  1. I went to see a Villa match in 93 and remember seeing a poster with Axis the Demolisher on it, which was Demolition Ax under a copyright free version of the name I believe? Can’t find much about it online, but it must have been a show in Brum somewhere

  2. When we were kids Viennetta was strictly for special occasions (birthday/christmas party's etc) so I always assumed they were expensive at the time.
Crazy thing is they are cheaper now than they were on that advert from 1993 on page 1!  Totally worth it though, the architecture of a Viennetta is a thing of beauty.

Managed to nab tickets for Blur in Wolverhampton in May, for one of their warm-up gigs. Seeing them elsewhere in June, but at big fuck-off stadiums/venues.

This one’s in a little sweaty hall; there’ll be elbows everywhere and probably piss on the floor. The very best gigs are small ones and as one of my favourites ever was seeing them at the Royal Court in 1997, I can’t wait. If they can replicate a tenth of that, I’ll be made up.

Sure, they’ve got fatter, older and slower. I’m their perfect audience member!

I saw them at Newhampton Arts Center in Wolverhampton a few years ago. I think the capacity there was about 200.

  4. Basically the initial plan was just to update wrestlefest with new characters.  Then once the head development guy started looking into how to build the new moves etc into the game, they started looking into other additions like ‘hey maybe we could throw opponents into he corner and do moves there too…’ and slowly it moved further and further away from the initial plan.

I guess once they started to look at the development time/costs, they figured it would be better to build it into its own entity and try to monetise it and license new guys etc.

personally I think we should have just stuck with the original plan of keeping the game the same and just expanding the roster and making it free for all.

  5. A few years ago I got involved in a bit of a homebrew scene that were going to update Wrestlefest to include new characters etc (which eventually evolved into Retromania Wrestling).
I worked on a few different characters and just found this on an old memory stick.  Thought you guys might like it :)

Ha, fuck me I didn't know SF2 was on the Spectrum. I bet that took hours to load. I'm a big fan of squeezing games onto consoles they're too advanced for. Mortal Kombat 3 came out on the Master System in Brazil!

There was a disclaimer at the start which basically said due to the hardware limitations the game is going to be nothing like what you play in the arcades etc.

  7. I had a wrestling game on the spectrum where it would do a little interview before the match, and after you selected a response to the question you would have to press play on the tape and let the game load for another 5 minutes.  Can’t remember the name of it but I’m pretty sure Bulldog was in it.

I also had a Street Fighter 2 game where you had to re-load the game after every round. Mental considering where gaming has progressed to now!

I’ve got an old wwf watch from the early 90s which is Hogan vs Rude, and I think all you can do is either a kick or a punch, and that still kept me entertained for ages

  8. I think affecting the quality off the podcast is a bit off, as they always find a way to segue into something really funny despite the blandness of the performers at the time.  They definitely have to allow themselves to go a little more off-track at times though… Greg Valentine’s Bird Blood being a lovely example lol

  9. You won’t regret it matey 100% the funniest wrestling podcast, and doesn’t rely on cheesy catchphrases/gimmicks etc. being uk based there’s a lot of references for our demographic which make it really relatable too.  Really can’t praise it enough.

Until you've sat through two seasons of the MTV Scream series that I'm pretty certain was made for 12-16 year old girls, you don't get to express regret!

….and the random scooby-doo style episode on the island….and the reboot of the tv series with candyman in it….

  11. Sticking those 4 sticker ones in was such a stressful experience! If you got a dodgily cropped one you ended up with some pretty odd looking shots!

On a side note, it blows my mind that I had such an encyclopedic knowledge of my needs and swaps back then!  There was 479 stickers in that 93 premier league album, and most kids had that and the wrestling one on the go at the same time!  Imagine trying to remember which of 900 stickers you needed these days!

  12. It’s crappy, but they use this ‘dynamic pricing’ technique on most larger events and pretty much every event in the USA.  If you buy early you pay more but you know you have got a ticket, if it sells badly and you bide your time you can get a much better deal, but if it sells out you are screwed.

I’ve had a few events where they have moved us closer when we actually get to the venue if it hasn’t sold-out, so you might still have a chance even if you don’t get anywhere with customer services…

I noticed at the weekend they have started advertising tickets for the event on buses here in the West Midlands, so I am guessing they still have a fair few tickets to shift? That’s a bloody long bus ride!

  13. I know I shouldn't care anymore but isn't that bret photo on the cover from around 1996? Also, I can't remember them using that logo for Bulldog until much later too?

I think a vintage style version of the original case would have looked way better? Sort of like how stranger things do their dvds.

I'm calling shenanigans on the summerslam kid.

that is an excellent pub quiz trivia question.

My favourite along similar lines is that there's only one instance (I think this is true!) where a song was knocked off the number one spot by a song the title of which was contained within the lyrics of the first song...do you follow that? It was in 1976...

      Reveal hidden contents

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was replaced at number one by "Mamma Mia".

Don't Turn Around by Aswad was knocked-off the top by Heart by the Pet Shop Boys, unless I have misunderstood the rules haha.

  15. There's a great episode where he takes his family on holiday to the seaside, but its all just a cunning plan to do some work for a bloke in exchange for a part for his steam engine.  I hope everyone had a grandad like him.

Now Chella Toys have started their Hasbro style line, which so far officially includes Nick Aldis, Blue Meanie and Ethan Page, it was a matter of time before someone had a punt at the Hasbro style line to compete.

Cardona & Myers have released proto pics of their new line, which is also on the Hasbro style. Basically styled from Hasbro series 1 Hogan & Warrior molds. More names to be added apparently. Regardless of how the figures turn out, I honestly can’t speak highly enough about the lads designing the figures. Tippy is the lad doing all of the concept art for Chella and TTD does all of the Major Pod art and attire designs. Both really sound lads from over here.

Here’s my Aldis figures and a pic of Cardona & Myers protos.

I designed the card/logo for the Chella figures.  They came out really nice.
