Barbican itself is a weird place isn't it?

I absolutely love the Barbican. The sheer range of stuff they put on throughout the year is incredible and the design of the building is beautiful. I love hanging out there.

  2. The staging in Totoro was so beautiful that I found myself actually crying throughout in wonder, child-like joy and awe of it.

Though saying that my son was in the middle of 10 months of serious sleep repression so I was half delirious before the play even started so that might've been what done it.

I think WWE are a little more savvy when it comes to business and paying over the odds these days

Of course. They have shareholders they have to answer to. TK doesn't have to answer to anybody so can do what he likes.

Why does it have to be tribal?  Why can't it just be a bad take on the AEW product?

Because 99 times out of 100 the people with those bad takes also seem to be WWE super fans.

everything good related to AEW in this thread?

Incorrect. There's been plenty of criticism and moaning about AEW in this thread.

I’m fascinated by this new criticism that’s started cropping up about guys not selling enough.

I think a lot of it is WWE brain rot. To a certain section of fans if anything is done outside WWE in a different way than the WWE house style that automatically makes it wrong and bad.

As for the HOOK spot, why would he immediately let go when slammed into the tacks? Far smarter to endure the pain and keep your submission locked in. And note that the first thing HOOK did after Cage tapped and he released the hold was to sell his back.

And the Takeshita one count wasn't no selling at all. He kicked out at one yes but if you watch him he looks like he's in horrendous pain immediately after. A kick out at 1 doesn't necessarily mean it's no selling.

Years of WWE has dulled some people to the endless, creative possibilities of wrestling.

It was nice to see the show open with a talking segment too, I'd like to see much more of that.

I didn't care for the opening segment at all. A promo face off leading to an impromptu "can they coexist" tag match felt like the most WWE thing they've done for awhile and I could really do without that shit personally.

I haven't really ever listened to one of Cornettes shows outside of the odd clip here or there, but who exactly are his target audience?

    Angry, miserable psychotic trolls.

  8. Yeah Okada has turned up on AEW TV enough that him turning up now doesn't really feel like a big deal.

I'm in two minds about the current Bucks gimmick. I'm enjoying it but at the same time they play everything so wink wink nudge nudge that you can't really buy into it as a believable gimmick.

  9. Best moment of this show was the production crew missing Hook moving out of the way so all we saw was Brian Cage inexplicably charging head first through a wall for seemingly no reason.

Other than that some guy called Okada turned up and Ospreay had a match that was pretty good, I guess.

I totally agree with this. Putting aside the fact I find the Strong character very grating, Cassidy has given that title so much credibility. I absolutely love the (now impossible) idea of Takeshita being the person to take the title from him, and having a dominant run, building on that credibility.

Takeshita as International Champion while building tension with Ospreay as Don Callis desperately tries to keep a lid on it would be a good story I think.

  11. I don't really see him getting out the midcard. He has his strengths but typically he rarely has a singles match better than just ok. For a big guy he isn't particularly big. You can see far more upside in Big Bill or Powerhouse Hobbs than Wardlow I think.

Personally I'd have him ditch the Undisputed Kingdom stuff and form a tag team with Powerhouse Hobbs for a bit. Call them WAR POWER or something, have them throw around all the cruiserweights. Good times.

Yeah, Trump won big but he won big with the republicans who bothered to vote. I’m hopeful that isn’t reflective of the full picture.

My feeling is that a lot of the stuff with the courts etc is playing well with his base but is it making any differences elsewhere? Has his base grown since the last election?

Also I don't understand why the average American thinks Bidenomics is a terrible failure when pretty much every financial analyst across the globe thinks it's a success. I wish they had it over here. Am I misunderstanding it or is it just a case of Democrats failure to present it properly to the average American/Republicans successfully changing the general narrative around it?

  13. This may be a boring discussion to start but typically I don't really see very much across Instagram, X and Reddit of AEW fans attacking WWE but you can't find any post relating to AEW without finding swathes of the most miserable and horrible WWE trolls slating every little thing they're doing off. They are completely obsessed with it and just the worst, dumbest people possible.

  14. I don't think anyone who didn't vote for Trump in the last election is likely to vote for him this time. But I think what'll make this election is if the same people who voted for Biden last time are likely to vote for him again.

think AEW's focus on "workrate wrestling" also creates somewhat of a glass ceiling.  To some extent, especially as a singles wrestler, there's a certain level of match that you're expected to have if you're at the top of the card

I think there should be a glass ceiling. Main event spots and World Championship runs are precious things should be reserved for the special few who can have great matches and do great character work at a level above everyone else.

We're seeing this now in the rise of Swerve Strickland. He's seperating himself from the pack and on his way to becoming a true main event player.

they also have Nick Wayne, who's much better at being a smarmy punchable little dick who can also do some cool moves. Sammy has been eclipsed in pretty much every area by someone else in AEW, hasn't meaningfully progressed in ability, character or card position since his debut, and I doubt anyone would notice if he was never booked again. Cut him loose.

And he can't complain that they haven't given him chances. He's received more chances than he ever should have really but he's never been able to step up his game to where it's needed to be. He's a good lackey to another star but not much more than that.

  17. Just now, Supremo said:

He’s got nothing to do, nowhere to go, and nothing left to offer

Especially now Will Ospreay is in the company who can do every single one of Sammy's spots but better.

Being part of Sting's retirement match will be bigger and have a longer lasting legacy than any hypothetical World title win.
