  1. Yeah, Daaaad was posting that in response to Lorne Malvo saying Molina was a weak point whereas I'm pretty sure most would agree he was one of the stronger aspects of the film.

In relation to Spider-man 2, it's a tricky one. Each have their own merits and it depends on how you view it. If you asked me which one blew me away more on first viewing in the cinema, I would have to say Spidey 2. I remember walking out of that one completely gobsmacked and even to this day I've not had such a high after viewing a comic book film.

This all over for me! I think X-Men 2 was probably the closest prior to that. I do think others have come close though - the first two Nolan Batman films and, more recently, Winter Soldier have all had me leaving the cinema wanting to go right back and watch it again (although I would say that Dark Knight doesn't hold up to rewatches so well).

  2. I enjoyed Homecoming but I rewatched Spider-Man 2 last night and I still think that's the best we've had. Obviously the third film ruined Toby Maguire but I don't think he'd be looked back on as such a bad fit for the role if they'd stopped after the first two.

There's just so much more depth to the character in 2. You really get the feeling that he's struggling with the gravity of the situation and the responsibility that comes with having superpowers.

In Homecoming it just felt like he thought being a superhero was super cool and was more concerned with proving himself to/impressing Stark.

I have no issues with that at all to be honest. Lots of films do that, even big blockbusters so you must feel that way about a lot of films

Yeah, I find it really takes me out of it. In Bastille Day especially, it felt super low rent to me. I thought the way they did it in the last Bourne film was considerably better, although I think they probably just had several hundred extras to make it feel more real.

See also: the way they shot the ground battle in Independence Day Resurgence. At no point was my disbelief suspended enough that I was able to imagine the humans and the alien were a part of the same scene. I'm not even complaining that it's a bad film (it was, though) but for a production that cost $165M, there's no excuse for the way those scenes were shot to feel so cheap.

  4. I recently soft modded an original Xbox specifically to set it up to play retro games.

Modding is very easy: you just need one of several games that can be exploited, an Xbox USB reader, USB stick and a Windows PC (as a Mac user, this was the most annoying thing; you need to format your USB stick to be Xbox readable and the only software to do this is Windows only. Had to dig out a laptop that's about 12 years old).

You put a cracked game save and your dashboard of choice (typically an XMBC mod) on your USB stick, load the game, load the game save from the USB and that'll reboot your Xbox and install the mod.

Then, as long as your Xbox is connected to the internet, you can just FTP all the emulators and games onto it.

Here's where things get tricky. The emulators are very picky with what they recognise and the included documentation wasn't very informative. It's only from trawling forum posts that I eventually worked out that one I was using required the ROMs to be zipped as a single file per zip and that file named using only lower case letters.

Given the ROM pack I'd downloaded had multiple regional variations of every game in each zip archive, it was a pain in the arse having to redo them all.

Given I have a Mac Mini connected to my TV anyway, it would have been way quicker to just use that but I fancied taking the Xbox on as a project.

Wii Pro controllers were made for the Wii U weren't they? Wouldn't surprise me if they don't work with a standard Wii but Wii's do have GameCube ports so just use a GameCube pad, yeah?

  5. Just a thought - there's probably a lot of guys who Chikara would have been hoping to book for Trios who would now be wanting to do BOLA instead, presumably a lot of the British guys would be there again (although no idea how their WWE deals would work with that) so would it be more likely that Chikara change their dates instead? After changing venues already, it wouldn't go down well with people at all but the trade off would be a better line-up on another weekend.

  6. BOLA is a way, way bigger deal than KoT.

Although I was quite looking forward to seeing all three CCK lads together, I couldn't really blame Travis for taking the BOLA booking. Wonder who'd replace him at Trios...

  7. In my sig. I think they're up to date but I have sigs turned off and I can't be bothered to find where my sig is in the board settings to check.

Basically, I'm KonamiKode on everything (Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, Reddit) I tried to get it as my Facebook URL too but it was being used for a roleplay account for some Brony so I reported the account as a fake name and whilst they've taken the profile down, they haven't released the username. I don't play online but I was way late to the game on getting a PSN account and ended up with k0n4m1k0d3

  8. So, all the characters are based on the Archie comic characters but updated to be a modern day highschool with issues that are relatable to a modern audience.

Josie and The Pussycats is a fairly campy 90's chick flick about a girlband who feature in the comics and in the Riverdale series itself.

Though, I wouldn't say it's necessary to be familiar with either to enjoy the TV show, it's just particularly helping in her instance.

Based on recommendations in here, I started Riverdale last night. I hope it picks up, it feels like Dawson's Creek after ep 1.

My girlfriend's been watching it which means I've caught chunks of it. It does seem very Dawson's Creek to me, maybe a little bit edgier, but it hasn't caught my attention enough to actually sit down and watch it with her.

She loves the Archie comics though (to the extent that Josie and The Pussycats is one of her favourite films) so I imagine that helps to keep her interested.

  10. A guy I used to work with is Indian and married a blonde, Russian girl that he met whilst over there on holiday. They have two kids now and they're both very pale skinned. When he bought the first one into office just after he was born there was that whole awkward unease where no-one wanted to say "Er... Are you sure he's yours mate?" but as he grew up you could see the resemblance. Funny how things work out though.

Being half-Chinese and having two half-sisters from my dads first marriage, it's interesting to see how much each of us have inherited. My eldest sister just looks completely Chinese whereas me and my other sister are noticeably mixed race but people often don't place what my heritage is. I always get people guessing I'm a pacific islander or Maori. My friends parents still refer to me as the New Zealand baker after I baked her a cake once about 12 years ago.

You'll probably have more fun on that version too. It's hard to judge from a video of course, but it looks like they still haven't managed to replicate the immersive sense of freedom that SM2's web-slinging around skyscrapers created.

The developer has announced on Twitter that the web-slinging is physics based and the web must have a physical structure to connect to so that's very reassuring.

  12. Skyrim was in the pre-launch ad for the Switch so surely this has come as no surprise?

The "gameplay" footage (inverted commas because it's either macro-driven or the player is highly skilled) of the new Spider-Man game has got me hyped and made me want to dig out my PS2 and play that old Spider-Man 2 game.

It also lead me down a Wikipedia hole where I discovered that the developer of said Spider-Man 2 game also developed a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x which has all of the levels of the first two games, plus some new levels that I've never played, all in HD and is apparently far better than THPSHD which I thought was a huge let down.

So of course I immediately bought it on eBay.

Only released in the states but apparently it's on the Xbox 360 backwards compatible list and I have a soft-modded OG Xbox so hopefully I'll actually be able to play it once it turns up...

  13. Late to this but NXT are at Download this year and they do (or have done) rock festivals stateside as well. It's really no surprise that they're picking metal-esque songs as Takeover themes and intro music. They're they're pushing themselves as alternative and trying to appeal to that demographic.

Whilst they've definitely featured popular, up and coming bands on Takeover, I had no idea who Powerflo were. A quick glance suggests they're a newly formed super group featuring members of Biohazard, Downset, Fear Factory and Cypress Hill.

None of those bands are particularly relevant these days (aside from that Twitter conversation between Cypress Hill and the London Symphony the other day) but I would suggest that a record label exec probably gets in touch with WWE to get songs featured and they might want to push them as new act and get some eyes/ears on them.
