Ross
Long story short I'm looking to do my postgrad in the States. My girlfriend is looking to come over with me but would be looking for a job. Would she be able to get a visa to work out there (in an unskilled position) either self-funded or funded by the employer?
Moderators neil Posted July 22, 2011 Moderators Share Posted July 22, 2011 Your girlfriend would be considered her own entity. By that I mean she would have to arrange everything herself, the fact that you are there and are her boyfriend means nothing to the USCIS. Â Job wise....probably not going to be good news for her (also you, I'm assuming you know the restrictions on working as a student in the US!). If she is highly qualified/experienced then she might be able to have a company employ her under an H1-B visa - although this is probably unlikely. Â She could try and do the seasonal employment route, like BUNAC and so forth. Â What university are you going to?
Paid Members Kookoocachu Posted July 22, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted July 22, 2011 Out of interest, would this be different if they were married?
Moderators neil Posted July 22, 2011 Moderators Share Posted July 22, 2011 If they were married then she would be able to get an F-2 visa which means she can stay out there as long as he does. However, it doesn't allow you to work at all and you have to prove that you have the funds to support yourself.
