  1. Akira has received the green light.

Warner Bros has confirmed the live-action adaptation of the classic manga, which has been plagued by problems and delays since its conception.

Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund has been cast in the leading role, with Unknown's Jaume Collet-Serra still attached to direct, according to Variety.

The adaptation, which has been plagued by budgetary issues, previously had a host of high-profile actors rumoured for the lead role, including James Franco, Zac Efron, Keanu Reeves and Robert Pattinson.

Katsuhiro Otomo's manga series, which was famously adapted as an anime in 1988, follows the adventures of biker gang leader Kaneda as he attempts to rescue his friend Tetsuo from the government, which has kidnapped him to study his latent psychic powers.

The original cyber-punk setting of 'Neo-Tokyo' will reportedly be changed to 'New Manhattan' for the remake.

In my opinion Garrett Hedlund is up there with Channing Tatum in the worst actor ever category.

  2. Live action Gantz! Out next month.

Just don't compare it to the hardcore violent/sexual antics of the anime, this is only a 15 certificate afterall but hopefully it'll be a decent movie first of all.

  3. I'm looking to get a new phone, and want to stay with Android so the Galaxy II, Xperia Arc or Desire HD are the ones I'm looking at. However, a lot of people have got Blackberrtw these days and its got me considering them.

What's the deal with Blackberrys? Why do so many people swear by them?

Due for an upgrade soon - all signs point to the Galaxy SII, from the reviews I've read (and I've read a lot) this is THE standout phone in a very crowded marketplace filled with quality phones.

HTC Sensation would be my second choice.

BTW - Anyone else not own a single product by Apple? Or is it just me?

  4. Here are some that haven't been mentioned and my personal favs.

Basilisk is the best anime I have ever seen. Period.

EDIT: A series about two warring ninja clans with incredible abilities.

This movie has everything with the biggest bastard of a villain I’ve ever seen.

Cannot recommend this enough, more people need to see this.

Whisper of the Heart is amazing and Ghilbli's most underrated movie. It's very slow paced and not an adventure as such, more of a coming of age type movie.

Grave of the Fireflies is absolutely heartbreaking and I struggle to watch that.

Gantz is extremely over the top, extreme violence full of horny teens and sex with the weirdo level amped up to 11.

Ergo Proxy best animation I have seen with a challenging and complex story and characters and a fantastic opening theme - Blade Runner but far more dark and disturbing.

Samurai Champloo is also worth a watch, samurai era action series fused in with hip hop and it works incredibly.

Fist of the North Star 1980s classic - blood and violence.

Sword of the Stranger - out of the new animes, this one stood out personally, amazing art style, epic music and a decent story makes this a good one to watch.

Monster City - demons invade Toyko and take it over. Old favourite.

Winds of Amnesia - a huge gush of wind wipes out 99% of the worlds populations memory - very good movie.

Wicked City - demons live amongst humans, full of violence and sex.

  5. BBC reporter at Highbury Magistrates Court tells BBC 5 live the first person who appeared in the dock this morning was a 31-year-old teacher called Alexis Bailey. She pleaded guilty to being part of the looting of the Richer Sounds store in Croydon.
  6. It's superb. He was pulling up right next to rioters as they were being arrested.

Yeah it was incredible viewing, pretty much shamed Sky News & BBC coverage in Birmingham.

Although I'm gutted I missed the footage when they gave a copper a lift to an area who proceeded to nick 4 scumbags

  7. 3 lads killed in Birmingham after been hit by a car. Dad of one of them was on 5 live. Heartbroken, obviously, but said he was a good lad, 21, worked as a mechanic and never in any trouble. Which means he was either an innocent bystander or rioting was out of character.

Very sad news, looking at Sky News at around 7am - the reporter at the hospital said those killed were 2 were brothers and the other man was their cousin.

They were defending their car wash business from the idiots when a car mounted a pavement and ploughed into them

Two people seen exiting the car and legging it.

Last I heard was that Police have arrested one male over it and are questioning him.

  8. EDIT: Earlier initial Police statment on the 26 yr old.

  9. Sky News now saying these fuckers are trying to break into peoples homes in Ealing.

From some of the comments I've been reading on other forums Ealing Broadway is being hammered.
