was announced on this week's Weighing In podcast that Bellator are in the process of sorting out a rankings system, about time!

I only flick through that podcast most weeks, but I did hear that part.

I immediately thought of you 😄

  2. Coker on why he didn't sign Werdum:

    Quote

“His goals and his desires were different than our goals and our desires,” Coker told MMA Junkie after the Bellator 253 ceremonial weigh-ins at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. “I’m happy for him. If we wanted him to be here and have a fight with Fedor, we could do that. But that’s really probably the only fight that we’d be interested in. I think he was looking at a longer-term deal – multi-year, multi-fight.

“If you look at our roster and the fighters that we’re signing and the direction of the company (and) where it’s headed with the bluechip prospects and building the next crop and buying some free agents like Corey Anderson and sprinkling in some talent, I just think Fabricio has a better home there than he would’ve here.”- - https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2020/11/mma-news-scott-coker-why-bellator-turned-down-fabricio-werdum

They have also parted ways with Rampage, thank fuck.

  3. Brook did some good work in the opening rounds.

However, as the commentators said, Crawford is a slow starter, similar to Loma and Usyk in that regard. You just knew that Crawford was going to adjust eventually, and he did. Although I did expect the bout to last a bit longer.

  4. I like how Bellator's main cards only run for 2 hours.

I don't like MMA shows to run longer than 3 hours, especially in the current climate where we are bombarded with fights every weekend and the sport is a bit overexposed. And given that Bellator is running weekly shows at the moment, and have a smaller roster than the UFC, it makes sense for them to run shorter main cards. If they ran 3 hour cards, the viewers would have to endure a lot more filler and regional talent, more so than they do already.

Let's hope for more shows like Bellator 251 in the future. Next week's show looks very promising on paper.

  5. Ed Gallo wrote the following just before Amosov fought Storley:

    Quote

His (Storley's) top game is promising. Storley utilizes the leg mount, cross-wrist and Iowa rides on top, keeping an anchor on at least one leg to begin to set up dangerous ground and pound positions. On top he has a nice feel for keeping his opponents flat, this is the strongest part of his game at the moment.

If a wrestler really is the stylistic ideal to beat Yaroslav Amosov, I do believe that Storley will be a better test than Ed Ruth was. He is much more intentional about getting to his attacks, and Amosov did give up a few positions throughout the fight. From what I’ve seen, Storley’s top game is much more developed and control-focused at this point - he may be able to make those opportunities count. - https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2020/11/12/21558365/wrestling-breakdown-undefeated-welterweight-yaroslav-amosov-defeated-ed-ruth-bellator-mma

    He wasn't wrong.

Still, I am very excited about Amosov's career going forward.

  6. Fedor vs Werdum 2 is not happening now:

    Werdum:

    Quote

“I didn’t close the deal with Bellator because they wanted me to rematch Fedor Emelianenko in my first fight. I respect Fedor a lot. I can’t say he turned the fight down, but this negotiation with Fedor didn’t go through because of their side. Bellator wanted that to be the first fight to cause an impact, then we would close a deal for four or five more fights.

“I’ve also heard that Ali Abdelaziz (Werdum’s manager) has been talking with the PFL and I might join their tournament. I don’t know if people know it that well in Brazil, but it’s like a tournament. You enter, you fight four times and if you win those four fights, you win one million dollars, plus your purse. You win the purse that’s been previously established and the one million dollars. That made me pretty interested. It’s good, right?” - https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2020/11/13/21563179/43-year-old-fabricio-werdum-negotiating-with-pfl-sees-himself-fighting-two-more-years

I’d still prefer him over Corey Anderson though.

You'd probably prefer the corpse of the Yorkshire Ripper in Bellator over him 😉

But aye, Anderson does nothing for me either. I only wanted him signed so that Nemkov has someone decent to fight after Davis.

I agree about Mighty Mouse btw, I would like to see him in Bellator.

I did some reading about the Asakura/Horiguchi thing - I didn't know their fight was non-title! It seems Asakura's most recent fight was non-title as well. Seems an odd thing for a promotion to do. Makes sense for pro-wrestling, as there's only a story to push, plus they have matches way more frequently than real fighters do, but in proper sporting competition? I don't see the point of it.

    It's a Japanese thing.

Gomi lost to Aurélio in Pride while LW Champion, but the fight was non-title, so he remained champion. A ton of Fedor's fights in Pride while he was recognised as their HW Champion were also non-title.

  8. Horiguchi vs Kai 2 was only confirmed in the early hours of this morning.

As for Anderson, I am glad to hear that Coker and co are not interested in signing him. Bellator have relied too much on nostalgia acts over the years. I don't mind the odd Fedor or Cyborg fight, but I am happy they parted ways with Nelson and Mir, and I hope they don't use Manhoef and Rampage again. If those lot want to fight elsewhere, possibly in Rizin, One, or one of those daft Bareknuckle promotions, then fine, go nuts. But I would rather they not clog up Bellator's main cards in 2020.

Bellator have recently invested in a lot of young talent from England, Eastern Europe and the LFA promotion in the US. I would much rather those fighters feature on Bellator's main cards instead.

i dont know if Bellator has any association with Rizin anymore. Horiguchi obviously vacated his belt, and with Covid i cant see anyone going over for New Years.

Last I heard, Bellator's door is still open to Horiguchi.

In an ideal world, he sparks Asakura on NYE and then fights Archuleta in Bellator next year.

  9. Main card bouts start at midnight.

Bit nervous about the Amosov vs Storley bout. Coker and the Bellator matchmakers aren't giving Amosov a particularly easy time this year. Storley is a high-risk, low-reward, match-up for him.

I don't get the raging boner that some get over Pitbull, but I hope he sparks Carvalho.

Watched this the other day. It's a decent run through of Lewis's career, helped along by an impressive array of talking heads.

While he wasn't invincible, I'd still take prime Lewis over the top 3 heavyweights of today, especially Joshua and Wilder.

Canelo Alvarez has come to an agreement to face unbeaten Callum Smith in December on DAZN in Texas. ESPN Deportes is reporting the news of Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) and WBA Super World super middleweight champion Smith (27-0, 19 KOs) reaching a deal for a fight that could be taking place on December 19th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Hopefully Gallagher will stop moaning for a few months now.
