The thing with the balcony in One is how they also use it for some “Guests” of the bands. Last time I went there a band member gave a shout out to his family who were up in the balcony. Without meaning to sound ungrateful, it’s a shame that the disabled have to give up what few provisions there are so that able bodied guests are catered for. The staff at Academy are brilliant though, want to make that clear. 

I was going to say at the brum one they used to kinda just let band members and Shan gets-on wander up there as it was basically a balcony area.

if you could get standard tickets and just have a friendly word with the security/staff I am sure they would let you up there, as they normally have extra room for the bands/guest list etc anyway?

or If you would rather not chance it on the night you could always just message one of the support acts as I’m guessing they would be easier to contact directly than the headliner?

It might have been my first gig, that or AC/DC, but still the ping pong bitches stand out as the worst musical act I've ever seen and I don't think anyone in the room that night thought different. The cheer that went up when they said the next one was the last song was something.

There were tons of bands called hey pablo for a few months in the early 2000s lol 

keith, is the accessible bit a separate sectioned-off area of the venue? Not too familiar with it

We played with Electric Six once, they were nobs. Pissed around for 3 hours so none of the other bands got a soundcheck and other general shithousery

The substitution situation is getting really silly now. Is the health and safety stuff too on the ball these days for a show like this to work as a tournament?  In series 2 of the original show Deane had a huge cut right between his eyes, they just stuck a plaster over it and he carried on.

10 points) Street Fighter 2 - just immensely playable. Great characters and beautiful design.  It’s 33 years old now and I still play it on a weekly basis.  I remember finding an arcade in Paignton that gave you a free credit if you turned the machine on/off at the wall, so me and the group of mates I made on my summer holiday that year played it to death.

9 points) Wrestlefest - I adored this as a kid, and my dad still tells stories of how he’d find my drenched of sweat in the arcade, desperately trying to beat LOD on my only credit.  The style captures the vibrancy of early 90s WWF so perfectly. I have had many battles with emulators over the years, trying to get this up and running on a variety of devices. I guess that is part of the beauty of it, being so simple, you can literally play it on anything.

8 points) Red Dead Redemption 2 - I’ve never really gotten into too many story driven games (I guess I have never really been home enough to get into them and dedicate the time to them) but I loved the original RDR and this just took things to another level!

7 points) Vice City - I love most things 80s, and this was a perfect combination for me. Really wish they would revisit this era.

6 points) UFC undisputed 3 - landed at the height of my MMA fandom really. I was training BJJ/Muay Thai/MMA most nights of the week, and have always love Pride FC. They really need to make a throwback UFC game with just classic guys where there was more variety between the fighters. Modern games where they all have the same skills and moves are just dull.  The EA games are dire in comparison.

5 points) Red Dead Redemption 1 - this came along while I was saving for a mortgage, so I was trying to be a bit more frugal and stay home more. Perfect timing to really get invested in a game. The undead nightmare expansion is such a great add-on too!

4 points) Metal Gear Solid - so clever and ahead of its time with some of the things you had to do in this game. Don’t think I would have worked out some of the bits without my mates helping….were games better pre-internet when you couldn’t just watch a walkthrough?

3 points) Mario Kart Wii - such a great party game! Anyone can play it instantly without any gaming experience and it’s just fun.

2 points ) Guitar Hero - same as above really. Although I always find it annoying that some of the songs are harder to play/learn in the game than actually playing them on a real guitar. Seems a bit of a waste of time lol

1 point) Tony Hawk Skateboarding - landed at the perfect time for my adolescent mind with American Pie and Blink 182 etc. Awesome soundtracks and really innovative games. Haven’t played it in forever, but just so much nostalgia for it and the scene that came with it.

struggled way more than I thought I would with this list.  Considering I have had a console from every generation, it is surprising how few games have really left a lasting impression on me.

Computer games? Arcade/console? Board games? Games?  What are we ranking matey?

The weird thing is none of the gladiators are particularly good at any of the games, and some of them look just as nervous as the competitors.  Definitely feels like they are a bit undertrained in the events.

Any ideas how the fines on the shopping task work on the apprentice?  For some of the expensive stuff it seems like you’d be better off not buying the item and getting the fine?

Yehh I would say the vast majority of edits are just people realising their phones have auto-corrected something and their post no longer makes sense…that’s what I usually get.

a lot of this is a bit lost on me really.  Is it just one of the familiarity breeds contempt things where peoples traits have just grown under folks skin, or was there any actual calculated malicious intent there?

i used to take my mom to do the big shop every week.  Routinely she would forget something, dash back into the shop, and after paying would start getting back into some random persons car while I sat there pissing myself.
It was always Wednesday night, and there would usually be about 4 other cars on the carpark.

I hate how you barely ever seen hasbro/galoob figures at carboots now, and when you do the seller thinks they are worth 15 quid despite the fact their dog has been chewing on them for 20 years. 

Never had much luck in charity shops for wrestling stuff

That Reading when they played the big tent was amazing. One of my favorite memories.

They played an impromptu gig on the campsite too. 

We went to see Frenzal Rhomb in Leicester, and Neil and Chas from Lightyear randomly turned up dressed as Mr T and Bulley from Bullseye... They had filmed the video for 'Pack of Dogs' that day, and dropped in to the gig on the way back home. 

'Uri Geller Bent My Heart' is such an amazing song title lol
