  1. Is the WWE's business really that bad financially though? It is amazing that they have not created any stars but still manage to be so profitable. The business model is completely different to way back when.

In their defense I think their biggest problem is the talent pool that they have to choose from. There just aren't many good looking, charismatic lads with the typical main event physique around who want to be wrestlers. If your looking for your 15 minutes of fame your best route isn't something as hard and as dangerous as pro wrestling. At the moment there are probably more two box guys than I can ever remember but none with the magic three (size/look, charisma, ability).

  2. Given that Reigns appears to be in the doghouse, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Rusev goes over.

Rusev should defo go over, they aren't going to get a better opportunity to rehab him into the main event monster heel he should have become after Mania vs Cena. Reigns wouldn't be damaged all that much, in fact it might even be good for him.

  3. He is in a weird position because he is probably better suited to being a heel but his gimmick has the Rey Mysterio/Jeff Hardy merch potential and I don't think WWE will want to lose out on that. I watched that Fergal Devitt documentary on iplayer and it was striking how different he came across. I do hope that he is just poorly cast in his current role and will thrive with a bit of work. Everyone thought AJ would flounder when having to do more mic work but that hasn't really happened so there is a precedent.

    I do wonder if the

announcement on Raw of a cruiserweight division

is perhaps a way of getting Balor over without exposing him too much.

  4. How does a lad need to sell a leg nowadays? Does it need to be hanging by a tendon? His selling lead to the first Kinshasa kick-out on WWE TV, and he looked in right agony having finally hit the finish, was good enough for me. Loved the bit where Balor hits a heavy leg kick and Naka's leg 'buckled', for some reason my fav bit of the whole thing

Don't want him to be lying around like Dolph Ziggler, I just found it slightly annoying that Balor was working the leg the whole match which is the logical approach to (kayfabe) take against Nakamura but he went on to hit all of normal offense no problem irregardless. Would have liked to have seen the work by his opponent play into the story of the match a little more.

  5. Ad breaks killed the momentum of the match which really took me out of it at points. I thought it was one of Balor's best WWE performances, he was a bit more ruthless than normal. Nakamura didn't sell the leg as much as I would have liked when he was on offense either. Still, it was cool to see and I think they could have a mega match against each other somewhere down the line.

  6. There's no way that Nakamura/Balor match is happening at Full Sail in three (TV) weeks. Unless your named TNA you don't throw a massive match like that away on the regular TV show.

NXT doesn't really work within that model as the network is the only place to see it no matter if it is on a Takeover or weekly TV. they probably look at it as having marquee matches on the weekly show are a way of keeping people subscribed.

  7. Womens match was the best thing in the first half easily. I really enjoyed that match and Dahlia Black in particular was really impressive. Didn’t think the Damon Moser/Origin bit did anyone any favours – from the plastic chair shots to Zack Gibson’s Tommy End starter kit line which was way more cutting and accurate than had been attended. Thought he looked a bit of a joke.

Loved FSU (that top rope Hurricanrana was sick) and the main event more than lived up to the hype. They had me a few times soon even though I was 99% sure going in that Marty retained there was some brilliant near falls.

Best thing for me was watching the Mrs attending her first indy show and being really into it. She commented that sitting so close to the ring gave you more of an appreciation of what they do and is already looking forward to going again in August. Big plus for me!

  8.

Finished Day 2 of SSS16 last night. Probably my favourite Progress show so far. All the matches were enjoyable. Bearing in mind that I don't watch ENDVR who is Roy Johnson? Really impressed me in the wasteman challenge.

Card for Sunday looks solid, looking forward to it.

I'll tell you one thing. He's no wasteman

Ha. A quick google revealed a youtube video with the exact title 'Who is Roy Johnson' too.

  9. I thought day 1 was actually the better card top to bottom. Haskin-Dunne was great, even better knowing the condition Haskins was in. Bit late to the Progress party, but the Haskins story being played out over the pass few months has been great, I'm assuming he would of just followed Andrews route to the final and then go on to face Whiplash this weekend, so hopefully he's back and continuing that, he's match with Scrull a few months ago was great story telling.

Chris Hero proved yet again why he's probably one of the best in the world at the moment. He had 3 different matches with 3 different types of wrestlers over the weekend and all were fantastic. His match with Mark Andrews deserves all the plaudits it's getting, great little man vs big man match, the big man match with Big Daddy Walters was a great big man match, but probably 3rd of his matches this weekend, and then the storyline driven match with Tommy End in a hard hitting match. Hero's Morishima-esque body type and aura just adds so much more than how he used to be, in my opinion. Hero Vs Villian, should sell itself, don't smell a title change unfortunately, but haven't finished Evolves shows this weekend so he might be coming in as Evolve champion anyway.

Zack Gibson grows on me show by show, and really liked his match with Kenny Williams. Never been a fan of Callian, like his work but not his gimmick so have trouble looking pass that, haven't seen Matt Cross since his Resilience days, outside of his look, still does his same old shtick and does it very well. And the Riots and Orgin was a well done brawl with lots of twists and turns and great to finish of London Riots rise to the titles over the pass few months following th SDS stuff. And Jack Gallagher is an awesome throwback and his day 2 he had a really good match with Gibson.

Gibson's gimmick just lends itself so well to the adult crowds on the Brit scene and he works the crowd so well. Him reciting the exact same promo for the second time that day was hilarious. His match with Gallagher was really great fun (Boo/Yay pin trades). Hero had a shitload of good matches but the one versus Big Daddy Walter was my fave just because it was a bit different to everything else. Like has been mentioned he would have been a big deal if he had sorted out his appearance. Scurll v Hero should be top notch. Callihan is terrible, can't think of any redeeming features. Not sure if it was just because of a blown spot in the corner but Callihan using that insane tombstone as a a non-finish was everything people criticise indy wrestling for rolled into one.

  11. Watched Day 1 of SSS16 last night, can't wait for day 2 to go up!

Really enjoyed Hero v Andrews, Rampage v End and the last few minutes of Riots v Origin were brilliant.

That pop when they even played the Riots music was completely insane. Got to be one of the biggest I've ever seen from a UK show. Loved Joel taking out Ligero too, even though he no sold a bump in the corner that would have put most wrestling refs in a coma.

Going to the June Ritz show with the Mrs which will be her first indy show ...Her main takeaway from the bits if SSS we watched together seemed to be Chris Hero's Dad Bod though, not sure that bodes well!

  12. Yes the gimmick is pretty much him being a everyday normal guy but in the ring a Swiss Superman. Hence the suit thing and then ripping it off.

Not saying I like the gimmick or even Cesaro but that is what it is.

Makes sense, but then how does the 007 thing fit in? It's like someone has pitched him four different gimmicks and he's just thought fuck it, let's do all of them!

  13. That Cesaro/Miz segment was one of the most painful things I have watched in ages. Shame as I enjoyed Miz and Maryse last week but that Taken part was whack.

The best thing about Cesaro is that everytime they try and give him a singles run he gets a little bit worse than his last one. He is a great tag team guy who can put in good quality singles matches but I have no desire to see him in a singles feud whatsoever. He is this era's Billy Gunn.

Jericho/Zayn was better than AJ/Jericho but Zayn has an ability to gel quickly with any style. AJ is doing surprisingly well in WWE...I am interested in his feud with Reigns as they could take it in about four directions that would all interest me. I think they are doing the right thing not turning Reigns as well, riding it out might be the best plan after all.

Bullet club reform under AJ or align with a debuting Finn Balor, Gallows/Anderson turn on AJ and either join up with Reigns (less likely) or join The Authority.
  14. Also on board with this show, fun from Start to finish. Nice to see NXT Sami show up...I said last year that Sami could walk into the Daniel Bryan babyface role and he has done well so far.

This was Cesaro's worst showing in WWE amd he was given every chance to shine. He is best as a tag team guy in WWE, I think that is his ceiling.

  15. I know it’s only because it was new and differ, but I got serious goosebumps watching Wyatt play the part of ‘hot tag’.

On the flip side, I think they should have held off on the big Gallows/Anderson debut until it was relevant to someone like Styles or Balor. And on the flip side to that, that was some fucking hiding they gave the Usos.

Quite like the intrigue of who they are going to join up with. A stable with AJ with Finn joining a bit later on would be awesome.

  16. Balor Club is fucking stupid sounding .

It's going to lead to animosity and there'll be no swapping or ousting of leaders like there was in the BC. And if they do swap leaders, do they just say Styles Club (which essentially sounds like a barbers), or Gallows Club or Heaven forbid they're relegated to jobber status on the main roster and Tyson Kidd takes the reins?

Bullet Proof is decent...but Balor Club...no. It's stupid. You'll all see!!!

Totally agree with this. Besides, it's not like he needs a stable as he never does jobs and is undefeated when wearing the paint on NXT.
