  1. I was listening to Larry Zbyszko's MLW interview where he mentioned that he commentated on Nitro, Thunder and "Nitro International", which was the overseas syndicated version of Nitro. Was there any notable differences between Nitro US and Nitro International?

Also, did WCW ever have a TV deal in Mexico?

P.S. Zbyszko is so full of shite, it's quite funny.

  2. Houchen, his show was brilliant at the Fringe. It's essentially an updated version of Fylm Makker (don't know if you seen it, but it shouldn't be a problem if you have). Really great innovative set.

  3. I don't understand how they can run out of time and not notice. Surely every booker from WWE to the Wrestling Forum Be The Booker section can figure out that if you have 66 matches to book before [date x], you can map everything out and make sure it all fits before you even start the bloody story.

Have TNA stopped getting free stationary from their business partners? Dixie, if you need something to write your upcoming storylines with, I can liberate some Wurth notepads and clicky pens from work and get it sent over first class for you to write your latest wacky chapter out on. We've got tons of the bastards. PM me for details.

  4. I enjoyed the Cena/Orton match on first watch, but it certainly doesn't stand up to repeated viewings. Undertaker/Punk is alright, even if it is a glorified squash, and the DX/Legacy one is a fun match. I also seem to recollect one of the non-Cell matches being really good, possibly the IC title match which always seemed to be good around this time or the US title match, but I might be getting that confused with the amazing US title match the year after.

  5. I'm aware that this question is probably a bit too broad for the Questions thread and probably deserves it's own thread, but I wanted to err on the side of caution.

How has televised wrestling developed in-ring from the 80s? Has there been any key progressions in terms of match length, tempo or general approach? Has anyone spotted any trends in terms of what televised matches from certain eras usually were? Basically, if you were to take two wrestlers fighting on Wrestling Challenge and teleport them to Attitude-er Raw, or WCW Saturday Night during the nWo, would there be any notable difference? I remember someone posting something from a magazine last week about Vince tightening up the restrictions on TV matches to try and make it more sportish like WCW. Was this common? What where they doing exactly?

And here's a related question that is probably easier to handle:

What is the difference between a PG show and a more adult rated show in-ring? What is specifically banned from PG wrestling?

  6. Also, A guy like him?

Before we start sounding off the bigot alarms, I'm 100% certain he meant somebody with the level of talent he had (IE: Not main event material).

Also, good for Darren Young. It must be a great weight off his shoulders, but for the love of god, don't give him a gay gimmick. People always go on about how there should be more characters that are sensitively handled. This is WWE, unless you want Darren Young turning into Kenneth Williams, he really should not be incorporating his sexuality into his gimmick.

  7. Saints Row 4 Limited Edition announced:

Those with more money than sense can now buy the Saints Row 4: The Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition for the princely sum of one million dollars, Deep Silver has announced.

The one of a kind special edition contains:

Saints Row IV : Commander in Chief Edition

A full sized replica Dubstep Gun

A full day of spy training

A trip to space with Virgin Galactic

One year's membership of E25 Super Car Club and a Lamborghini Gallardo to make it worthwhile

Plastic Surgery of the purchaser's choice

A shopping spree with a personal shopper to create the ultimate Planet Saints capsule wardrobe

7 nights for two at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington

    Hostage rescue experience

A brand new Toyota Prius and insurance to give something back to the environment

7 nights stay in the Top Royal Suite at the Burj-al-arab with flights for two

Best thing about it? The website says you can pre-order it from Game. :D

  8. Last I read, they wont put singles matches on him on their DVDs. They only feature him if its an Elimination Chamber, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series or something. Or even if he's mentioned in passing on a WCW DVD by a talking head. They wont promote him though. They cut out a lot of the commentary of the War Games 97 match when he was in the ring at the start because they were putting him over strong. If a new Jericho DVD comes out, you wont see a singles match of Benoit on there.

I'm very interested as to see what things are blacklisted for WWE DVDs. Benoit being put over obviously is one of them, as well as Rey Mysterio's unmasked phase in WCW due to kayfabe reasons, but is there anything else notable that is forbidden from release?

  9. I am woefully behind on Impact. I'm currently watching the induction of Magnus into the MEM and have been struck by the odd suits. Sting looks like an accountant of a firm for 30 years who has taken redundancy money and turned up at the job centre in his suit to sign on, because he thinks it's a proper interview, Samoa Joe looks like a dodgy Greek car dealer and Kurt Angle looks like a drunk uncle at a wedding. Does anyone know about suits? Can anyone tell how much TNA are shelling out on their suits. Am I just not looking at it right or are those shit suits?

EDIT: Just saw Al Snow's screamer of a suit jacket. I take it all back.

  10. How accurate are the amended Japanese characters in WCW vs. The World and the two AKI N64 WCW/nWo games? I know the names were changed to avoid copyright issues, but are the appearances or movesets similar in any way? Also, does anyone have a list of who is who in WCW/nWo Revenge?

  11. Not having much luck with apron spots as of late, are they?

That kind of sums it up for me. The fact they're having multiple apron spots on such a frequent basis and they're going wrong. Apron spots are unbelievably dangerous. In fact, I don't think I had ever seen one until a year or two ago in that Jay Lethal TV title match on their TV show that went to a 15 minute draw and they agreed to restart the match until the end of the programme instead of leaving it as a draw (memories are really fragmented on this one). At the time, I winced and thought it to be a stupid move, now ROH and the X-Division seem to have over-saturated it. Apron spots should be reserved for absolutely final blood fued-ending to the death clashes as a kayfabe final resort, not 4th from top on a random card.

Fuck apron spots. And piledrivers. How daft can you get?

  12. Also, whilst we're on the subject, I'm sure it's universally hated but I bloody love the 'Russo's Revenge' War Games match. Perfect WCW silliness.

I'll echo that sentiment. I love silly-billy WCW because even at it's worst, it was thoroughly entertaining. I generally watch wrestling so I can be briefly nine years old again, because it makes me feel young. Things like WarGames 2000, or the Sting/Vampiro fued with the Graveyard/Human Torch/HIAC matches and the bloodbaths absolutely tick the "nostaglic child mentality" boxes that I look for in wrestling.

On that note, I'd like to nominate

It's an utterly daft match with I think five fake Sting run-ins from different eras. Not much in the way of wrestling, but in terms of mindless overbooked brawling, I love it.
