  9. I watched SummerSlam on the Xbox one app.

Oddly, I watched the first hour or so, then returned to it and pressed resume on the continue watching thumbnail. It took me back to the beginning.

Watched about another hour, then went back to it, pressed resume and it picked up where I left off. No logic.

And the rewind option is a mess.

With this and the switch of NFL Gamepass (off topic alert!) to DAZN whoā€™ve made a right royal mess of it, I donā€™t seem to have much luck with my subscription services.

I always love watching the older shows back and seeing the crowds invested in every move no matter how small they look now. While these days you'll get guys trying to kill each other off ladders and barely get a reaction because everyone's seen it all before.

So yeah Hogan did what worked for him. And if that was what the crowd wanted and paid for then why wouldn't you?

Perfect example of this being the recent Blood & Guts match. The crowd have had thumbtacks, chairs, glass(!) & tablesā€¦in a cage...but then chant ā€œwe want fireā€! Fire!!! Personally have a genuine fear of the stuff dating back to being a kid but scares me rigid seeing it in pro wrestling. Itā€™s just so unpredictable and unnecessary.

Itā€™s like ladder matches as well but Hell in a Cell/standard cage matches - fans were craving more and more craziness.

And to bring it back to Hoganā€¦remember when he suplexed Boss Man off the top of the cage* (*not actually from the top of the cage in reality) on SNME. THAT was seen as a the big, not seen before spot but got over huge. He knew what to do, and when and for the optimal reaction and emotion.Ā

Anyway, Iā€™m now going off to watch Best of Saturday Nightā€™s Main Event on the Network and cry into my hot chocolate whilst reminiscing about simpler times šŸ„²

Was watching Royal Rumble 1992 at work today. Its amazing to watch with how the crowd are so into it, no music for the different entrants and Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are absolutely brilliant on commentary.Ā

    Ā

Looking forward to seeing the rest tomorrow!Ā

1990 & 1992 remain my absolute favourite Rumbles but youā€™re right about 92, itā€™s a thing of beauty.

  12. Just seen it myself for the first time. Absolute rubbish design. Like a really basic college project idea.

Daft thing but had been watching old episodes of Superstars from 1992 and some of the thumbnails for the shows on the ā€˜historyā€™ section are showing the likes of New Day, Jack Swagger, R-Truth and Curtis Axel šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Forgot to mention, that Ricochet/Paul table bump was terrifying.Ā

I assume they were meant to seamlessly go from ladder to top rope to table but the fact they didn't and Paul going pretty much head first through the one table was really scary.

Iā€™m all for improvising and itā€™s an important skill in wrestling but there has to be a cut off point and that seemed it. I honestly thought Paul had spiked himself through the table to the floor until replays showed he managed to adjust enough at last second.

I donā€™t need any wrestler to paralyse themself to give me one extra crazy stunt.

  14. Having been lucky enough to win tickets to Thursdayā€™s show in Sheffield (helped by a cheeky ringside seat bump due to knowing someone who knows someone) I was already feeling like I had the bug for becoming a regular viewer again outside of the main PPVsā€¦.sorry, PLEs.

Watching last night on the Network made me regret not trying to get tickets to be there live.Ā

A fun show from start to a spine-tingling finish and canā€™t lie, even though it may have just been for a cheap pop I unashamedly marked out at the Mania in London suggestion.

I guess people will have to stop pretending Sami was turning down the Saudi dollar on moral reasonsā€¦

Perhaps to do with the fact that Syria & SA have resumed diplomatic discussions in recent months?

Not sure about heat, but isn't it the story that Bret wasn't too keen on Lawler due to his jokes about Bret's mother until he found out she thought they were funny?

True. They did one of those Table for 3s on the Network with Bret, Lawler & Glen Jacobs and talked about that.

  17. For all wrestling can be enjoyable for shocks and surprises, sometimes you just have to go with the obvious and what feels right and Cody standing tall completing the story (or that chapter at least) as champ to close the show was the absolute right time and right outcome but they opted to piss it away. You donā€™t get that same momentum, reaction and sense of history down the line at ā€˜WWE Saudi Sports(entertainment) Washingā€™ or whatever itā€™s called. You donā€™t get it at SummerSlam even. And trying to stretch it to WM40 seems unthinkable as well as unnecessary.

Iā€˜m trying to get my head around the idea of keeping Reigns going as champ to create something new that we're not used to in the modern age but the 1980s/1990s wrestling fan in me says ā€˜give the masses what they want, what they came to see and send them home happyā€™.

The booking of the whole match up to, but not including, the final 3 seconds of that match has been nothing short of masterful with so many interwoven pieces to it.Ā

Not enjoyed a show/shows like that in a long time but the ending left me feeling flat.

    Just my take of course.

It was fantastic. I had to skip some of Flair's ramblings out of second hand embarrassment but Konnan knocked it out of the park with his speech.Ā

As usual, Flair had to make it about him. Running down the list of Japanese wrestlers heā€™s faced was just putting himself over, nothing to do with Muta. When he said he hoped to induct Jumbo Tsuruta, I muttered to myself ā€œnot a chance after thisā€. Iā€™ve been the biggest Flair mark out there but this was painful.

Agree re Konnan though, smashed it!
