Vince McMahon hadn't run a wrestling company before WWE, the money mark.

Indeed he hadn't, yet before he bought it he had many years of experience in and around the industry due to his father, and his fathers close friends, running a successful wrestling territory for decades.

Not quite the same thing, in fairness.

Just a little bit of kind advice for you and this applies not just for posting on wrestling forums but for all life. Regardless of whatever point you're making and whether what you're saying is right or wrong - saying stuff like "treacle, calm your tits" makes you come across as a COMPLETE DICKHEAD and no one will care from that moment onwards what the actual point you're trying to make is.

It was intended to be light hearted but I see it's bothered you so, my apologies.

You clearly have no clue what a money mark is, you have just heard someone say it and parroting it. Dearie me this is a bit desperate, mute it is

He had the same level of experience running a wrestling company as Dixie Carter had prior to her running TNA (i.e none).

I'm sure he's a lovely guy and means well but he, much like Dixie before him, is a clueless money mark.

As for AEW turning a profit, no, with the expenses for the video game, music rights for certain songs and the inflated contracts they hand out I think there is not a chance in hell they have turned a profit. I'm happy to be proved wrong, however.

My favourite fact about Lacey Evans is how when Lacey Lane (who goes by Lacey in real life) was starting to get regular appearances on NXT, they changed her name from Lacey Lane (which sounds a bit like a pornstar) to avoid confusion with existing Lacey (who doesn't go by Lacey in real life), to Kayden Carter - which sounds even MORE like a pornstar's name, in fairness. Real "Garrison Cade" vibes. "Fuck her, we've already got a Lacey, call her Kayden."

'It could confuse the audience, pal'.

Calling him a clueless money mark like he’s gonna end up on the street after being carnied out his last dime is just silly

Never said that, treacle, calm your tits.
Nobody's making Tony destitute out of this but he is a clueless money mark.

Unlike other promotions run by money marks though, AEW has actually been successful.

So I honestly don't give a fuck how much Sniff is paying out.

How are you defining 'success' because if it's 'turning a profit' then that's a big no.
If it's that you and other people like it, well, that's hard to argue - although on that criteria TNA was successful at one point too.

Is that really anymore or less true than it was in 2019?

Oh, it's absolutely no less true than it was 2019 but the public narrative has certainly changed from 'These guys really want to make the business better for everyone' to 'These guys are clearly just bilking this clueless billionaire of as much money as they can'. It was ALWAYS the latter, it's just less people were inclined to say/believe it in 2019.

Who the fuck wouldn't try and milk their boss for all they can?

Even Randy Orton pretended he was interested in going to AEW to get more money out of Vince.

Not saying it's a bad thing, just saying it's classic pro wrestling.

Everybody loves the company they work for as long as the massive cheques they are getting still clear.

It’s incredibly stupid. I can’t say I disagree with Punk on this one.

I tend to agree. I’m wondering if the anti-Punk camp leaked a bunch of stuff on the back of the Hangman comments.

Whatever the case, so much of this strikes me as childish, and not just from Punk’s side.

I think that's the thing - BOTH sides are being incredibly childish, it's just the Bucks, Matt Hardy, etc do it by feeding stories to Meltzer so they can go 'I've never said anything about Punk myself...'. Same with the Britt Baker - Thunder Rosa stuff.

If people think it's just Punk that's the problem they are not seeing the bigger picture.
As with any toxic work environment, it starts at the top. AEW is WCW in the late 90's all over again with overpaid talent who have too much power and don't have to do anything they don't want to do, while management are busy putting themselves over and saying 'There's nothing to see here'

As has been said, Wembley is papering over a lot of cracks. People are starting to open their eyes and see that AEW is just another promotion where the wrestlers are milking the clueless money mark for all they can.

    It's a shame.

  9. I'm really split over the main event.

I have no issue with death match wrestling. I enjoy it and have been to several death match shows.

It just felt.... excessive and unnecessary.

I suppose it's an unfair comparison but I think back to War Games 92 and how intense it was and just feel like this was 'shock for the sake of shock'.

It felt cheap and made me think 'where can they possibly go from here?'.

I dunno. I struggle to put thing into words sometimes but I really hated this and felt embarrassed for everyone involved.

  10. Poor Kross

Why do I think Vince is going to have him start 'questioning himself' only to have Scarlett produce the gimp mask and S&M gear as 'the source of his power' or some bullshit just so he can go 'My vision was right all along, pal!'.

  11. Nuts to anyone complaining about how petty Punk is. I love it. I want more of my wrestlers to be pricks - and make no mistake the Elite are just as big a set of pricks as Punk - and take childish potshots at each other.

I loved it with Bret and Shawn and I love it now.

  12. Roman just oozes 'superstar' doesn't he?

We need to enjoy him while we can because Hollywood no doubt beckons for the handsome bastard sooner rather than later.

He's just light years Infront of his peers when it comes to how he carries and presents himself.

Credit to WWE too as they haven't done a storyline this layered and engaging possibly ever. I keep thinking they will fuck it up and they haven't (yet).

    Great TV.

That's simply untrue, maybe if you said this a few months back but the shows are very good right now with multiple interesting angles starting on or after the PPV.

Perhaps I should have added 'in my opinion' to that post.

  14. Punk's posted twice on Instagram in 9 months about the whole thing while Meltzer, Alvarez, Jericho and others have continually had their say (and the Elite had a platform to mock the whole thing o TV), I say let the fella vent. It's infinitely more interesting than anything else AEW is doing at the minute.

You've got the scripted storylines on Dynamite absolutely COOKING. This shoot stuff is so uninteresting in comparison to all the intrigue going on in the BCC/Elite/Callis epic saga.

Sadly, this weeks ratings say otherwise.
