  1. Enjoyed the , Harley Race, Chris Colt and Chris Adams ones. I’ve started fast forwarding past the intros (as it gives away the whole story) and it’s much more enjoyable and surprising.

Also never realised Stone Cold was married to a Brit and had kids with her.

The original source for you hearing that being... Hogan himself, in his book. Claiming he did it by design to make sure even though Warrior won, it would be his sportsmanship in defeat people remembered. He goes on further to say that as his little cart took him back to the locker room Warrior was in the ring celebrating but "nobody cared" which is obviously bollocks.

Hogan making stuff up is not a shock, but I wonder if he realized that claiming he engineered that moment, and his motivation, made him sound exactly like the selfish bastard everyone always says he was?

Only Hogan could make up a story to make himself look bad.

  3. Didn’t know where to pop this so here seems as good as any

Been watching the WWE Wrestlemania matches live stream over the past few days and Hogan vs Warrior, Wrestlemania VI came on. I’ve always heard that Hogan went into business for himself and grabbed the title and handed it over to Warrior to take the spotlight off him, and ego still might have been the reason, but it was definitely planned with Warrior ahead of time.

When Warrior wins Earl Hebner tries to give him both the Intercontinental and WWF championship, but Warrior only takes the Intercontinental and clearly tells Earl the WWF belt needs to go back.

Personally I was a Bret fan from a young age, but I think it was more down to thinking he was cool as fuck rather than buying into the 'excellence of execution' in-ring stuff. But totally get what you mean about the characters.

WWF Superstars/Challenge were the perfect shows for me as a kid really. You got the wrestlers making their entrances, a quick 2 min match and you got to see their usually cool finisher. Rinse and repeat, very little wastage.

I seemed to skip my teenage workrate period altogether. And while pay per views were great as culminations for feuds, truth be told, I usually found a lot of matches to be a bit long for my liking.

There have certainly been periods when I've questioned if I'm a fan of the actual wrestling at all, or simply the characters, pageantry and bollocks surrounding it.

Omg yes with the long matches. I enjoy the old Wrestlemanias so much more where some matches last about 5 minutes. Maybe it’s an attention thing. We have WWEADHD

  5. Bret Hart for me. I got into wrestling because of Hogan, Demolition, Beefcake and they were colourful and larger than life. Bret at the time did nothing for me. I used to love Summerslam 91 and watch it over and over but would often fast forward the Bret vs Perfect match.

As a kid I just found his matches too long and he wasn’t over the top enough for me. I couldn’t sing along to his music and I didn’t feel like he was giving the bad guys their comeuppance as he was the underdog. Loved it when Yoko beat him and Hogan won the belt back!

  6. I remember this happening and debating what they should have called it instead. My thoughts were either just WF (Wrestling Federation) or WWS (because it sounds like F) and called World Wrestling Sports. Although it looks more like some code for people into watersports in retrospect. Fancy some WWS fun?

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

  7. I remember in junior school Dean Ward delivered a DDT to Michael Buckle on the playground which knocked Buckle silly. He was knocked out for a bit and when he came to he had the imprint of the gravel and stones on his forehead. The dinner lady who looked like Pauline Quirke ran over and sent everyone away like Earl Hebner sending a manager to the back and then wrestling was banned at the school.

  8. Yokozuna faced Duggan in which Duggan knocked him over and I think that ended the match (so Yoko didn’t necessarily win?).

Also there’s a Saturday Nights Main Event I think in the run up to Earthquake v Hogan where Earthquake squashes Hillbilly Jim but Jim gets some offence in

Of course WWE would never manipulate those polls to suit their booking plans.

These aren’t official WWE polls. Just fan made ones. Although Cody could be sat at home constantly refreshing

  10. I keep up to date with the results and watch the big PPVs and obviously come on here A LOT! From what I have read on here it seems like Sami Zayn toppling Roman is the logical step. However when I’ve seen polls on social media for people to vote who they want as their next champ - Roman, Sami or Cody, Cody is getting by and far the most votes. Sami was even behind Roman.
So in terms of what the majority of casual fans want, it seems to be Cody.

So listening to the Regal Podcast about Finlay and I had to go back and re-watch this match. Allegedly the only thing gimmicked was the front bumper coming off.

Creasing at the bit where Heenan is talking about the brawl and says that’s how they do things in Britain.

“Elizabeth took Di out back and they had a big fight out in the parking lot one day”

  12. As much as I have never been a fan, Brets first run was successful in that it took him from midcard to headliner and cemented his place in the WWF. He was portrayed as a fighting champion taking on all comers. However in retrospect it wasn’t that long, but it felt like he’d been at the top for a while come Mania IX.

Then Yokos after was probably the worst first run for anyone. (Even though I loved Hogan and was so happy he won the belt).
