  1. I disagree.

Case in point; the bit in this weeks episode where he grabbed the 'mic' and launched into that overblown, grandiose speech, essentially telling the incoming attackers that he is great and they should sod off. With Tennant's style being overt, cocky and somewhat arrogant that would have come off a bit dickish, whereas Smith's awkward, madcap, social outcast-ish style made it as cool as it had every reason to be. Same goes for the Weeping Angels speech which ended 'there's one thing that you should never, ever put in to a trap...ME'. With Tennant that would have come across as inexcusable cliched nonsense.

    Oh, and something else that was cool this season;

Kid: 'Are you scared of monsters...?'

    Doctor: 'No...They're scared of me.'

  2. The great thing about the Van Gogh episode was that it left with loads of reasons as to why he may have committed suicide, without feeling the need to arbitrarily point it out to you.

As for next weeks episode, it's called 'The Big Bang', which conjures up images of the universe being recreated all over again. I think it's going to be pretty epic.

I love Smith's doctor. This sounds stupid, but it feels like Who has forgotten, for too long, that essentially the lead character is an alien. At differing points in the past he's been portrayed as an affable yorkshire man with a patronising reason why; jesus; an all conquering alpha male; a vulnerable guy with a tortured past; an old romantic etc..

This feels like the first time in a while the character of the doctor has actually been taken into consideration, rather than being an inconvenience to an otherwise straightforward melodrama.

Oh, and the line '...I just made them say comfy chairs' was bloody genius.

  3. The Van Gogh episode was perfect. And the scene where Vincent was taking in the modern reception to his work, in tears, whilst a perfectly cast Bill Nighy waxed lyrical about his hero had me choked.

I was livid, bloody livid, when the day after I read a review of the show that said it was confusing that Van Gogh died anyway, and that showing him the future mustn't have had any point. But, surely the point of it (and the wider point about mental health), was that just being shown the good doesn't always change things. In fact, the Doctor said as much.

  4. Considering how much I desperately want to hate Piers Morgan, it makes me sad to admit that I actually quite like him. His tabloid experience has bestowed upon him the gift of putting into words what an awful lot of people are thinking.

Also, i'm going to be present at the Youth Labour leadership hustings, and will hopefully get the chance to ask questions of the candidates. I'm considering taking a transcript of what Morgan said about Milliband and Balls. Though, i'll have to avoid asking Mr. Balls the question 'So, seriously, you want to take control of your party, win the election and then take the surname 'BALLS' to America and present yourself as an esteemed statesmen and intellectual peer to the governing elite?'. Christ.

Is there any wonder Yvette Cooper is, well, Yvette Cooper?!

  5. As i've said previously, i'm new to Who, but it is bloody irritating when playing catch-up to one minute watch Karen Gillian as Amy Pond, Doctors companion, and then the next minute watch her as a misguided 'Sister of Cibil' (or, something) in Season 4's 'The Fires of Pompeii'. Oh, and the same thing happened with Freema Agyeman aswell. Pain.

Loving Matt Smith, though. Not quite as much as i'm loving Steven Moffat. His episodes are a class above. They seem to be more 'adult', without really alienating DA KIDZ. Some of the Christopher Eccleston/early Tennant stuff is like watching Nickelodeon at times.

  6. I'd never, ever watched Dr. Who but thought i'd give Smith a chance. He's bloody good, and i've enjoyed the two episodes so far.

That said, my new piqued interest brought me to David Tennant, and I willfully bought his first season as the doctor on DVD. It's actually quite good, Billie Piper's annoying but complaining about that is like smoking, and then complaining that you've got a tickly cough. However, whilst some episodes are great (the ones with black hole and devil; werewolf one; madam du pompadour and cybermen in particular), the Peter Kay episode i've just watched was utter shat of the highest order. One of the worst things i've ever had to endure. Rubbish.

  7. I've gone Penn.

I wanted to go for Pierre, but then thought that he's done nothing remarkeble by his standards this year. He's essentially carried on the path set by his own high, high standards. Probably still my favourite MMA competitor, though.

Then, I thought Dan but, despite his undoubted success, he still has that air of having had greatness thrust upon him rather than something that he might have earnt.

Penn on the other hand had an absolutely horrible start to the year. Deflated, defeated and embarassed he went away and, despite having every reason to be an arrogant and pompous ass, went back to the drawing board and bust his ass like never before. Coming back against both Florian and Sanchez, he displayed a patience and compusure you could argue he otherwise lacked, but most of all it looked as if he'd, for once, taken his strength and conditioning training seriously and not for granted.

I do love Lesnar, but it's shit he's on this list.

  8. Yeah, but that's a bit like saying 'why take a caravan on holiday, when you could just get the train?'; because the caravan is also your home. Atlantis itself was a big fuck off ship, rather than a city or planet. The Ancients lived on their ships...

The stargates served purposes such as opening communications with those planets, without it meaning that the ancients would actually travel through those planets. Plus, Stargate hopping is tremendously inefficient, as dialling a gate address isn't a quick procedure, so it probably doesn't work that much quicker than just hopping into hyper-space.

  9. Morty, I wasn't having a pop was just clarifying for Duane. Didn't mean to be so short.

But, either way, I agree with a lot of your post, particularly the issue with the senator who'd actually shown exactly the opposite character traits necessary to vindicate turning him into a martyr. I suppose their point was how death can alter a persons opinion, and that he realised how important it was to give his daughter a chance of survival. But, yeah, the motive wasn't particularly well portrayed.

    * The ship and its justification of "oh, and earlier ship must have come this exact same way and left stargates for us to visit. Convenient, eh?"

That actually made perfect sense. The ancient's plotting of Stargates when on new journeys was pretty well documented in both SG1 and Atlantis, and it is actually the whole premise on which Atlantis is based. The first ship would come by, marking its territory so to speak, and when others followed not only did they have the safety net of the stargate energy signatures to follow, but also had sanctuary if they were attacked.

    * Why didn't the main cast go to a stargate on another safe planet and wait to find out if Earth was okay, rather than randomly jumping through to some place they'd never seen before?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but didn't Carlyle hijack the dialing process to dial the ninth chevron? ...unable to resist his academic intrigue and claiming that it was to dangerous? And, once he'd dialied hadn't he just tied everyones hands, because dialing a gate isn't a particularly speedy process and the planet was about to blow up...?

Also, did we ever find out what happened to Lou Diamond Phillips character?

  10. Just watched the new Stargate show, and fuck me somewhere unpleasent with the intention of a virile donkey it was really very good.

I'm a fan of both the earlier shows, but expected this to be fairly poor.

As expected, Carlyle stood out as too did David Blue. It was, somehow, kind of weird watching Stargate with proper actors.

The storytelling and projection was far more adult than any of the early series, and the way it was shot (and the fact that at the end they, quite literally, distanced themselves from any story arcs or villains from earlier shows) suggested that this could be a completely new begininning. Surprisingly good start, especially considering 'insiders' say the first two episodes are the weakest.

  11. I actually enjoyed Wolverine.

I haven't seen any X Men films, and have very limited interested in the franchise as a whole. Perhaps that helped.

What I will say, though, is that the film loses an awful lot of charisma and charm once Reynolds is removed from the mix. I'm actually a fan of Ryan Reynolds when he sticks to what he's good at it; the cool, laid back style that seems naturally funny, but with some underlying dork. And, for the brief time he spent on the screen he really made the difference. That sort of quickfire dialogue and quips would have improved the film if used throughout, I think.

  12. Heroes is still good, actually. And, getting better.

And those that criticised, may I just say, after this weeks episode; SOCKS~ FUCKING SOCKS~

Oh, and I wasn't sure if i'd ever seen the Inbetweeners. So I just watched an episode on 4oD. The scene where the lad is getting tossed off by a twelve year old in a disco as his friends watched is both the most disturbing, and the funniest thing I think i've ever, ever seen.

'...I don't like it when he makes eye contact.'

  13. Why is Pro Wrestling Torrents so annoying for seeding? Do you basically have to download shit you dont want but other people do to get your ratio up? Everything i download no one ever seeds from me. well nothing significant anyway. My ratio is below 0.5 and ive had the warning now so i have 8 days left and theres nothing i can do about it! So does anybody have advice for getting the ratio back up or are there better wrestling torrents sites online which you dont have to abide by a ratio system?

In order to survive on PWT, and any wrestling torrent site, you pretty much HAVE to download Raw/Smackdown/Ecw/PPV's. Basically, something that every bugger wants, then download it as early as possible and seed until the download just becomes inactive.

You can't just go in, flick through their archives and cherry pick the stuff you want. You can only do that once your ratio is up, I mean, once my ratio hits about a 1.3 I might go and find something which hasn't a chance of seeding but that I want to see.

Another good trick is to seed the shit out of a freeleech.

  14. So, in an amazing display of good judgement my mother has apparently ordered me the Randy Orton top rop shirt for my birthday.

Which might sound awesome, but apparently she's used some website called 'wrestlingcollector.co.uk'. I've never come across them before, are they any good? ...British based, I assume? Does anyone have any experience with them?

    Has she thrown
