  1. It sounds like he had a really shit life, but still.

The most shocking thing is that, at the time he was commissioner for UCW when I was wrestling there, he was only 35. I thought he was much older! He once asked us - a heel tag-team - to carry a new drink his brother-in-law was developing to the ring. We tried to explain that heels don't do that stuff but he was adamant. We "forgot" them. The drink turned out to be Pomegreat, and became quite a big thing. Still, heels. He also once put a photocopied picture of his face on every seat before a show, so that the crowd could hold them up when he came out. They didn't.

  2. LA is an odd one, Hsipanic-wise, because it has the double-whammy of having 1) Mexicans, and 2) Mexicans who can afford to go to wrestling shows. Florida is very Cuban and Texas, while, Mexican, doesn't have a tradition of Hispanics going to shows. Well, not since Jose Lothario retired.

  3. Can anyone explain Titanes en el Ring to me? Butch?

It was an Argentinean wrestling promotion which was built around the promoter, Martin Karadagian, fighting ever-more-ridiculous monsters, with his arch-nemesis (and later pal) being La Momia, a huge mummy resembling what WCW thought a Yeti looked like. It wasn't the best, work-wise, but it was tons of fun. Not much remains of it, because it was Argentina in the 60s & 70s, but there's a few things around.

  4. I always thought that the "Dingo Warrior", a name that the Ultimate Warrior used early in his career in Texas, was something to do with Australia, like some kind of weird Aboriginal facepaint or whatever. Well, you would, wouldn't you?

After reading Gary Hart's book, though, it turns out that Hart had this idea for two New York street toughs called Dingo & Socko, and thought Warrior would make a good Dingo. He couldn't find the right Socko so just added the word Warrior to Dingo and shoved him on TV.

  5. One thing that I forgot to say... it's refreshing that not everyone is on every week (if you can judge that by 2 weeks of a new broom). No Corbin or Ziggler this week, no Ambrose last week. It keeps things fresh if you can keep people off TV when they don't need to be on.

  6. Really enjoyed Raw again this week, that's 2 in a row now. There was a feeling that anything (within reason) could happen, and a genuine excitement to most of the segments. In addition, Styles vs Zayn is as good a TV match as you'll see.

The only negative, again, was Reigns. He was awful in his first talky bit and completely outshone by a babyface Bray Wyatt in the main event. Still, at least he wasn't all over the show, which is a marked improvement.

  7. I enjoyed it. I'm not one for going back and watching whole events again so it was great to see highlights of the matches from Takeover. And with the blood-wiping removed, the drama in Balor-Joe really came across. Oh, and the Zayn-Nakamura match! I like that they do this kind of thing once in a while, it's a nice change of pace, like that time WWE got snowed in and did that show from Stamford.

  8. Well, I enjoyed Raw! Part of my complaint about WrestleMania yesterday was that they didn't finish anything and, by extension, didn't set up anything going forward. This set up everything going forward, and most of the roster have a direction for once.

I am really ill with a sinus infection, though.
