  1. Don't post at all nowadays bit still lurk.

Life has taken a massive downturn the last couple of months and have hit the drink hard.

My gf found out she was pregnant 6 months ago and it should have been the happiest time of our lives bit we've been arguing constantly.

She found out I'd slept with someone 6 months ago 2 days before she found out she was pregnant so the issue was never discussed and she pretended things were okay until the last month or so where she's blocked me out completely and dumped me.

As a result I've hit the drink hard. I can't drink alone in the house so tend to go to the local boozers and sink double figures of crappy fosters before getting a couple of hours crap kop and going to work.

It's a viscious cycle and I'm finding it nearly impossible to get out of.

There is an AA meeting round he corner from me Thursday which I'm hoping to go to.

I just want to be there for my son and I want her to love me again! It sucks!

  2. Sakuraba's loss to Schembri remains probably the most gutted ive ever been watching someone lose in an MMA fight. I couldn't believe it.

Yeah. That was bad. Dominating the fight, pulling out angolian chops and getting caught with a wild knee.

Pride 25 may be the best MMA show of all time though

  3. Ricardo Arona being allowed to use elbows would have been a scary force if he'd made the move in 2006. His stand up game was basic (although he did have great leg kicks) but he was so strong that he could take anyone down. Hasn't he won ADCC a few times but never lost a point?

Apparently he just surfs and shags women.

I'd have loved to have seen Rickson fight a 'proper' opponent just once. The Gracie's used to have such an aura around them that the seemed unbeatable. But as MMA has evolved they've been shown up as just one trick ponies. If we assume he was better than Royce then I still can't seem him being much of a challenge for Bas, Sakuraba and Frank Shamrock at the time.

And as for beating Fedor? fedor_beach.jpg

Would you mess with that man?

I know I have a massive man crush on Fedor but he looks amazing since retiring

  4. Have been watching a lot of Raw and Smackdown from 2000 onthis channel and I forgot how much I enjoyed the slow build for the HHH/Stephanie/Angle 'love triangle'. The hints are there from January and I honestly think Angle and Steph had better on screen chemistry than she did with HHH.

In the ring you can see him improving month by month. Obviously it helps that he was in there with Rock, Benoit, Jericho etc from the beginning but he looks legitimate main event by No Mercy in my opinion.

Also, I'm sure someone on here commented about Kurts wrestling attire a while back and a lot of it is gorgeous. He really was a fine looking fellow back then wasn't he?

  5. Just finished watching The Wire. Not certain I'd call it the best show I've ever seen but it was excellent for the most part with some of the most wonderful characters I've ever seen on screen.

As much as I loved Stringer Bell, Bubbles, Avon, Bodie, Proposition Joe and the Carver-Herc partnership I have to say the kids from season 4 steal the show for me. Just amazing characters who you really want to see turn out right and make the right choices in life. They make Season 4, in my opinion, the best season of the show and maybe the best season of TV ever.

I didn't really enjoy 2 as much as the others though. I've been told that it gets better on second watch though. Anyone vouch for that? Also Ziggy is stupidly annoying and by far the worst character on the show.

  6. The best part of the first Rampage/Wanderlei fight is right at the end - after about 10 or 12 knees - Rampage knows he is on the way out, Wanderlei knows he's got it in the bag and they look at each other and smile at each other. Completely mental.

Who is the Japanese lady who was shown in the crowd during Nogueira fights? Pretty sure he hugs her after the Cro Cop win and I know a face she was shown CRYING when Fedor was destroying him in their first fight. Can't find a pic so the information is vague.

  7. Floyd always stays sat on his stool until the last moment too so I wouldn't read anything into it. I'd not seen any of the build up for the fight and now wish I had. It's pure pro-wrestling! For what it's worth I scored it 116-114 Broner but he didn't impress me too much. If I were Amir Khan I'd be begging for a Broner match before Mayweather as I think it'd be winnable for him. He has the speed and it looked like Broner didn't carry his one punch power up the weight classes.

  8. I personally think Cro Cops heart wasn't fully in fighting when he first came to the UFC. He'd finally won the big one in Pride after saying he'd retire if he lost, was hyped to the moon by the UFC and I really think he expected to waltz in there and win the belt without even training in a cage until after the Gonzaga fight. If I remember correctly, this was around the time where every main event prediction Randy made seemed to come true and he said he'd prefer to face Cro Cop over Gonzaga due to the cage factor. As said, Randy was a master game planner and I think he'd have found a way to beat Cro Cop much the same way he beat Gonzaga.Randy - Fedor would have ended first round armbar though ;)On Liddell, what are we calling his prime years? The period in between the 2 losses to Rampage? (04-07) If so I don't see anything on his record in that period which makes me think he'd beat Henderson. Henderson is similar to Couture but can take a lot more punishment and, back then, his punching was a bit more refined and the H Bomb wasn't as obvious.

  9. Yeah you're probably right. I just found after the Evans fight all of a sudden everyone seemed to really appreciate what he was doing in the cage. More HL videos were popping up on Youtube and Sherdog (I know) started a ton of threads like "Machida >>>>> Fedor".A dodgy decision win coupled with the consensus that Shogun solved the "Machida riddle" seemed to make the hate for Machida amongst the general MMA fans worse than before.

  10. I think the first Shogun fight really changed the way Machida fought in a bad way. In all his previous fights he was being praised for being "elusive" to the point where Rogan called his title win the start of the "Machida era". I think Shogun showed Lyoto that there was a way to figure out his style and that inturn made him a more aggressive fighter in the rematch.People who once praised his elusiveness now called him "boring" and maybe psychologically forced him to be more aggressive. Ultimately, that aggression brought him out of his comfort zone and cost him his title. The Rampage fight I scored for him but I think if he'd have fought his normal fight I think he'd have frustrated Rampage and won a clear decision. It's been nice to seem him begin to return to his roots and I still think he has the best chance of beating Jones. If he can avoid the elbows and keep it standing I think he's got a 30% chance of winning.

  11. Ha, I had you in mind with the Senna comparison!

I already class Floyd as a great fighter. Admittedly if he'd have fought and beat Pacquaio I don't think it'd even be up for discussion as to him being one of the greatest. I think what separates Mayweather from Pacquaio, apart from his 0 in the L column, is performances like Saturday where he makes good fighters just look ordinary. Pacquaio has been involved in some great wars but he's looked vulnerable. Mayweather is so good that people were claiming he was slowing down because he lost 2 rounds against Cotto!

  12. Floyd Mayweather snr made a point in interviews that it'll be difficult for Junior to be seen as one of the greatest of all time due to him being the only really exceptional boxer out there in an age of only good-very good boxers.

Something that happens in nearly every sport, and boxing is no exception, is that everything that happened in the "Good old days" is looked at through rose tinted glasses. No one will ever be as good as Sugar Ray Robinson (I'm no boxing expert but there is no way on earth his exceptional record isn't padded with a good 80% "bums) to some people.

In Football Messi and Zidane will always be seen as a step below Pele and Maradona by some.

In Formula One, no one will ever be as good as Ayrton Senna.

In Golf Tiger Woods will never be as known as the best ever as most will always say it's Jack Nicklaus.

Todays generation will probably start ranking the likes of Mayweather, Woods, Messi as the greatest of all time as they are the only ones we're exposed to.

  13. All Khan has is blinding speed and balls of steel. He'll never have a solid defence but that's what makes watching him so much fun. You know you'll get bursts of 7 or 8 punches (most of which hit the gloves) then anticipate the opponent throwing a massive hook and rocking or dropping him.

Seriously, stick him in with Manny. It'd be an absolute war.

  14. Is Khan ever in a boring fight nowadays? You always get your moneys worth when he's on the card.

I don't think we will ever really see a "new" Amir Khan as you'll never be able to calm his attacking tendencies down enough. He'll never have a top defence and will always be relying on his speed to carry him through fights. Makes it exciting for us though.

Personally, I'd have him fight Pacman. It'd be an absolute war and one I could see Khan getting the better of.

    Audley

A normal fighter you could see retiring after that but he seems to have ridiculous self belief and I can see him winning another Prizefighter tournament and still calling for title shots.

  15. To be honest I find the "boring and lifeless" aspect to Fedor is probably the main reason he's my all time favorite. Where you have people like Liddell, Silva, Rampage, Cro Cop, and pretty much everyone talking about how they were going to "knock (insert fighter) out," you had this chubby guy who looked like he'd just woken up going in there and just completely dominating everyone.

It's also the mystery that surrounded him which made him stand out more than everyone else. You'd see footage of him training like he's living in the 60s and the most you'd ever find out about him through his interviews is he likes art, has a pet turtle and his 'diet' consists of whatever his wife puts in front of him!

If I had to pick a top 5 they'd all come from around 2002-2006 which I still see as the golden era of MMA. In fact, no matter how much the fighters improve (like Jon Jones) I think I'm always going to be one of those guys who say "It was better in the old days".

  16. Ha, yeah BJ is crazy. I remember in the run up to the second GSP fight I read 2 interviews about what he'd do after the fight if he won. One said he'd retire as probably the best of all time and the other said he'd try and fight Anderson for the MW belt! Strange as it might sound if BJ fought Anderson at 170 around 2009-10 I'd give him more of a chance against Silva than I would against GSP.

  17. Oh I think BJ Penn is the most naturally talented fighter I've ever seen. However, what's the point in having all the talent in the world if you don't fulfill it? It's well known that Penn surrounded himself with too many yes-men who didn't push him in training. I think if he'd had a top training team and not left the UFC to get fat and fight Machida then he'd probably be talked about as possibly the greatest MMA fighter of all time rather than one of the biggest wastes of potential.

It sounds mad saying a guy who has won 2 belts in 2 weight classes is a waste of potential!

  18. My favourite upkick KO is Mousasi on Jacare in the DREAM MW tournament final. Brutal stuff.

    Prime BJ > Hendo

Must say I disagree with this. "Prime" BJ Penn only lasted 3 fights (Sherk, Florian, Sanchez) and I think the fact that Henderson has been competing at the very top of the game for nearly 15 years puts him way, way above BJ Penn.

  19. Yeah I know his wrestling is top level but I still see Mousasi beating him 4 times out of 5. I'm a massive fan of Mousasi as you can tell! (Probably due to the week he spent training with Fedor 3 years ago!)

Mo has always seemed like this decades Rampage but without the ability to succeed. I have no idea why he thinks it's a good idea to namedrop people like Hopkins when talking about his average stand up game.

  20. Has Mo ever been that good though? His biggest and best win is against Mousasi and even then I'd pick Mousasi to win 80% of the time now he's sorted out his wrestling. Mo is another one of those guys who talks his way into being a contender rather than earning it. Basically a Chael Sonnen.

  21. I'm amazed they even ran a show over here back in 2002. I'll be honest I'd only heard of the UFC through Ken Shamrock and had only seen 1-4 due to them being in the wrestling section of the local video shop. Wonder if it was worth their while financially?

I think I believe the Matt Hughes/Pat Militech version of the story and Lee Murray is a complete psychopath.

  22. There were a few squabbles breaking out during UFC 70 but I put that down more to MMA being in its infancy over here back then and just attracting tough guy wannabes who don't really like the sport and just like the violence.

Also, at UFC 38 wasn't there a slight altercation between Lee Murray and Tito Ortiz? Depending on who you believe Ortiz got knocked out.
