  1. But hey, you, like so many others, decided in advance that this album would be the soundtrack to your closeted little summer, so what can you do.

Maybe he genuinely likes the album? Just a thought.

  2. The Escapist is great, I seem to remember the ending splitting people at the time but I went with it and found it to be an effective conclusion.

Brian Cox is tremendous. I've recently been re-watching the Bourne films (Ultimatum is the best, Legacy the worst, none are bad) and he just adds a sense of weight and importance to every scene he's in. It's a shame he shares his name with that insufferable science muppet who seems to be all over TV lately.

  3. Frankenweenie

Tediously drawn-out and you don't care about anything or anyone in it. Not a disaster to the extent of Tim Burton's other recent works, but how this got widespread acclaim, I'll never know.

    Shit, isn't it?

I recently watched The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, which is much better than it's marketing would have you believe. From the trailers and advertising I thought it would be some shitty Twilight-esque film, but it's much more than that. A surprise hit for me.

I also watched Wake In Fright. Anybody seen this? It's also known as Outback in some places. An Australian film from the 70s, it's stayed with me for days and some parts are genuinely terrifying.

  4. Can I ask, how highly do people rate Brian Fallon here?

He's fast becoming an icon for me, in the same way Springsteen, Morrissey and Dave Grohl are.

I mean, I'd say Gaslight are the greatest straight ahead rock n roll band in the world right now but his side project, The Horrible Crowes are bloody excellent, too. Their album is a blues-y, Tom Waits-y masterpiece. The lead single Behold the Hurricane is a modern classic.

Annnnnnd, I've just discovered his demo's for an aborted solo project that are just beautiful.

Lyrically and musically, he's just ace.

I completely agree. He's up there with Springsteen for me in terms of musical heroes. Everything he does is just gold.

If you enjoyed the demos, you should check out his pre-TGA bands. This Charming Man, Cincinnati Rail Tie, Amping Copper and Surrogate McKenzie. There's also a demo of his own solo songs floating around which he recorded when he was 16 called The Coffeehouse Sessions which is poor quality but shows you how talented he was even then.

  5. To be fair, she only appears one month a year during X Factor's live shows. Every year around about now she releases a shitty single and then disappears for eleven months.

    Bleeding Love was good though.
