Is there any chance that BJS is the middleweight Tyson Fury (undefeated Traveller boxer that everyone's seeing as a bit of joke against real opposition, but then surprises everyone by out-boxing a super-puncher), and that we're writing him off at our peril?

It's probably the opposite. Some overrate BJS because of his association with Fury.

He's far from a bum, but he poses little threat to Canelo.

  2. If possible, I wouldn't mind seeing Canelo vs GGG 3. GGG looked decent on Friday evening, even if he is clearly past his prime.

The current 168lbs division is pretty weak. I would be very surprised if Plant or BJS gave Canelo any issues.

Shit, I forgot all about this being on DAZN. I’ll get subscribed. It’s only a couple of quid, isn’t it?

Aye, £1:99 per month and you can cancel at anytime.

So you essentially get GGG's fight tomorrow, Canelo vs Smith on Saturday night, and Garcia vs Campbell next month for a few quid. Bargain.

  4. Decided to subscribe to DAZN UK for this weekend's big fight.

The fight itself is win-win. Either Joe "Every Dog Has Its Day" Gallagher gets humbled, or Canelo finally loses.

As it stands, I think Canelo wins easily. I don't rate Smith that highly.

  5. I wish Romero would have moved to light heavyweight a few years back. I think he would have wasted everyone in UFC's 205lbs division other than Jones.

Rumble is the obvious match-up for him in Bellator. I also wouldn't mind seeing him against Anglickas.

Wow Bellator really is becoming the TNA of the MMA world aren't they.
I was having the discussion about MMA with someone on my facebook yesterday and they agreed Bellator is really hit and miss in terms of good fights and whatnot, But he also said there are other decent MMA promotions out there that aren't trying there hardest to be a UFC ripoff.

    Eh?

This point would have made sense a year ago.

But recently, Coker has mostly been signing prospects from the LFA and European promotions. They have parted ways with the likes of Rampage, Nelson, Mir, etc and wisely passed on signing Werdum and Anderson Silva.

As for whether Bellator should sign the UFC's fighters that are about to be released, it depends on who they are. If washed up fighters such as Derrick Lewis, Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, or Shogun Rua receive their walking papers, then Bellator should probably pass on signing them. But if say Islam Makhachev or Gregor Gillespie become available, two up-and-coming fighters who could beef up their lightweight division, I wouldn't be against Coker signing them.

Outside of that night he danced around a gun-shy Wladamir Klitschko, is Fury really that elusive though? genuine question. (granted it was likely Fury's performance/headgames that lead to Wladamir's weird performance).

I think Fury's movement would have always given Wladamir problems, head games or not.

Wasn't it Steve Cunningham who dropped him last before the Wilder fight? In 2013? Almost seven years ago?

    Yes.

Fury had issues outboxing Cunningham, so decided to try and walk him down. He got greedy in one exchange and was caught for his troubles.

Fury considers Cunningham to be his toughest fight to date:

    Quote

"Believe it or not, this is going to sound strange, Cunningham was the hardest fight I ever did have in my whole career, amateur or professional. The reason being he was very slippery, I couldn’t pin him down. He was light on his feet, weighing 208lbs, he was a cruiserweight champion and he stepped up into heavyweights. He was a slick, talented boxer and I tried to walk him down, use my size and power, but he was just outboxing me What I’m good at – boxing, moving, slipping and sliding – I couldn’t do against Steve Cunningham because he was quicker than me. It was like he was a better boxer all round than me, and he’d knocked me over even though he was a light puncher.''

  8. I don't think Moreno did enough to win. I had Figgy winning rounds 1, 2 and 5, and Moreno clearly winning round 4. Round 3 could have been scored either way. So with the point deduction for Figgy, either 48-46 in his favour, or 47-47, were acceptable scorecards in my view.

I'd like to see Oliveira vs Gaethje next.

The Big Cat was fighting in Pride until '05.

Aye, but he had a 3 year hiatus between 2002 and 2005.

His return fight in February of 2005, in which he was lost to Werdum, was also his last with the promotion. Hence, it's understandable why Wand associated Ericson with Pride in the early 00s rather than the mid-00s. 4 out of his 5 fights with the promotion took place between 1999 and 2002.

I personally associate him with the excellent Pride FC video game which was released in 2003. His character was surprisingly piss-easy to beat IIRC.

What the main event like? My recording cut out in the 2nd round and I've only just read that Macfarlane lost the title! I'm gutted at that. Did she deserve to lose?

Nothing much happened in round 1, but most scored it for Velasquez. Velasquez clearly won rounds 2 and 3. Macfarlene clearly won round 4 and arguably edged round 5.

Overall, the scorecards were pretty fair really.

Edit - 2003 sounds about right @jimufctna24, without looking up the cards my guess would be around the time of Fedor vs Fujita but I can’t remember if Erikson was still around by then. Could be late 2002.

Fedor didn't win the Pride HW title until March of 2003.

So I am pretty certain it was taken after that.
