at the Rumble because of it. I don't know if his promos are any good as I've not seen them and I've not seen any character other than that he's Mexican.

To say you knew it from last week is odd. What was wrong from last week exactly?

What aura are you expecting him to have right now? You've already established that he's had the shit kicked out of him and he's out for revenge.

I honestly find it so weird that some people are giving up on him at this point.

I posted last week too so my thoughts are there.

The aura I'd want is some semblance of who he was before. He's turned into some hardnut on a mission when that wasn't who he was or what made him loveable. Things like pulling Heyman in and saying down his ear that it's not Cody Reigns needs to worry about, it's him. The 'looking at him weirdly line'.

Sami's in Montreal at EC which could be great but the result seems a foregone conclusion. It'll surely have all sorts of shenanigans going on to further the story and to be a vehicle for going into Mania which you'd think would make it good fun. I hope not but I still feel that it may have peaked at Rumble and that the story and characters won't grip me as much from that point onwards. I'll be back here to let you know how the egg on my face tastes if I'm wrong, and will be glad that I've got more out of it.

  9. I knew it from last week. It's fallen flat.

What made Sami loveable isn't what he's doing now. It was the mannerisms, it was the silly handshakes, it was the tentativeness. I know he needed some revenge and fire and he's hardly gonna piss around with handshakes after him and his mate got battered but the past two weeks he's not retained any of the aura. Foley was an underdog, could get himself over as a threat, sell the story, but still retain a loveable charm. The charm's gone since Rumble.

Sami and Jey looking round to make sure they're not caught talking to each other whilst a camera's in their grill is one thing. It's stupid but maybe it happens so much that you suspend your disbelief and it's just how they tell their stories.

Heyman saying Reigns will have seen it on live TV makes you then think about how he'd have seen it on live TV and reminds you that there was a camera right in their face. Really wouldn't have taken much to film them covertly.

    That Escobar is awful.

  10. Is it just me who found the Reigns/Sami segment underwhelming? After the Rumble segment with all the foreplay, this felt rushed to me. I know they couldn't and shouldn't do some half an hour build here but it was like 'woah, it's Sami out from the crowd with his hood up and now he's finally angry and beating up Reigns and now he's challenging him for a title match and now he's getting beat up again' all in quick succession. Maybe it's a trope or whatever but I'd have Sami at least being behind Reigns for a bit and letting the crowd process him there and then hitting him - there was no anticipation and this was the first time he's properly unapologetically thought 'fuck you' and hit him. I felt like I wanted to see the transition from the Sami we know to fired up Sami. Someone here said it was a Stone Cold level pop - I didn't feel that or see it in the crowd.

Having said that, I see that EC is 2 weeks (!) from when this Smackdown aired so they had to get the ball rolling. But still, tease the attack a bit.

They've done so well so far with the booking that it'll be interesting to see where it goes but Elimination Chamber currently feels like a given that Sami won't win which takes some of the drama out of the build to the match for me as we know it's at EC and for both titles. They're both so great and the booking's been so good that I imagine they can help make us forget that and get lost in it in the match though.

  11. I'm reading The Body by Bill Bryson. It took a little to get into it but it's good fun. The chapters are broken up by parts of the body and has lots of facts but easily digestible and it's easy to dip in and out of for a quick read on a lunch break or a train journey.

  12. Just to recap, Modric has been integral to sides that have won 5 Champions Leagues along with La Ligas, domestic cups, and Club World Cups and has been a part of a Croatia team that have got to the World Cup final and the World Cup semis this year (at least). He's still smashing it now at 37 years old. I think he's in the discussion.

Could you make an Eddie Kingston promo from Robbie Williams Lyrics

Imagine Eddie shouting the lyrics to Angel and it strangely works

"Come and have a go if you think you are hard enough" is the best I've got.

Though I'd be all up for him giving the rap from Kids a go.

I’d loved it too but I think this match happens in Japan now once Danielson is cleared.

I've not seen Zack Sabre Jr wrestle in a fair few years but remember him as the one who goes through the motions between a repertoire of holds and reversals he's learnt and is overall unconvincing.

People have continued to big him up a lot so I thought I'd check this out to see if he's added anything character wise at least. Same thing - unconvincing and absolutely no natural flow into the next thing he's saying. The swearing is so unrealistic and unnecessary, just seems like he's trying to make up for shortfalls by throwing them in.

  15. I check out The Guardian's football section and, out of habit, sometimes go to their home page. I find the opinion piece headlines so dull.

Today: "The lesson politicians refuse to learn? People are crying out for a leader who is honest about what they stand for".

Great. Groundbreaking stuff that people want an honest leader and our leaders are shit. What am I likely to get out of that article?
