  1. Yeah he does and I have been tempted to buy it but it has mixed reviews so I'm still unsure, theres nothing I hate more than waiting for the book to be delivered and then being disapointed within the first few pages (JYD!)

And its nice to know WWE will be releasing those 18 books, I really hope they aren't on current or recent WWE Superstars, I couldn't think of anything worse than reading a book about a guy who hasn't been in the business that long and isn't very old so more than likely hasn't got a decent story to tell like I can imagine Batista's book to be like.

I'm looking forward to Backlunds book, now theres a guy who I can imagine has an interesting story that ranges over a few decades, very interested and looking forward to reading it.

  2. Anybody know when more bio's are being released? I look on Amazon from time to time but I can't find any new books coming out soon that interest me.

Is there a website that lists release dates for wrestling related books, there seems to be no good ones coming out soon. I read that Jericho's new one is out soon not sure I'd bother getting that, I've lost interest in Jericho lately.

I'm looking forward in some ways to the Rock releasing his 2nd book, I believes its a follow up from his first which will tell all about his run during the 00's and his return. I'm more of a fan of books that talk about the territory days of the 70's/80's but I could be tempted to buy his book.

I'd love for Ricky Steamboat to release a book!

  3. Does anybody know where I can watch Lipstick and Dynamite the documentary on the history of womens wrestling?

And I can't get my head around WWE travel scedules...When WWE Superstars travel from venue to venue is it like the old territories days and they drive themseleves to each city or do WWE pay for there flights? and are the Superstars on the round pretty much 7 days a week? they mustn't get to spend a lot of time in there actual houses. And, how do they get paid? I don't really understand contracts and downsides and such so I've always believed they get a monthly pay depending on their contract is that right? and what does downsides and upsides mean in regards to their contracts?

  4. There's alot of big names that need squeezed on to the WrestleMania card, you not think the the other main-event could be a 3 way or fatal four way? That way everybody gets on the card. I can see something similar to WrestleMania 16 with a McMahon in each corner more so because they Authority storyline seems to be continuing, Vince could return as a face and to battle Triple H/Stephanie and be in the corner of Daniel Bryan, Shane could make an appearance and be in the corner of Bigshow and Linda could have Ryback or some one. Have the stipulation which ever McMahon wins gets sole ownership of the company or something like that, have Hogan come out and help Bryan win and thus save WWE from the Authority.

Or a six-man with Stephanie and Shane in the heel corner Triple H/Wyatt/Kane vs Bryan/CM Punk/Bigshow with Vince in their corner again with the above stipulation and again Hogan comes out to make the save and help faces win or a bigger suprise helps the heels win.

Or Bischoff could return with Sting and be in his corner, Heyman in the corner of Brock and Vince in the corner of Taker playing off WWE vs WCW/ECW. That's probs least likely to happen but the 30th wrestlemaina seems to round a number for the stake of ownership of WWE not to be on the line in one of the matches.

That leaves Cena/Orton/Lesnar/Batista for the main-event.

  5. When I worked for wZw I had it explained that work/worker is used instead of wrestling/wrestler because when your a professional wrestler, you are paid to wrestle, it's a job so therefor you are a worker. You don't say before the show starts your wrestling this guy tonight you say, you are working with this guy tonight because its a job you work together to accomplish a successful match. I also remembering reading (in a book about the history of the NWA) that the term worker originated in England and when British wrestlers started to move across to work in America the term was taken across there. I think this is right because in The Dynamite Kids book he used the word all the time when referring to a wrestler but iv not heard it in many books wrote by American wrestlers.

Also iv heard it being used in the context that wrestling is a work used under the kayfabe terminology, I suppose when a bunch of workers/wrestlers were sitting in a bar or in a locker room with people their who weren't filled in, the term working would be used instead of wrestling. I think in general worker/work/working sounds better and more formal and official than wrestler/wrestling.

I could be wrong but I have had it explained to me but babsically from what I remember its what I said before. Your a worker because your a professional you get paid and you work with your fellow worker to create a successful match. 2 workers, work together to create a successful match and work together to make sure your both protected and safe.

  6. Is it a choice to switch from wrestler to commentator in WWE? Or are u told to switch, I was wondering was it the choice of Matt Striker/Alex Riley/Taz. I know Taz was having neck problems so that may have been the reason he got moved to commentary but it doesn't seem fair if it wasn't the choice of Striker/Riley.

  7. I didn't watch the full show but watch bits and pieces on youtube. I got the sense the reason why Orton lost to Kofi is because he was mentally distracted by his upcoming match against Cena and on-top of that the return of Batista and Lesnar'Ss quest to win the what ever the world title is called now.

  8. I'm not sure if its already been mentioned but the YouTube channel MonsoonClassic is brilliant for matches from WWE and WCW in the 90's that featured on WorldWide and WWE programming during that period. I look forward to new matches being uploaded most of them Iv never seen or even knew occurred.

On a side note but was the WCW programme that aired on Channel 5 years ago called WorldWide?

  9. I really enjoy watching TNA when I can catch it on TV, more often than not its more entertaining than WWE and TNA feels more about the wrestling than WWE which is refreshing.

Surely this is just a cretin talking bollocks, TNA viewers? Raw is pretty much exclusively about wrestling these days. I'd hope that TNA isn't so lazy.

This is what I mean about nasty people/users on here. To clarify not that I should have to clarify myself to you. I don't watch a lot of either TNA or WWE but from what I have seen of TNA the wrestling which is produced for me at times is more entertaining and can be at times less repetitive than what Raw delivers. I feel sorry for people like you, I really do.

  10. Each and every single one of C-Rock's stupid posts (and they're all stupid, which really is an amazing effort) can be summed up thus:-

    1) Bring back the Attitude Era!

    2) ??????

    3) PROFIT!

I'm not sure that C-Rock's not just having a laugh at us all at this point. Too much of what he says doesn't add up. He fits a little too neatly into the stereotype of the smark of about five (well, probably more) years ago. If he's genuine its nice to have someone who has different views, even if some (or more...) of them don't make sense, but I worry that he's not and he's putting it on...

No I'm not putting it to try to get a reaction out of people, I don't take this forum that seriously and have better things to do with my time. My opinions are my opinions this is a forum were you post your opinions and views on various wrestling topics and I give my views just like everybody else it just seems as though nobody agrees with them, which is fair enough but doesn't make my or anybody else's opinions wrong, that's why they are called opinions. I do get the sense that people take this forum far to seriously especially when people are remembering my previous posts etc lol I'm not on here not piss anybody off or rub people the wrong way, I don't slate other peoples opinions or anything, I see this forum as a bit of fun where wrestling fans (or marks or whatever you want to call them) can have a bit of debate/banter etc and nothing more. I don't really understand the term 'mark' or 'smark' I've always believed the term to be a wrestling fan who still believes wrestling is real which I can't believe any of us do on UKFF. I don't understand were the thresh-point is that divides being a fan of wrestling and a mark, I'd love to know. I was once told that only a mark would use the word mark, I'm not sure if that's correct or not, I've never called anyone a mark because like I say I don't really know what it means and I'm sure a lot of you who do use the word don't either. I don't care which side people think I'm on, I just see myself as a wrestling fan who enjoys reading about this history of pro-wrestling and the territories days. I don't care who wins or looses matches, who champions are or what goes on behind the scenes if that makes me a mark then I'm happy to be one. I suppose I do have a lot of different views to many others but what I think seems common sense to me.

I'm not a big fan of WWE's current product, I find it boring and repetitive and cartoonish and no I don't want a return of the attitude era in all honesty I can't remember a great deal about that era just that it was more entertaining than WWE's current product. I do wish WWE would move away from trying to conform to a in my opinion limited PG environment and shake things up a little bit. I find WWE these days a better watch when its programming is on fast forward because its just not for me, entertainment and storyline wise. Its a fact more people watched WWE during the Attitude era, I believe PPV buyrates may have been higher, ratings in general and attendances. I believe that shows that WWE has went back in the betting to some degree and the entertainment side of things has took a hit because of that but with that said I blame it more on the PG era because I believe in the early 00's to I'm not sure when but before PG ratings and those prior mentioned statistics were pretty solid certainly better to what WWE is getting now. I love that WWE has branched out with its various campaigns like Be a Star etc but as an older fan like I have said before I just wish WWE would throw a bone on occasion to its older fan who misses a little bit of attitude, a little bit of attitude would go along way and really create some interest for not just me but I'm sure a lot of other fans who have over the years have stopped watching. I'd also love to see a little bit more nostalgia and have more old-school Raw's and stuff, it keeps things different instead of the mundane Raw's we get week after week. I understand times change and people get older, maybe its because I've grown out of WWE. I still do wrestling training and refereeing when I can find the work so maybe I see wrestling in a different light these days. I've never been a big collector in fingers or DVDs and stuff, I'm more fascinated by the business side and the history of wrestling.

This is a TNA topic so sorry to rabbit on back to TNA discussion! top and bottom my opinions may be shite but there my opinions sorry, I respect everybody else's I'd be grateful if you would respect mine or at least be constructive in your reply, everybody loves a good fun debate but its really off-putting when people are just plain nasty.

  11. I really enjoy watching TNA when I can catch it on TV, more often than not its more entertaining than WWE and TNA feels more about the wrestling than WWE which is refreshing.

I think the key to TNA reaching new heights is advertising and marketing better, I think they are making the mistake of bringing 'celebs' and sportsmen from outside of wrestling in to TNA when they should be doing the opposite and getting out in to the main-stream as much as possible. Nobody is going to watch or invest in your product if they don't know it exists, if I where the Carter family or whomever is in charge of that kind of thing I'd plow what ever money affordable into advertising and marketing and think outside the box whilst doing it. There are so many different forms of advertising that TNA are failing to tap in to. The in-ring and entertainment side of things is pretty great obviously they can't match WWE on production side of things but TNA should hide their weakness's and accentuate their positives, like it was mentioned above they should use to their advantage that WWE is now a PG product and try to counter them by becoming more edgy and controversial. There's more to wrestling than wrestling these days and wrestling matches can be found all over the US in indie promotions. TNA should dare to be different and be willing to take chances. I'd personally switch off WWE to watch TNA if they had more attitude, I'm getting tired of WWE's cartoon antics and would much prefer something aimed and driven towards my demographic.

WCW is a prime example of how to compete with WWE (and ultimately over-take them for a brief period) Bischoff, for all he is slated etc he did think out-side the box and play dirty in his war against WWE. His WCW product had attitude before WWE had attitude, WWE took a page from their book and as history states WWE took Attitude to a whole new higher and more entertaining level. I'm not sure what the deal was or is between Bischoff and TNA but I'm sure the reason Bischoff hasn't made the same waves is because of 2 reason's he didn't have the Ted Turner cheque-book and he's run out of creative steam (much like Vince McMahon, IMO). There's is still a slight hope for TNA in my opinion if they would only change their thinking which I'm sure is easier said then done.

Has everything that can be done in wrestling already been done? is there nothing creative left that can create another boom period for TNA (or WWE for that matter)...I think so. Can WWE still do something to shock the wrestling world? I don't think so, I think that everything that can be done has been done, I think small waves can still be created due to matches that still haven't happened yet that could still happen but I don't think WWE can sustain anything major for a long period of time. The creative tank is running on empty, I think for WWE the PG rating is making things harder for them in a time when its hard enough to be creative. TNA could sneak in the back door and pull out the bag something that would rock the wrestling world....can they? would they? can they afford it?...I don't know but its going to have to be something pretty big because in my opinion wrestling fans have seen everything else over the years, there's nothing left to shock us and now we are just complacent with what we are being served up on a weekly basis.

  12. I can't understand why he wouldn't want to do it...its WrestleMania. He's a millionaire, he isn't doing a great deal with himself as far as I can tell...I'm sure WWE's original offer to him if indeed they have actually made an offer was a pretty tidy sum so why not? he can't really be that bothered is all I can think and that's a bit of a let down for his fan's I'm sure. I really hope WWE don't bend over backward and give him some crazy money for a spear and jack-hammer spot at WrestleMania, it for me personally wouldn't add to the show. I'd much rather see Ryback take the piss out of him and stick on a pair of black tights, do the Goldberg entrance and the same spot and stick it down Goldberg's throat, at least it gets a young WWE Superstar on the card and gives him a chance to get over. It will save WWE a fortune and probably still get a big reaction. Please don't cater to him, Goldberg need's WWE more than WWE need's him in my opinion.

Carbomb were you going to call me a mark by chance? lol I don't understand that term apart from a wrestling fan who thinks wrestling is real which I obviously don't. Its the most stupid word ever and has no meaning to me. I just believe there are wrestling fans with different levels of knowledge and understanding for the wrestling business. Which side would be the mark?

  13. How can you put Goldberg and Benoit in the same sentence? What Benoit did had no ties to his respect for the wrestling business, his actions where personal and not business. I think Goldberg's actions are on the flip side and it would be nice instead to see Goldberg actually show personal affections in regards to making a return at WrestleMania instead of coming across like a money hungry dis-respectful prick like he is. I know he is a business man but its WrestleMania and he's already a millionaire...its probably less than a days work when you add in the promotional side of things and its not like Hollywood acting roles are beating down his door at the minute. Actors take pay cuts to work with certain directors or on a certain project because of their passion for acting, why can't Goldberg have that same passion....oh thats why cause he has none for the wrestling business.

  14. I have just read this on some wrestling news website....

Bill Goldberg was at the C4 Comic Con in Winnipeg a few weeks back and was asked about appearing at WWE’s WrestleMania XXX. He said Triple H has called him and they have talked but there’s no deal in place.

Goldberg said he is open to coming back and would like his son to see him wrestle once but he would only do it for the right price. He said he would never call WWE and ask to come back, and that the ball is in their court and they know what they have to do to get him to return. A WWE source says Goldberg’s financial demands were very significant.

Goldberg added that WWE did try to push him on the “think of the pop you’ll get” idea but he said from his point of view, they are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to negotiating tactics.

Goldberg can fuck off, some people would give their everything to be on a WrestleMania card and feel that 'pop' for Goldberg to be so arrogant over the fact he's holding out for more money is a slap in the face to pro-wrestling and the thousands of wrestlers around the world on the independent scene and the WWE Superstars who are being over-looked for the same spot he would be taking. Goldberg doesn't give a shit about the pro-wrestling business, its history or the legends who came before him and paved the way so arrogant muscle freaks like him have a business to make money in, in the first place and a WrestleMania to preform on. I have no respect for Goldberg, he doesn't deserve to be at WrestleMania.

I know negotiating is common when it comes to stuff like this but I really get the feeling Goldberg doesn't give a fuck whether he is at Mania or not, he does't give to shits about his fans (or lack there of, I certainly never was one or am now). The guy is a millionaire and has been out of WWE for years, he's lucky WWE still have some obvious desire and faith in him. Goldberg in my eyes is a money hungry prick who for all his years in the wrestling business used the business and is now shitting on it, he needs to remember if it weren't for wrestling he'd more than likely be a nobody...but to me he already is. He needs to remember he is a second rate Stone Cold Steve Austin and that WWE is only after him because Austin has more than likely turned it down.

I'm sure a lot of you won't agree.

  15. Thanks for backing up my review on Terry Funks book lol

I'm really looking forward to Pat Patterson releasing his book, he's a guy who I'm sure has many interesting stories to tell from his extensive career. I'm very interested in finding out about how Patterson maintained his career being gay and I presume 'out' for most of it, especially during the 70's and 80's. It will give an interesting take similar to I can imagine to the autobiography of Chris Kanyon which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

On a slight side note, was Lord Alfred Hayes gay? I always thought it was common knowledge but I read recently in one of JR's blogs that 'he loved the ladies' I know Hayes had a habit of ribbing younger guys in the locker room by sliding his hand down their pants to make them feel uncomfortable in front of the other wrestlers in the locker room but of course that doesn't make him gay, I'm just sure I heard or read some where that he was.

  16. Its absolutely heartbreaking seeing Bobby Heenan in that condition. I wish I'd never seen that picture, I'd of preferred to have remembered him as he was during the Hall of Fame a few years back, still watching now it now gives me goosebumps when he receives the much deserved standing ovation during his induction.

  17. I didn't realise that Tony Chimel was the guy who received the Sweet Chin Music from Shawn Michaels during the WM12 Iron Man Match and that he's worked for WWE since 1991, that's got to make him one of the longest WWE employees, he also has a son named Marrella after the late referee Joey Marella.

Yes I have just read his wikipedia...wow I really need to start doing more on my Saturday nights lol

  18. I buy Powerslam every month and have done for a few years, I tend to skip a lot of stuff about whats happening in wrestling now and a prefer to read articles that talk about the old days of wrestling up to the 90's, I find them pretty informative and they often mention things I didn't know already. I enjoy reading the interviews when its with some one I'm interested in reading about (again not so fussed on wrestlers from this era). Their reviews of matches and PPV's from the old days are pretty interesting as well.

I don't pay attention to writers names etc but they seem pretty informed about this history of wrestling but I often wonder is it really their knowledge or wikipedia thats providing the info?

I personally enjoy reading Powerslam I can't understand the hate for the magazine and what people are finding so offensive, it has something for everyone. This Fin Martin guy who I know nothing about puts together a pretty informative magazine. I do wish the magazine was slightly bigger, like I say I skip through a lot on todays wrestling world like indy stuff etc which I don't watch so that sometimes doesn't leave a lot to read so I'd like for the magazine to include slightly more about the territory days of wrestling, with that said I have really enjoyed reading this history of the WWE Championship and the different holders and the back story behind each.

  19. I just came across this on youtube which is a pretty dandy Marquis of Queensbury Rules match between Steve (William) Regal and Ric Flair, its opened my eyes that Flair can really get down and chain wrestle, I didn't realise he was as accomplished on the matt. Regal looks wasted, as I'm sure he was during that period if I remember from his book correctly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlQFDw5vA2k (Round 1, the other rounds are there as well)

Who's idea was it to call the referee in this match 'Dick Willy' his parents or someone in the WWF entertaining themselves at this poor referees expense....

    Piper vs Snuka... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLng8ygr4Gs

  20. If you haven't read it already I highly recommend Hacksaw Jim Duggan's book its a really fun read, also the book wrote by Jimmy Snuka is a very decent read, very in depth and he talks openly about the murder case he was involved in which is an interesting read, whether you believe his story at the end is up to you however, I'm on the fence still.

  21. The JYD book I'm sorry to say was probably the worst biography I have read, my full review is some where in this thread but to some up...

Obviously because of his death the book is wrote by somebody else and from the first page the writer comes across like he really isn't the most knowledgeable person on wrestling in general, most of what he says could be found on JYD's wikipedia or through a little bit of research, he repeats himself a lot in regards to how JYD got his name and his impact as one of, if not they first black star in wrestling. The writer often goes off subject and rambles on about other wrestling stars of that era again filling us with simple infomation that could be found on the internet. There's nothing in the way of locker room stories or JYD's personal feelings on his career due again his death in 98 I believe it was. Most of his career is glossed over more importantly his jump to the WWE during Vince McMahon's take over of the terriories in the 80's. His death and family life is summed up in 2 short paragraphs. Unlike other autobiographies at the end of the book, I really didn't feel I knew a great deal more about the JYD or the man himself Slyvester Ritter. AVOID THIS BOOK! its a shame a book on a obvious legend and revolutionary key player during arguably the golden era of wrestling was so half arsed written.
