  1. No it doesn't, but it does call into question the mental capacity of some of the people with power around here. I didn't buy into the whole PCC thing personally, but simply viewed it as banter. Considering it was a play on a wrestling-like stable on a wrestling forum I considered it completely appropriate for this place and figured it was a bit of a laugh.

After reading some of the rules I see that various other phrases have been banned as well, which simply comes across as rather silly. I can understand not talking about certain people and their past problems or whatever, but certain people on here need to get a grip, especially when they like to change forum members avatars and names "for a laugh".

Or is it only a laugh if they do it, and not the cool kids?

Really, something like this, I look at as being the equivalent of locking a thread. The pcc stuff has gotten boring, whether it's people yammering on and on about being part of it, or people yammering on and on about the fact that they don't like it.

If it was derailing a thread like that, the thread would likely end up being locked. Instead, it's being done to prevent good topics turning into shit topics, and to prevent them being locked.

And with regards to the double standard, it's like the Toontown rules - it's only a laugh if it's funny.

  2. One man's tedious fuckwittery is another man's passionate debate though. Richie may be a bit of a fuckwit, but he's sincere in his love of wrestling, and talking about wrestling. I'd take a forum of Richies over a forum of Ron Simmons, say.

Banning trolls like Happ is one thing; a regrettable necessity. Banning words and phrases is a bit Orwellian for an internet forum about something as intrinsically silly as wrestling though, isn't it?

It doesn't prevent Richie from talking about wrestling in any way whatsoever. How does it?

  3. Yeah, I think I'm done with PowerSlam. Read it religiously since 1997, but the Cena stuff has got too much even for me, and I don't like Cena.

It was summed up with the two Rey Mysterio matches the other week. PS said the Miz one was fantastic, but that Cena constantly blew the second one, meaning that it was a bad match. Watching it, it wasn't as good as Miz/Rey, which was really good, but it was a strong match in its own right.

I think it's partially that Fin treats Cena as the second Hogan, despite the fact that nobody seems to see Cena as being the manipulator that Hogan was. Everyone basically says that Cena's the ultimate company guy.

  4. Hundreds of people across London got together and arranged to clear areas up before Dave managed to utter a single word in public about the situation.

That's not 'having the bollocks to deal with the situation'. That's waiting for photo opportunities before doing anything about it.

  5. Seeing as Teedy Kay is po-lis, I think he's got more of an idea of whether they've taken hold yet or not than you.

He's po-lis? Based on how he does in the mafia games, it's a wonder they ever catch anyone...

  6. So, the police invested much time and money in a minor drugs charge for which I was let go completely scot free. They invested more significant time for a minor driving charge for which they charged me a large sum and gave me points on my license that has cost me nearly
  7. I don't disagree with a lot of what you say, but your conclusion?

The authorities, both governmental and law enforcement, should be looking at ways of helping areas and young people, and treating people with respect rather than suspicion. Then, perhaps, they would gain trust, the improvement of the areas would change the mindset of people who would be less inclined to react this way. As it is, hatred towards the police and the government is at a high we have not seen for years, and the consequence is rioting and vandalism, which I support until the authorities change the way they operate.

Fuck right off. I live in Wood Green. I've spoken to people who are worried they're going to lose everything because they run small businesses and their insurance doesn't cover that kind of vandalism.

People in Tottenham have lost their homes. You're talking about an area that does have poverty. You're talking about, well, people in similar positions to the rioters and looters. You think most of them have insurance? What about those that don't? Not everybody does, and not everyone is going to be covered by this.

It's not just chain stores taking a hit. It's family businesses and family homes. It's middle class bullshit to assume everything will be okay because of insurance. For some people, even if it shouldn't be, insurance is a luxury they can't afford.

  8. Wood Green was fucked by the way and hardly got a mention in the news. Burnt out cars outside Lidl. HMV was destroyed, as was both JD Sports, all the mobile phone shops, Body Shop (I have no clue). Pretty much every other shop going down the high road had it's windows smashed in.

Based on the footage I've seen, it was mainly teenagers. Teenage girls like makeup. Hence Bodyshop.

Took me a little while to work out why Holland & Barratt was hit - it was for their jars of protein mix.

I think 'fucked' is an exaggeration - lots of broken windows, and lots of mess and products stolen, but by late morning, Wood Green was pretty peaceful. I spent the day in the town, and there were still places open. Biggest problem was the lack of buses.

  9. But you are MORE LIKELY to commit crime if you come from this background. This has been proven many many many times over.

    Yes, this. Absolutely this.

The idea that there are reasons for behaviour isn't the same thing as saying there are excuses for it. It's about trying to identify the root problems and deal with them, in order that they occur less often in future.

  10. More so a bunch of cunts in Wood Green, who just used the fact that the police were busy in Tottenham to smash in 20-odd shops and loot them. Which is fucking annoying.

It sums it all up that the main targets were mobile phone shops and sports shops. Amusingly, a shop called 'LOOT' was untouched.

  11. Don't be daft, Pitcos. Roleplaying, and playing a role... they are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things.

For example, in Dungeons and Dragons, you might say "Well, I'm a wizard so I'm going to use my magical powers to protect my companion" and the Gamesmaster would say "Ok, the result is that the enemy guards don't do any damage this round".

In Mafia Wars thing, you might say "Well, I'm a Town Doctor, so I'm going to use my healing powers to protect my companion, and the Gamemoderator would say "Ok, the result is that the Scum don't do any damage this round".

As you can see, it's not really the same thing at all.

That's actually a fairer analogy. But in D&D, that kind of thing is the main thrust of the game. With Mafia, the detection is the main thrust of the game.

  12. I don't really play on the UKFF, although I may be interested in it, but I do play similar games elsewhere. I think the comparison to D&D is pretty fair, they are certainly within in a similar sphere, Chris B. I think you're a bit worried about admitting your geeky interests, embrace it!

Loki, in a tounge-in-cheek way you paint a somewhat accurate picture of the game. It's not hoods and fake spells in your mam's basement, but it's something similar. Give it a shot if you want.

I used to run a site called GeekPlanet. I host a comics podcast, and I write for a fairly major comics magazine about comics. I'm saying this on a wrestling forum. I'm very open about my geek interests - I'm just not into roleplaying games.

I'm not defending them, or saying they're bad. I'm just saying the comparison is wrong.

  13. Not really, no. Sure, there are themes, but they're pretty irrelevant with regards to the gameplay. Same with characters.

You have roles in the sense of some players have abilities, but it's not a case of 'playing that character'.

It's more a detection game, because the only way to win is via team-play. You just don't know who's on your team, and you have to try and work that out. Some of the PMs and abilities are ways in which certain players (randomly picked) have ways to make that easier.

  14. It's possibly setting off my pedantic tourettes, on the basis that I can't stand Dungeons and Dragons. In fact, ironically, I dislike most roleplaying games.

It's possibly because of that, when someone says that the game is basically rubbish because it's like dungeons and dragons, it annoys me slightly - if it was like D&D, I probably wouldn't play.

  15. If you've never played a roleplaying game, and never played mafia, then yes, they're the same. If you know what a roleplaying game is, they're not really much alike at all.

It's a bit like saying pro wrestling and boxing are the same thing, just without the rounds system. There are enough similarities that it's an accurate statement, but ignoring huge differences.

  16. Call me behind the times but, what actually are Mafia Wars that everyone on here is on about? Is it some role playing game or somthing?

Not really a 'roleplaying' game, although they are sometimes themed - but that's more for silliness/atmosphere rather than how the game plays.

Essentially, you have a game where you have to work out which other players are the bad guys. If a majority vote is that one guy is a bad guy, they're removed from the game. Carries on until one side wins.

  17. Won't be to everyone's taste, but I met Eileen Daly the other day at a horror double bill. She used to turn up on Bravo a lot, as the goth vampire character who linked films/shows etc. She also starred in the ultra-low budget, but immensely fun Razor Blade Smile, and used to do a lot of glamour modelling.

We chatted for a little bit, and when she shook my hand and asked my name, she squashed my hand up against her boob somewhat...probably unintentionally, but I wasn't complaining.

If my 14/15 year old self ever knew that was going to happen, he probably would have wanked himself to death.
