Nor is or ever has been AEW a level of threat or internal perception of “the enemy” as WCW was, and they never let “WCW stink” influence a decision. Quid pro quo, Clarice.

Im not saying Rhodes wont get the belt, i just think it wont be by beating Reigns at Mania.

    To use your examples-

Flair won a vacated belt in a Rumble and didnt eliminate Hogan.

Goldberg was beaten by HHH at Summerslam and won the belt the next PPV.

Again I respect your opinion but I think Reigns wins at Mania.

I don't think they care about that. I don't think they ever really cared about that kind of thing. They made Ric Flair the WWF Champion within 3 months of his debut, beating the whole roster in one match, as far back as 91-92. They had former face of WCW Bill Goldberg debut by beating The Rock, then beat Triple H of all people for the version of the World title contested on Eric Bischoff's Raw, ending a PPV with Bill waving around the Big Gold belt synonymous with WCW during the war. They couldn't give a shit what you did elsewhere if they think you're right for them to be on top.

I get your point man but this isnt Ric Flair or Goldberg.

I will gladly show my arse if he wins tho 👍

On the subject of the Grandest Stage Of Them All, will there be a live Discord chat for this Mania? I remember the one for the lockdown Mania which made the event a bit more special personally, that was a mad time for obvious reasons and the live chat was a great laugh.

  3. I would be very suprised if they gave Cody the win at Mania. For the simple reason its the main WWE guy vs the guy who left. Cena v Brock 2012 and HHH v Stang Mania 31 are prime examples.

Edit- ok Stang didnt leave but you get my point.

  4. Mark me down as a "Punk is a whiney little bitch but I love him" guy.

I think ive rewatched that post  All Out tirade more than ive rewatched any wrestling match.

The fella is pure wrestling gold and prefer it when he is on my telly.

Anyone else really liking LA Knight?

I loved his Impact Wrestling days. I love how Wade Barrett talks him up. He seems to be in the top job spot but he definitely does deserve a spot somewhere. You don't get to hear it on TV as it's edited out but the audience do react well to him by doing the "Yeeeahhh" like when he does his promos.

I like LA Knight the same way I liked Kennedy in 06/07.

Solid in ring, solid promo, solid catchphrase.

Only difference between now and then is I thought Kennedy was going to be the next big star when he was always going to be solid upper mid card heel. Same goes for Knight but Knight has about 10 years on 06/07 Kennedy.

If festivals count then my first was the old Matthew Street Festival in Liverpool which my family used to go to every year then I’d go by myself when I was in my mid-late teens which was a fun experience going street to street seeing what local or tribute bands were on

First and only proper gig was, shamefully, Craig David purely as it was a freebie and to chaperone my sister and her friends, a colleague of my mum used to get free tickets to gigs every summer when they’d set up a tented ‘arena’ on the King’s Dock (which at one point was to be Everton’s new stadium and is now the site of the M&S Bank Arena)

The Summer Pops la, saw Peter Kay there. Quality.

  7. First gig was in 2002, I saw The Coral in the Flying Picket, Liverpool city centre- after the gig I got arrested for writing "ROONEY IS GOD" on the Bombed Out Church using one of those chunky marker pens. Good times.

Best gig- 2009, Simple Minds, Echo Arena. Enough said.

Worst gig- last year, dragged to the Echo Arena (is the M&S Arena now but that sounds like a major Tory gaff) by the missus to see McFly.

  8. The Verve- Lucky Man. Cardboard case CD. 10 year old me gave it my best Ashcroft swagger up to the till to purchase this 1997 (or was it 1998) classic in HMV. My musical taste was molded in those early years thru my last 80s/early 90s Manchester scene obsessed Uncle who couldnt go 5 minutes without mentioning how good the Stone Roses Spike Island gig was. I can only be thankful to him as my Dad, who grew up on ELO and Thin Lizzy, had remarried at this point and only listened to Dina Carroll and Celine Dionne. Christ.

My Megadrive 2 came with Mega Games 6, which I think had Alien Storm, Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage,  Super Hang-On, Italia 90 and Columns. I played Alien Storm so much. Managed to get to the last level, but never quite finished it.

Italia 90 was a great game, my cousin also had the fantastically named James Pond aswell.

  10. 91-93 Master System (Alex the Kidd built in)... word on the street is it was called just Alex Kidd though?

93-97 SNES, Mario World, Mario Kart,

    97-02 PS1, Fifa 98,

    02-04 Xbox, Fifa 2003

04-08 PS2 mini, Tiger Woods 2005, San Andreas, Pro Evo 5

    08-09 Wii,

09-21 Nothing, apparently theres this thing called "having a life" that I had a go at but was probably harder than any console game I ever played.

2021- PS4, got round to playing GTAV and RDR2. Oh my.

  11. Just watched the MJF/Bryan promo. Biggest compliment I can give MJF is he reminds me of 80s/early 90s Flair without looking like hes ripping him off. The small nuances he uses in his promo are superb. There is no way he can beat Bryan in an Iron Man match (of course he will) and thats why they will get my money.

Can't say I recall Sharon Davies being a gladiator. But I recall Lightning being ok as well, not a patch on Jet mind you. On the subject of Lightning, she did some sort of signing at the height of the Gladiators craze in my home town. I didn't go but a friend of a friend went and he bragged that he'd given her a proper snog. Completely did not believe it, until he showed us a photo two weeks later (film development time!), and in that little snapshot it did look like he was telling the truth but when you factor in its a quick one off pic, the angle was inconclusive, there would have been quite a line of people waiting for a signature and oh yeah I was 10-11 at the time and he was a year younger so I highly doubt it was exactly how he says it was. I don't think Lightning was prepared to potentially out herself in front of a load of watching eyes too!

I don't think I have many new ones to add to who has already been mentioned. The likes of Jet, Kylie (who I believe was my first celeb crush), Janine Melnitz (cartoon version) Clarissa explains it all/Sabrina. But I remember watching Labyrinth about 1991 ish, and oh my God, Jennifer Connelly was too cute. In the days before on screen TV guides and the internet it took me ages to realise/find out her name. Probably had to wait a year til the film was repeated on TV.

Panther was the thinking mans favourite Gladiator... and by thinking, i mean pulling the head off it.

  13. Punk could have fulfilled his contract with AEW  but it would not have come close to drama and intrigue he created after the All Out PPV. I wont be sad to never see him wrestle again but the fella needs to be thanked for the his muffin meltdown.

  14. Absolutely lapsed WWE fan over here- have not watched since they lost the Sky deal but been an avid viewer of Dynamite for a couple of months now so this Rampage news is very welcome, especially as Jade Cargill (phwoarrr) seems to be exclusively wrestling on Rampage. What a cracking promotion AEW is though, solid matches, solid characters, solid promos (in ring and backstage) and a solid commentary team. Good times.

  15. Long time member but been a permo lurker in recent times, just wanted to come on here and let you guys know that this thread has constantly reassured me there are quality people out there who, without sounding like a school prefect, follow the rules and actually give a fuck about people. So yeah, nice one. *shuffles back under rock*

  16. That stat about Anderson taking over 350 wkts at an average of 23 since turning 30 is insane.

I can see him playing 2 or 3 Ashes tests in the winter due to the way his workload is being managed as Devon said (Jimmy, Broady, Wood, Archer and Stokes down under- phwoar) and then being given a heros send off the following summer after the series' against NZ and SA that are planned.

A 5-fer at Trent Bridge to sign off would be special.

  17. Obligatory Chet Lemon and Black Snow mention. Ive only ever watched that episode of Impact once and 22 year old me thought it was hysterical. I dread to think what 33 year old me makes of it.

I used to enjoy JR and Cornette on Raw back in the day- admittedly they were/are both ultra serious but 1998 was a serious time god dammit.
