Yeh, but Blair had a habit of not listening to any dissenting voices, and now look what's happened.

That said, not knowing enough about grassroots Welsh politics, I would be interested to know how the winning side would have dealt with the concerns of those who didn't want devolution.

The modern devolution movement was kick-started in 1979, & it didn't succeed so stayed dormant until 1996/7 ... the "for voters" accepted the 1979 result.  The "against" voters in the 1997 referendum also accepted the result to approve devolution by the narrowest of margins as the country was gaining ground what with Cool Cymru, etc.  And of course Tony Blair was instrumental in that, for good or bad.  The National Assembly for Wales was born by the 06 August 1999 election process.

Since 2011, varying reports, papers & referenda have been held to further pad out the legislative powers for the Welsh Government, as it's now called.

As far as I can tell, given my advanced years & having lived, voted & wot-not through processes since 1997 (too young in 1979) the arguements against devolution have been listened to, & the concerns have been reasonably addressed, which makes for calm debate on the whole.

Nice bit, but what the fuck is up with those stupid subtitles?

That did spoil it, but the context of the bit is about right.

A big part of why this has all gone tits-up is because they've allowed people who shouldn't have much power to dictate the narrative. The Brexiters have gone on about how this was "the biggest exercise in democracy in British history" because of the turn-out, but others have failed to challenge them with the simple fact that a win of 52% to 48% is not a huge political mandate.

Wales voted for devolution in 1997 on a tighter margin than that though; 50.3% in favour, to 49.7% opposed, & it stood.  Smaller fish, I grant you, but if it's tight margins you want, then ...

I hope the prince suddenly discovers tape trading and wants another go of the '95 King Of Deathmatch finals with proper old Cactus Jack and Terry Funk rolling around barbed wire and C4 explosives.

Let's face it, I'm sure the Saudis would come up with a fuck-tonne of C4 & expect Foley to put on one of their "special jackets".

Going back through some old ITV matches and Kent Walton says the following during a Johnny Kwango match

Johnny told me he enjoys going to the movies and he said he always wears white gloves to the movies. I said "Why's that, Johnny?" and he replied "So I know when I've got to the end of my choc ice."

    The 1970s.

Immense!  The wonderfully revered Kent Walton ... and I will bet that Kwango actually said that in the dressing room.

  7. Trina Gulliver did an exhibition evening in Lampeter Rugby Club a couple of weeks ago, alongside Andy Fordham.  Cracking night it was an' all.  Worth the travel up for the atmosphere.  Some great darts players in there too; Tony 'The Hitman' Bradley was on form, as were Bedwyr Davies & John Taylor.  John Fowler was the compere.

  8. Right, let me just qualify my dislike of Moonraker for Devon ... when I saw the movie in the cinema during my formative years, I hadn't figured the theme link to the movie.  I was too young.  While the singer is an undoubted legend, it's the performer that makes the song not the song making the performer.  It's weak lyrically, IMO.  Very of it's time though, in fairness.

Yes, I am that fucking old.

The Brosnan-era songs were mostly shite.

    Correct!

You can't be in the running for best theme unless the sing is mashed after the film or explicitly mentions the film, e.g. "Nobody Does It Better" shoe horning in The Spy Who Loved Me.

Anyway, the answer is Thunderball.  The rejigged version on the David Arnold project is particularly splendid.

Well played.  Nicely done ... I'd completely forgotten about that.

  10. Honcho's special chicken chinese will be cooked this evening; I will take pics & upload accordingly through the process.  There may be some live Facebook streaming too. :)

On another note, I've been inspired to make chilli vodka.  The process will start this weekend & conclude in late April 2018 ... there are 3 types of chilli involved, & a lot of waiting around.

  11. Fair play to you fellas; I'm with you on the best Bond film.  It's my all-time favourite Bond movie too. :)

Now, what about the best Bond themes?

My top 3 are:  Live & Let Die, You Know My Name, Nobody Does It Better.  The worse one is Writing's On The Wall (Sam Smith), followed by Skyfall & Shirley Bassey's Moonraker.

I've never had the bad pain like your missus sadly had, but they still want the gallbladder out. I don't know what to think. My gallbladder has "many many stones" in it (gallbladder trouble runs in the family), but I'm not in any pain from it, but I'm booked in to whip it out this week. Whole thing is rather odd.

You've been lucky to miss the pain, but if there are many stones, then it's a matter of time before they shuffle around & eventually block the bile duct ... then the pain comes ... as I said, don't sweat it, rest up after the op & get yourself back to yourself! :)  It'll all be fine. :)

Has anybody had Gallbladder Surgery? How is it and how were you afterwards? Feeling like slitting my wrists here (joking). Coming up this week.

The missus had it in 2015; a year after our baby was born.  She likened the pain of the gallbladder flare-ups to being worse than child-birth, so she was over the moon with the surgery.  On more than one occasion we had an ambulance at the house when she had a flare-up, & the GP said it was most likely severe indigestion; a scan proved the gallbladder problem, so surgery was expedited.  Six weeks of taking it easy was hard for her, especially with a one year old in the house, but she's right as rain now.  Don't sweat it. :)

  14. If it's a cultural norm that your wedding is a big deal to both sets of parents, then I guess the wishes of the oldies are respected.  However, it's your, i.e. you & your betrotheds', day.  And then there's the rest of your lives.  That's all I'm saying.
