The worst thing about Roman/Cody’s trap, isn’t they both lied to each other, it’s that they came through the crowd and rather than get into the ring, they just walked around it so they could look silly standing with Roman to stare at Cody. I didn’t get that at all.

That's an odd way to look at it. How about you say that every other babyface since the dawn of time has been a gullible idiot because they believed what the heel said and that Cody knew Roman was untrustworthy so brought the backup that he knew he'd need. Cody looks smart, Roman looks out maneuvered and we roll on to Mania. It's showing Roman that someone might finally be on his level. To just think "Well they are both liars" is an odd take to me.

  2. The S-Down crowd definitely wandered off a bit in the middle of all that. When you are giving them more talk than wrestling you have to make the signposts of what to chant and where very clear and they didn't do that. The respective promos were good at telling us what we already knew to keep the story moving forward. There are two S-Downs left before Mania, you'd imagine that these guys will be in a holding pattern again next week before something special on the go home show.

The stuff with the kids and disabled fans is genuine too, I think.

    I really hope so.

I think there are plenty of sides to Cody, he's never come across as shallow to me. As has been pointed out though, he looks like a Batman villain. Surely there will be a proper heel run somewhere down the line. That could be amazing to watch.

  4. I always thought the initial American Nightmare run he was a heel, am I wrong? I would also say that there is certainly a perception that the "American Dream" has turned into the "American Nightmare" in the US. I am probably talking shit, but that is how I have always seen it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Cody superfan, I haven't really given him lots of thought, this just seemed easily apparent to me. Again I would also say that fans don't connect with surface characters the way they have connected with Cody, no matter how hard they are pushed. It's why Karrion Kross performs to silence every night.

I would also say that the names/nicknames that wrestlers give themselves or are given at the beginning of a run are often not related to their character for more than a couple of months at the start, if they ever are at all. For example I don't think that Stone Cold Steve Austin was ever below room temperature. I don't think Tugboat ever maneuvered larger ships into position and I don't think The Rock is sedimentary or igneous. If names were changed all the time to make sense there would be so many changes that a wrestler would not be able to build enough name recognition. I for one have no desire to see The Middle Aged Bucks team with Okada. Mainly because the initials of Middle Aged Bucks spell out MAB and no one needs that in their lives.

So "The American Nightmare" is now part of the "American Dream Team". Why the fuck is he called the American Nightmare anyways? Has that ever been explained? His character is basically the biggest red white and blue flag shagger since Hogan so I've never really got it.

And it definitely doesn't help that the "American Nightmare" has "Dream" tattoo'd on his chest!

I'm assuming the only reason he uses the nickname is because it sounds cool. Like with everything with Cody it's all surface level schtick.

I genuinely thought that this was the easiest thing to work out, and I'm not having a pop at all Gooshy.

As Cody often says, everyone else brings up his dad. He wanted to try and do something in wrestling that wasn't based on his dad's success. His dad was "The American Dream" and Cody wanted to oppose that. The opposite of a dream is a nightmare, hence "The American Nightmare"

I may be retconning that but I've always thought this was the case I think. It's a simple story really, a sons desire to get out from beneath his father's shadow, and accomplish something more than his dad ever did. Something that is relatable to a lot of people, not just wrestlers.

I definitely don't think Cody is all surface, and if he was he would never have connected with the fans the way he has.

Noticed Owen Jones has withdrawn his Labour Party membership. The reasons he gave (basically carrying on with the same Tory policies) were valid in fairness.

He's not a train, he doesn't need to announce his departure. For me Clive, Owen Jones always does what will get most attention for Owen Jones. He's a grifter with a Guardian veneer. I might be wrong but that's how I feel about him.

  7. The only way Eddie could look more out of shape is if he was attached to a defibrillator. I thought the match was OK but they both looked a little tentative at times. Okada is going to have to adapt to the American TV style under the full glare of the spotlight which should be doable but won't be easy.

Ospreay continues to defy belief. The delivery and accent went a bit Tom Hardy in Peaky Blinders this week but again more than did its job.

    I'd go for...

Vader vs Lesnar in a "I want to pull out your eye and make you eat it" match - I would be fascinated to see how both parties dealt with the whole situation, especially given Vader was a bit rough around the edges and Lesnar is a legit hardcase.

Sid vs Yokozuna - Cos why not?

Steiner Brothers vs Bucks or LOD vs Bucks. - watching Hawk just walk away or no sell their bullshit would be beautiful.

You normally pay a bit more attention than this Micky Numbers. You literally have dead folks in every match. It's the worst effort by far.

  9. Hughie Fury is going to be making his comeback after 3 years off on a card in Rotherham on April 20th against an as yet unnamed opponent. I don't know what's going on with Hughie, whether he has been ill, injured or something else but this seems fairly suspicious to my untrained eye. I wonder if the Texas Athletic Comission are involved at all.

Could be worse. His first name could be Justin or Alex.

Like Alex Hiscock at our school, who was only referred to for the duration of school as Al-licks His-cock. Great days.

I went to school with a lad whose surname was Pratt. As you can imagine this was something of an issue for him at school. Before he went to 6th form his family moved and he went to a differnt school where he told everyone his name was Wilkinson. Unfortunately for him another lad from my school moved there during the autumn term of the first year, told everyone his name was not Wilkinson and poor old Pratty was back to square one.

It'll still be a fucking slog to get through.

Seriously... worse comes to worse they stream it for free on Youtube?

But surely... SURELY... someone will pay something to have Raw for 3 months?!?

Who wants to pay for a 3 month extended advert for a new Netflix show? Like you say I'm sure a deal will be struck somewhere.

Personally I'm hoping they drop Raw to 2 hours.

If they don't sort something for between the end of September when the TV deal ends and the beginning of January when the Netflix deal starts then Raw will be dropping to 0 hours.
