  1. Just watching the hogan anthology, in royal rumble 1991, who were the announcers. one of them sounds an awful lot like tony shivanoe (sp) did he ever work for the WWF and how lon gfor if soplus i remember him doing a little bit in early TNA as a hell what was his gimmick and why was it dropped

I know Tony Schiavone did do play by play for the WWF in the late 80s and very early 90s. He used to do commentary on PPVs with Jesse Ventura, although for the life of me I cannot remember which Royal Rumble he commentated on.
Schiavone definately did commentary on the 1990 Rumble. I don't think he did Rumble 91 though.
    From Wikipedia -

While affiliated with the Charlotte O's, he began as a wrestling announcer with Crockett's Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (later known as Jim Crockett Promotions, the precursor to World Championship Wrestling or WCW) in the early 1980s. When Jim Crockett Promotions got national television exposure on TBS Superstation in 1985, he was a regular host of the wrestling program. He was signed by Vince McMahon's WWF for a stint in 1989 and early 1990, but soon returned to Jim Crockett Promotions, which had been renamed WCW and was owned by media mogul Ted Turner.

  2. :yinyang: Are Deep South Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling WWE's only developmental territories?

They're the only official ones, but the WWE have sent wrestlers to Memphis before and recently Boogeyman was sent down to train at Booker T's school.
Harley Race's promotion (I Think it's WAW) and Dory Funk's Bang! TV are also non-WWE owned developmental territories. WWE also said that if Lance Storm gives a reccomendation, they'll give that wreslter a tryout automatically. Don't know how true that is.
Harley Race's group is WLW - World League Wrestling. A lot of WLW talent ends up in NOAH such as Wade Chism who is making his Japanese debut in November. Trevor Murdoch, who also toured NOAH, is an ex-WLWer who made it to WWE.logo2.jpg
  3. I am also going crackers because I seem to remember Tugboat being called Tugboat Taylor during a match against The Undertaker on one of those Supertape things. Did that happen?Thank you brahs.

There was another wrestling named Tugboat Taylor, who worked in Texas, most notably for GWF. He was the father of Chaz Taylor, who had a pretty well-received feud with Sean "Lightning Kid" Waltman. Chaz was a junior heavweight - his dad certainly wasn't...
The WWF version was orignally billed as Tugboat Thomas.
  4. The intro is from "Roll On" by Aussie punk outfit 'The Living End', he used to use the whole song as his ROH entrance, it's a cool song, worth checking out.His new theme is a recent Oasis track called "Wanking In The Bushes"

Could be wrong but shouldn't that be "Fucking In The Bushes"?!?!?If so, Oasis use that tune as their walk-on music too.
  5. Last night, I caught a bit of a NOAH match on The Wrestling Channel at about 5 AM. The two competitors were exchanging a series of chops for a number of minutes and the crowd was going absolutely wild for it. One of the wrestlers wore black trunks and the other was in blue and white. Can anyone provide more details on the match and who they are?

Kenta Kobashi (black trunks) vs Kensuke Sasaki from the July 18, 2005 NOAH Tokyo Dome show.
Thanks. I'm going out of my way to find more Kenta Kobashi matches now...
There are LOADS of great Kobashi matches to check out (AJPW, NOAH) but I suggest you get hold of Kobashi vs Samoa Joe from ROH (DVD is titled 'Joe vs Kobashi) next.DVD link -https://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp...187&id=1504

  7. Well, whilst not one of the ROH 'faithful' I can answer this for you. It wasn't an outdoor show per se, but ROH did a couple of spots for the morning news where they set a ring up down town and had bits a pieces of wrestling going on, while the reporters talked to workers and generally ran a piece on the company. They used these opportunities to run angles, the first around Low Ki Vs Aries and the second around Jacobs Vs Whitmer.

    Cheers... thanks for you help!
