  1. Bowe Holyfield legendary nights documentary - if this was the story from a film people would say it's far fetched. Very highly recommend to watch this. Sky, ITV or BBC need to do some of these for great british fights from the past.

How do people think Mccloskey will get on against Prescott tomorrow evening? I think Mccloskey will be on his toes much like Mitchell was against him and maybe take it on pts.

  2. I watched it on sky sports, was a very good fight. I thought Hall looked in command the first few rounds despite Jim Watts commentary, then came round 5 or 6 Mcdonell started landing some quality body shots and from then on he bossed the fight. Although it was the first fight of the season, i do not think it will be FOTY.

On a side note, i think Bellow looks well like Evertons Jack Rodwell - to ferrell Scousers

  3. That Alex Reid photo is so wrong. Was his last fight a set up? i read an interview with that kong bloke who fought him last saying it was a set up.

Watched Ringside the other night, of to a great start with the 4 world champs appearing on it - Froch, Cleverley, Burns and Khan.

I think Burns should be a bigger star than he is with his likeable personailty, especially in Scotland, he came across as a gent as he always does. Cleverley is a future British great, the man is a beast, he looks huge but wears dodgy clobber.

Froch didnt appear in the studio due to his other commitments in promoting the Ward fight.

The funny thing for me was when they were asking Khan about the domestic scene and he was saying how he keeps an eye on it etc.... and even though they had just showed a promotional video of Hatton hyping 3 of his fighters for future (including scott quigg) Khan repeatidly said that he tipped big things for scott quinn. He also tipped Britain to have 8 world champs by the end of the boxing season.

Looking forward to watching some of those Gatti rucks posted above - cheers.

In Boxing Monthly this month there is a good article on Michael Watson.

Tyson Furys opponent still hasnt yet been named for the 17th Sep, the latest name to be rumoured is - journeyman Nicolai Firtha (20-8-1, 8 KO

  4. those atlas clips are quality.

Cleverley v Bellew is now set for 15th Oct, the same night as Dawson v Hopkins

hears hopkins with buncey - buncey is a top bloke, his setanta show was classic.

  5. Are they doing a 48hours programe on The Gatti Case? I watch that 48 hrs on the crime channel anyway and it's really interesting.

I just read on another sight that Bellow might be fighting Cleverly on the 29th Oct - the same night Froch fights Ward. Bellow Cleverley will be on Sky - If they do fight and I'm assuming Froch Ward will be as well. Not sure if they will try and bundle it together and make it PPV

  6. Yeah, I remember watching it live. Had to do the washing up so that my mum would let me watch it. Never missed a Tyson fight, Central TV was the balls, we were ahead of everyone else on Cell Block H as well. "Lets see what you learned in those massage parlours eh lassie"

    Is that you Jeff?

  7. Guerrero v Maidana isn't happening now as Guerrero has pulled out with a shoulder injury. GBP are looking for a replacement to fight Maidana - boxing news24. I thought Guerrero would have beat him as well. Would like to see Khan fight Guerrero.

  8. Yeh it was on sky sports as far as i remember, i watched the replay on sky sports at 9 the next morning - they had the 24/7 on sky sports as well..

mayweather v gatti and holyfield v quawi was on espn today. Mayweather never looked better than in that fight in my opinion. That was the quickest i had seen him, he was fighting at 139lb though. Holyfield looked wicked as well - can't believe the fight was 25 years ago, i remember reading the review of that fight when i was younger.

  9. Newly crowned British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury could be facing Canadian champion Neven Pajkic in his next bout after negotiations fell through with Martin Rogan.

A fight between Kell Brook and Polish welterweight Rafal Jackiewicz has been finalised. This fight could propel Brook to a major world title shot if he gets past the once defeated ex Pole. Jackiewicz is an ex European champion and is ranked number 5 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

boxing news 24 got that of.

  10. vintage eubank.

sky sports boxing season starts around early sep, so i would assume most of them fights after that would be on there. Degale is fighting around then as well, i hope thats on then. Personally i think Guerrero will beat Maidana. I would love to see him fight Khan, i think he would walk through alot of Khans punches and get to him late. Read alot of interviews and articles about Kahn recently saying how good he is, personally i think in his career he has fought one good fighter and that was Maidana, other than that he hasnt done shit. He is very good to watch though. But until he fights, bradley, guerrero i dont realy rate him. He seems to be around very good business people who match him very carefully. GBP is copying the Vince Senoir business model in the fact they will pick an ethnic fighter and push him to the moon no matter what. Saying that, the Ginger Mexican is who is young and had about 45 odd fights already does look special.

  11. Macklin has turned down a rematch with Sturm due to not getting eough cash, says hes planning on fighting in America now to make a name for himself there. Would love to see him and Barker, think Barker would beat him and also think Barker will do alot better against Martinez than people think.

  12. I think Ortiz is made for Mayweather much like Hatton was. I think Floyd will pick him off at will. I really do hope Ortiz does land on Mayweather though. But i can see Floyd winning this very comfortably maybe even a late stoppage. But my predictions in boxing are normally wrong!

Pretty boy Bam Bam - is he the very young lad? i think i'v seen the clip somewhere. I'm at work and do not want to risk typing that into google!

  13. The Mayweather Ortiz fight is being offered to Primetime before Sky, so if they take the offer - which i imagine they will the fight will be PPV. In Boxing Monthly last month it had an interview with the bloke who runs Primetime and for them to make a profit on a fight being shown on PPV it did not have to achieve a massive number of buys, i cant remember the figure of the top of my head.

It also says SKY are reducing the number of PPV boxing it offers after the last 2 Haye fights have been less than pleasing and also with the Khan situation before the Mccloskey fight. This has to be a good thing with Warren, Hearn and Hatton all tied in with SKY. The only downside i guess is maybe more of the Golden Boy Promotions fights will be on Primetime PPV instead of Sky Sports.

  14. ESPN Classics showed some early Naz fights and he looked quality. Think might have been his first 2. I thought Naz was a great fighter but i didn't like his personality. To me he came across as a bit of a dick, when i say dick i mean unlikeable and I think the British public got tired of his attitude.

Where as Eubank was no doubt arrogant, I found him to be less offensive and still quite likeable.

    There

  15. The fighter which I've heard this old chestnut used with, is Mike Tyson. His supporters just cannot accept that he was not a GREAT fighter, but a very very good one. If you weren't in fear of him, and fought like you weren't in fear of him, then it was going to be a long night for Iron Mike. They have an excuse for every fight he lost ; the Buster Douglas defeat was because of his marriage and turmoil surrounding him, the first loss to Evander Holyfield was apparently because Tyson wasn't the same guy who he was before he went to Jail, and of course, Lennox Lewis would've been wheeled out on a stretcher had they fought in 1987.

1- Buster Douglas just put in the performance of a lifetime, he had the skills to beat anybody but he was lazy and didn't want it. However, losing his Mother a little while before the fight allowed him to put a whoopin on Mike. He took Mike's best shots, even getting up after than savage uppercut knockdown. He was better on that night, simple as that. However, you don't judge a fighters career on one night, you look at how consistent they were and the standard of opposition, along with a few other things.

2- Tyson's excuse makers forget a few important things ; Tyson, while he did not have Kevin Rooney, who was important to Tyson, he was still capable of all the exact same moves and executing the same tactics which made him look so invincible from 85-89, and lastly....Evander himself had been through 3 damaging fights with Riddick Bowe from 92-95, he was meant to be nothing more than heavyweight cannon fodder for Tyson and was labelled "shot" by everyone, he had been through a battle with Hepatitis C, and had suffered from some sort of heart disorder which left it enlarged. There were fears for Holyfield, geniune ones. However, he went in, took all of Tyson's best punches (go back and take a look if you don't believe me), Tyson did everything to Holyfield that night which he would've done if it was 1988. Holyfield was just a better fighter. Holyfield = Great fighter. Tyson = very very good.

3 - I'll admit Tyson was a shell of his former self when he fought Lewis, but Lennox was no spring chicken himself, although a lot closer to his prime than Mike. I'm of the belief that Lewis would've always beat Tyson no matter when. Great telephone pole like jab, booming right cross and a sickening uppercut all spelled bad news for Tyson, but that's all speculation.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Tyson as much as anyone, but it's ridiculous when people say "he's the greatest heavyweight ever", and even "he's the best fighter who ever lived"....it's all opinion, but that's just absolute rubbish. To be great, you need longevity, Tyson had five good years.

Whilst we are on the subject....greatest fighter who ever lived? Well, it's all opinion, but I don't think anyone can seriously dispute that Sugar Ray Robinson was the man. For me, there's Ray Robinson, and then there's everyone else.

    He was flawless.

    ------------------

Yeah, you're right. But almost everyone picked Tszyu to beat Hatton, and easily. So it's easy to say now that Kostya was finished, but as Buncey says "SHOW ME YA BETTIN SLIP THEN SAN!!".

    Look, we all know that the young guys always end up picking on the old guys, but the problem with Khan was he did an interview for somewhere, I forget the publication or website, but it was quite mainstream, so it was heavy shit when he said ;

"Boxing is all about fighting the right guys at the right time, you fight them when they are finished and washed up, so you fight guys who you know you will beat, not because you're a better fighter, but because of the situation, and you stick it on Pay Per View so you make the most money on it."

Yes, he actually said that. Sometime last years. Richard Shaeffer and De La Hoya of GBP were reportedly furious, too right aswell.

    ------------------

The whole argument of "if he was in his prime", "he's damaged goods" etc.....it's a load of hypocritical bollocks. You get these so-called "experts" who love to harp on about the days when a loss didnt signal the end of a fighter's career, and they were allowed to re-build and come back stronger. Yet these same guys, when, for example....Manny Pacquiao bashed Miguel Cotto up. When Manny won, after the fight, all I heard was "Cotto isn't the same fighter he was before Margarito, he's damaged goods". Well, that's one loss on an otherwise fantastic record of a guy who was a brilliant amateur, and about 4 years ago was the guy who everybody claimed Mayweather was avoiding. One loss in a tough fight, against a guy who probably had loaded hand wraps, and they write him off, and dis-count Pacquiao's win, by saying that Cotto wasnt the same man he was. Yeah, Cotto took a good bashing in the Margarito fight, but look at the Pacquiao fight ; he was very very highly competitive for the first four rounds, the best four rounds I've seen for years, with both fighters operating on an incredibly high skill level at the same time. If Cotto was "damaged goods", or "not the same guy" then he wouldn't of been anywhere near as competitive as he was in that fight until Manny turned up the heat, if he was a shot fighter, you can bet that a fighter with the speed and firepower of Pacquiao would've took care of him within 2 rounds. Then there's what Cotto has done after the Pacquiao fight, he's had some good wins, headlined the first show at the new Yankee Stadium.

For anyone who might be interested, I'll be posting my review of the boxing season of 2010/2011, later on tonight. There will be imaginary awards, hyperbole, and ruthless burial of those who provided the absolute most shitty-arse parts of this season. I'll be doing it later on tonight, so....have a butchers.

Will do. Excellent posts on here.

  16. The Mccloskey fight did not help with Khans image over here, especially his less than humble interview after it. But from what i seen of the fight lastnight he looked very impressive. Fast as Fuck. Khan would give anybody problems, that includes Mayweather. One writer from Boxing Monthly has been saying he would fancy Khan to beat Mayweather over Pacquio. Personally i think neither would, but they would be very interesting fights.

Furys a heavy, do not really rate him but he is a great charachter, same as Chisora. He's in rubbish shape though.

I like Price - Lanky Scouser, he has looked quality in his last 2 appearances and is fighting Big Bad John Mcdermott next on Halloween night apparently.
