  1. Saw the new Transformers last night and this was a marked improvement over the last one.

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

    Pros:

    - The special effects were good and suitably epic at times.

    - Very good first 20 minutes. Okay the last 140 minutes.

    - Shockwave and the 'meal worm' thing were quite scary in some scenes.

    - Optimus Prime finally acted like the hero we all know he can be

    - More colour to the robots helped distinguished them from each other

    - Much less Sams mum and dad and the little Joe Pesci transformer (the former are done away with quickly)

    - No racist robots (although there was an Autobot who spoke with an awful Japanese accent (?), the Ferrari I think)

    - Good 3D effects

    - Some of the robot deaths are handled much better this time and we're given a bit of time to take it in.

    Cons:-

    - Sams girlfriend Rosie Hunter is the worst actress ever.

    - The 'goofy funny' comedy is still there (but toned down)

    - The abrupt ending

    - Why oh why has there to be in almost every scene some sort of funny scene or quirky comment made with comedy music in the background? Even in the serious scenes? It totally kills the momentum, for example, Sam and his buzzing watch (don't ask) making him act like he's having a spasm and about to shit himself, this was during a very important moment in the movie and it was played for laughs.

    - 'Missing Autobot Syndrome' returns for some of the scenes

And the worst bit in the movie?

The appalling treatment of Megatron - I mean seriously, we get 'Taliban farmer Megatron' in the beginning tending to his erm robot farm animals wearing what looks like a poorly conceived burka wrapped up by a 3 year old and then we get 'slummed up Chicago bum/hobo Megatron' at the end laying in some back alley somewhere covered in what looked like robot fleas!?

AND Rosie Hunter of all people completely owns him by telling him what a giant pussy he is! Disgraceful!!

  2. What was number 4 like? Quite enjoyed the first one, bit of a Vin fan  so I'm thinking of dipping back in at the point he rejoins the franchise.

That wasn't too bad, certainly better than 2 and 3 and there's no doubt having Diesel back elevates the movie into something a bit more special and makes it feel like the 'proper' sequel to the original.

  3. Went out to see:

    Thor

TO be honest i wasnt expecting a whole lot, i just had this idea it was going to be really really bad. But thankfully i was wrong! I wont go to much into it, as its a fairly new release, and some guys will want to see it, but i personally think it has been made in the best possible way that it could of been made. Visually, it is stunning. The story is also good, as to be hoenst i didnt know the first thing about the Marvel univeres thor (i had a rough idea of the mythology side of thor), and it all came through rather well.

Its also packed with little notes for the geeks to pick up on. (References/Appearences from other charecters etc), and otherwise also has a bit more footage after the credits!

So overall, quite good, not the best movie ever, but by far not the worst superhero movie of all time either. Worth a watch!

    8/10

Same here, had a rough idea to the whole mythology as well and I thought it was really good too, the way they manage to shift the movie from Asgard to Earth and back etc is handled well considering the need to integrate this movie into the slightly more realistic Iron Man & Incredible Hulk world.

    Visually it

  4. Right, Scream 4 then. I'm not doing spoiler tags as I'm in fast reply so deal with it. Just to reiterate;

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS HERE SO SCROLL DOWN PAST THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT A REALLY BAD FILM SPOILED.

I've shortened your post Seven and good read on Scream 4 that's just reiterated my intentions to never EVER watch this tosh.

The trailers were so boring which just added to the lack of interest.

I cannot wait for Thor though, IGN gave it a positive review.

  5. Fuck knows if you can still find this at a reasonable cost as mine's on the Hong Kong Legends label, but well worth having a butchers on eBay for, particularly if you like watching guys like Samo and Yuen Biu in their prime, during a period when wirework was unfashionable.

Yeah, Hong Kong Legend DVDs are very valuable and rare, I've got around 80% of the whole library.

There's a couple of DVD stalls on our market that tend to have HKL DVDs on there, and still at

  6. To balance this, I watched Knockabout. Early kung fu movie, notable for being Yuen Biu's first leading role. Plotwise, it's typical late 70s fare, Somewhere between Drunken Master and Mad Monkey Kung Fu, with Samo Hung in a role that is practially Beggar So/Sam Seed.

Where this excels - as might be expected - is Yuen Biu showing off. He's generally great in everything, but by fuck does Samo put him through his paces in this one. Great leg work, a variety of kung fu styles, and some exceptional acrobatics - even by Yuen Biu's standard.

I suggest topping up on the Cine Asia DVDs that are available because they'll be pretty scarce soon as well and very expensive.

Also I picked up Sword of the Stranger anime DVD for around

  7. I'm glad they pretty much gave the game away this week with that video. Using 'Ain't No Grave' and getting rid of the rumble noise seems to be WWE consciously setting the record straight.

'Takers act is so tired though. Yawn.

    Agree with both points above.

I think another change in personality/attitude is needed to rejuvenate the character - Those matches with Kane were so unbelievably shit and boring I think some fans (including myself) are having a hard time getting excited about his return on this occasion.

  8. I still find it uncomfrtable sitting in a packed cinema during a sex scene though. :(

Watched Faster last night. Was actually very good, and really enjoyable. The Rock was oozing charisma and commanded the screen, and whether he likes it or no, R Rated action is his niche. Billy Bob was very good in it too...I'll be watching it again.

If only just for this amazing hairdo

  9. New Superman cast

Henry Cavill has been chosen to play Superman in Zack Snyder's upcoming Man of Steel reboot.

The 27-year-old British actor has starred in TV series The Tudors and movies The Count Of Monte Cristo, Stardust and Whatever Works.

Previous actors to have played Superman on screen include George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain and Brandon Routh.

Director Zack Snyder said of Cavill's casting: "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time, and I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen.

"I also join Warner Bros, Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.

  10. For all you Kung Fu fans, finally got round to watching Ip Man 2.

With Donnie Yen in fine form as always and Sammo popping up too.

All the fights are amazing; there is a point to them, with Yen squaring off against Sammo on small table being the highlight fight.

Sammo once again does the fight choreography.

The makers have obviously decided to hold off from introducing Bruce Lee until the third movie but you do get to see a young Bruce turning up at the end.

Fans have said part 2 was disappointing but I disagree
