  1. Disregarding the fact you almost certainly have to pay extra for it, that Stadium Stampede is a genius idea.

It's basically Wrestling Fortnite, done in a setting that maps to one of AEW's most popular match types.

Nice touch with Motez taking Elton's top and trying it on for size before doing a big dive to the outside.

I liked this when it just seemed like a bit of throwaway house show-esque fun, but I liked it even more when it came back into play for the finish - Kit using the top Ford had stripped from Elton then discarded to provide even more leverage on the feet-on-the-ropes roll-up.

Continues the theme of PD being cheaty little bastards but clever ones who can/will use your tiniest mistake to their advantage, giving them hope of overcoming teams they initially seem overmatched by.

Some of the best breakfasts I ever has were when I used to go out with my dad when he was a truck driver at the greasy spoon transport cafes.   Brought back a happy memory that.

Absolutely this. Cheerio Cafe (aka Me Duck's) near Sleaford & the one near Red Lodge/Freckenham in Suffolk are the ones that stick in the mind.

  4. Bunch of stuff coming out on his Twitter account, mostly about the creation options but some other stuff.

Lots of WWE entrance movements included as "generic" ones:

They've also posted ones for Nakamura, Rey Mysterio & Io Sky.

Loads of themes included in the game too, old stuff like the Nightmare Family, current people who aren't (currently) in/announced for the game e.g. Swerve, down to occasional guests like Maki Itoh.

  5. "People either love me or hate me, but I don't care because the only people who hate me hate me because I'm real & say what I really think #NoFilter".

I think Punk lifted his promo from the Facebook bio of a (universally hated) single mum.

  6. Just realised this puts Nigel on the show with Andrade so we'll have to put up with his annoying pronunciation of "el ee-dough-low".

It was bad enough when it was just a nickname, now it's his actual name. Maybe it's just me it winds up though.

I've never actually been big on Nigel as a commentator in general, whereas I think he's a half decent promo. Ever since I learned about his magic show I've been hoping they'd utilise him as someone's manager who happens to do magic tricks.

Also, and I love Stinger, but Brian Cage paying homage to him with the getup while also laying down for him is all a bit Gratitude Era for me.

I agree with this - for all you try to explain it away as head games, the heel turning up in cosplay of the face is kind of odd.

However... long tights and facepaint could be the way to go for Cage, in general. Best he's ever looked IMO.

WWE Guess Who, which looks fascinating.

The wife got this for me at Christmas 5 or so years ago.

It's kind of fun as you can play in 3 ways, depending on your opponent:

    1. Traditional "looks" questions - have they got long hair, have they got face paint etc. (This is how it's intended to be played).

    2. Kayfabe questions - has your person been Intercontinental champion, has your person main evented Wrestlemania etc.

    3. Smart mark questions - was your person named in speaking out, etc.

Why was it not fine just to be a Joker rip-off? All wrestling characters are rip-offs and that’s part of the fun.

Especially as I'm fairly sure Rollins himself has said he's basically doing "the Joker having a midlife crisis".

Which is why I didn't even make it beyond that thread suggesting that was the DUMBEST possible interpretation of Seth's masterwork.

Even the Big Cass name only gets a pass because that was the name he had when he first came into view.

To be pedantic (and to further highlight that Big Bill is by far his best name) when he first started appearing on WWE (NXT) TV he was Colin Cassady.

Just glad they ditched W.Morrissey though. Awful name. Worse than Colin Cassady.

  11. Just had a watch of this:

And I'm hugely disappointed that they chose JR over Excalibur or Tony to do the voiceovers (or at least the "Welcome to Double or Nothing" one shown). He always sounded like he'd rather be anywhere else on earth than recording video game voiceovers back in WWE, but now... Jesus fucking Christ.

I could get it if they were asking him to do voiceovers for the tutorials (which I believe is Regal) and he was reading out button combos but fuck me Jim - they're asking you to pretend you're on commentary welcoming that viewers to the hugely exciting first ever event of a new promotion. Shouldn't be too much of a stretch for you, should it?

  12. Aside from the Bloodline stuff, this week's highlight was that Pretty Deadly double-team with one being launched/shrugged off the other's back into a codebreaker.

One of those moves that'd be a bit too contrived in terms of set-up to have as a finisher/do every week (so watch them start using it every week...) but the kind of thing that'll pop you every time they use it, used sparingly.

Rather annoying thing with this is that it wasn't thrown together. It had been obvious when the Acclaimed & Billy started teaming regularly it was going to lead to a title challenge. It was like the rankings era where they needed to pad their stats to get to no. 1.

In that month plus of TV did anyone bother to have them interact? Of course not.

    ----

Went back and checked. They won the most recent Trios battle royale. I thought they had lost in that one to derail challenging for the title that early.

It was odd from the get go - they ran the vignette in which the House of Black outlined their new rules, one of which was that the titles are now effectively a permanent open challenge. If there's 3 of you, you're welcome to come have a go, whoever you are.

They then followed that IMMEDIATELY with the trios battle royal, in which the only stakes (judging by the announcers) was climbing some kind of unseen rankings in order to be granted a trios title shot. A trios title shot that the champions had literally just told us any 3 blokes off the street could have if they wanted, cos they just like fighting. The Acclaimed and Billy win.

The payoff to this, of course, is The Acclaimed & Billy getting their title shot by just answering an announced open challenge at the PPV. Where they find themselves on the end of what was pretty much a lengthy, ponderous squash.

I was actually quite excited when HoB announced the Open House concept as it suggested they'd be having loads of those frantic, intense 6 mans like they had with Death Triangle. But it seems to have gone the other way.

For anyone who uses Fite and has seen the bundle offer for the remaining four AEW ppvs for £70, don’t use the app to buy it. Use the actual website. It converts it from dollars and only came to £58.

Cheers for pointing this out, decided to go for it based on that!

Isiah Kassidy is out of the Hardys match

At least he's selling having his neck Pillmanized.

I assumed it was just going to be like the compound match, where he turned up unscathed despite being chokeslammed off a scaffold onto concrete days before.

Yes Boy! Instant favourites. No idea why I was never too fussed when they were in NXT.

It's funny, when they were in NXT UK (a show I kept watching WAY longer than most) I thought they were amongst the least remarkable acts even there, and I was surprised when they got a go in proper NXT.

I gave up being a regular NXT watcher around the time they showed up there so didn't see too much of them in Florida, but what I did see made me think "actually, these guys aren't so bad".

Then they show up on Smackdown and they're fucking great. Trying to figure out if it's my perception that's changed or if they have got that much better.
