  1. Yep reaching for prior high points is an unobtainable goal for them really. Series 1-5 really was the shows highest points where it got better by the series. I do agree the timing/pacing is a little off. Could be down to the scripting. Like you've said it seems they take most of an episode to reach the punchline so to speak. I like the interplay between the characters best which is what the shows based on and the trademark of the strongest episodes.

I think Cat is the character who's evolved the most in the Red Dwarf universe. Rimmer has lost some of his snap and in theory should be more cantankerous and witty with his put downs. Lister historically did things to wind up Rimmer but that doesn't seem to be referenced now. Kryten who broke his programming should be in theory more "human" yet he's still a service droid and general dogsbody. So considering it's series XII the characters should be more evolved. I think had they had the advances in technology back then in the 1980s the earlier series could have been even better. But again if they had too many special effects it would have detracted from the story. RD also seems not to stick too close to a story arc so there's unanswered questions and each episode seems within its own universe so when they do refer to things in the past it actually does attempt to make some sort of linkage to the story.

  2. Great photo. Rocket does look like a partial Maine Coon with the tufty ears and big tail which are their trademark. They also like to make chirping type noises.

If they are 6 months and it's a full Maine Coon they can potentially grow big. I think their growth period ends at about 3-4 years.

  3. In fairness it's an improvement over XI. The only real bad episode is the one with the anti-criticism ship. I think Red Dwarf still needs to exist within its own universe so to speak and referencing things like when Rimmer said about the BBC don't make logical sense. In the episode preview for the finale is titled **spoiler ahead**

Skipper and mentions Rimmer so I'm guessing Ace Rimmer turns up in the finale

NExt Week's Red Dwarf appears to have some kind of thinly veiled dig at consumerism hamfistedly shoehorned in. Because what Red Dwarf needed was social commentary.

Next weeks episode is up now on UKTV Play. It's actually not so bad in parts. Also *spoiler* ahead about the episode

Dave ages in the episode as he "buys" things from the company who takes over Red Dwarf and they charge him in years. Fast forward to the end and because his personality has to be rebooted (he can't see Rimmer, Cat and Krytie) the one on the Red Dwarf database has to be restored. So his personality reverts back to when he's 21. Lister dresses like he does in the first series and sings/hums the "Titan" song in a scene reminiscent of the first ever episode. They also brought back Talkie in the previous episode so they are linking back to the older episodes.

re-watching Raw from '93. How they ever let Rob Bartlett near the commentary desk is beyond me, he just takes the piss out of everything he's watching.

Yea I didn't like him, if they had clued him in and he was a fan of wrestling then it wouldn't have been so bad. I think they should have just let Bobby take his place from the beginning. Rod used to do a Hulk impression on Imus in the morning according to his wiki https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Bartlett He was a comedian which is why he's trying to get himself over. I think Art Donovan, the former Baltimore Colts defensive tackle, was more unintentionally funny than Rod Bartlett

TNT is fucking nuts, i love it. It's the only kind of show that could take place in the world of wrestling, just bonkers.

Yea that's true, some episodes are really crazy. I think it was WWEs version of the Johnny Carson show but with pro wrestling back then the gimmicks were so OTT that somehow it just works. Especially if it's a great guest like The Brain, George Steele, Macho. Jimmy Hart, Capt Lou, Adrian Adonis etc.

As for the WCCW uploads, the more the merrier.

  7. Sleep paralysis is creepy, there's old illustrations of demons sitting on people but there's now a more modern scientific explanation that its the body still in its sleep state and not fully awake. The feeling usually passes after a few minutes or so.

As for ghost/scary stories nothing particularly scary but

Seeing briefly a few times/sensing the presence of someone who had sadly killed them self near a river

Seeing cars which have vanished, in three different locations

Seeing a really tall apparition in a door way which then and this was creepy looked me right in my face and woke me up like it was trying to scare me. Might have been sleep paralysis related though

If I can remember more I'll add them

  8. The 2nd episode (Siliconia) of the new series of RD isn't so bad but the one currently on UKTV play is just horrendous. It seems they are all phoning it and only Danny John-Jules as Cat is really trying. I think surprisingly the ratings have been good so they may even do a new series. But if the quality level further dips I see no point. RD X was actually OK to good and they should have concluded it then. XI didn't really have any memorable moments and XII has IMO only one OK episode but even that has had mixed reviews. I will stick with it, but only because it's Red Dwarf, if not I'd have just changed channels.

  9. Andre show? Do you mean the Eric Andre show.

Been watching the newer eps of the TNT show. Some are just off the charts wackiness. Like Jake making innuendo about his Snake and coming back from the break with Damien hanging between his legs. Don't know how Vince gave that the OK unless TNT was a late night show. George Steele is a funny guest on there too.

  10. If the Cubs manage to get past the Dodgers then they could repeat. I don't know if the current Yankees team is as strong as the one of old, there's no Jeter or A-Rod and Aaron Judge has been hit and miss since the All Star game. If he comes back to form then even then I wouldn't say its a lock. I think if its LA vs NY it will be a very competitive series. Im not a fan of sweeps so a game 7 thriller is what its all about.

Nah, it was deliberate since the mag itself has Survivor Series '87 on the cover. Beautiful start if that's a mistake by them.

Yep it does I was viewing it on a phone so had to zoom in to see the cover. My point was if they reviewed old events from a more insider perspective it would actually might be worth reading. Back to the magazine, a PDF version of the mag they can fix but on a print run it would be quite costly to fix.

What do they say about Survivor Series 87?

I know you made a typo and mean 97 but a magazine covering older events and the stories behind the matches etc like the concept of the Survivor Series would be interesting. Dave Meltzers Observer issues and Wrestling with Shadows essentially tell the complete Montreal Screwjob story. As for the Wrestle talk TV show if it was more in the line of Pro Wrestling this week and reviewed the weekly matches etc then and made it a MOTD type format where they review say that months WWE PPV and made it accessible to casual fans it could have been alright. The best episodes were the ones hosted by Raven and Jim Cornette. The Trial of Russo was just terrible. Had it been Corny doing the "trial" it could have been good but instead it came across as them again talking about stuff over a decade out of date.

  13. Rick James - Glow

In the A-Team episode featuring Rick and Isaac Hayes they interspersed the A-Team cast with this video in different parts. You see Hannibal catch the guitar, Murdock dancing etc. There's also a little story at the beginning so it makes you wonder if they were planning a Rick James movie. Rick also helped paved the way for Prince (who opened for James on his tour). Another similarity is Rick had Teena Marie, Val Young, Bobby M and Process & The Doorags as his protégées.

  14. Don't they have WCW Thunder all ready to go but Raven and Buffs royalties lawsuit stopping it. I'd imagine they still have old Wrestling Challenge etc which was on WWE 24/7 digitised so they could upload those too. Plus things like Showdown at Shea, War to Settle the Score etc.

  15. Its intriguing how Brian Pillman is like the ultimate cult hero of pro wrestling. That he never main evented WrestleMania or was a established main eventer doesn't seem to matter because his legend has grown over the years where he's still seen as someone who could and should have been a top guy. Because in the cartoon world of wrestling he was even more larger than life and lived the gimmick 24/7.

He was essentially method acting as the Loose Cannon and to find out about the real Brian Pillman will be fascinating. There was a selection of interviews he did put out as a CD on YouTube. If they are still on there IIRC he's in full gimmick but in one he let's his guard down a little.

There's no way a line of obscure wrestlers from the 80s and early 90s would succeed at the levels Mattel needs to sell. They're aiming for all sorts of fans to buy them, rather than just the few hundred Hasbro completionists who want Jim Powers and Paul Roma.

Yep true, which is why I said "I'm thinking the market there would be too niche" ;) Would be fun to have for the collectors though
