Two confessions possibly ruining my cred in here: I have never had a scallop (dont think I've ever seen them sold anywhere I've been) and I still dont know what cod roe is.

Scallops are mash covered in batter. Basically smiley faces from the chippy. Cod roes is fish eggs, which are nice, but can be really salty.

A couple of scallops in a batch make for a lovely greasy snack.

Let's not start the bap, barm, cob, roll debate. Though I am sure 95% or higher would tell you that no one calls it a batch.

That sounds pretty good. Did you do anything to dry out the jalapenos or just a quick drain?

I just drained them and added them afterwards, because not everyone likes them. Normally I will just fish them out of the jar and add them to the base sauce.

  4. I am sure that playlist on shuffle will cause sonic whiplash, with it bouncing between genres and styles. Perfect for being an annoying cunt when giving people lifts in the car.

My fiancee and I have really got into KeyForge as well - it is such a well designed game and I love the way you don't have to worry about designing your own deck.

I can't say I really got into Keyforge. A big thing is it just works about playing cards to create a little machine that creates shards. There isn't any real interaction with the opponent's cards. Also since you're going into a deck blind and some of them seem to not really have any way to win.

Is it worth picking up the new D&D Essentials set? I'm an absolute novice but it's something I've wanted to try for ages. Looks like it's got a load of good stuff included but would appreciate the opinion of any seasoned players as if it's good value for money.

Looking at what you get it's a thing to get you onto D&D beyond. That's because it comes with a half price code for the Player's Handbook. So you still need to spend extra money for that. D&D Beyond is great for creating characters quickly, it would definitely help new players for creating custom characters.

The main thing I took away from reading about it is it's essentially for playing single player games with assistant characters, but the sidekick rules can be used just for NPCs. It definitely looks like a better entryway than the starter kit that came out.

It’s weird, D&D used to be really complicated, then they simplified it, and simplified it and now it sounds like it’s crazy complicated again.

Actually it is really simple. In the campaign book you will have a number you need to roll higher than. If you roll high enough then you kill the dragon/ slay the necromancer etc.

  8. If none of you have played it before then the main thing is whoever the dungeon master is has at least a basic grasp of the rules. There are tons of videos on YouTube explaining the basics.

As for time and distance within combat each round of combat equals 6 seconds and everything is technically happening at once. At the start of combat you roll for initiative, so roll a D20 and then add the initiative modifier. The same goes for the monsters you are in combat with. So the turn order goes from highest to lowest roll. To figure out how to hit you need to roll higher than the monster's armour class, so if something has an AC 11, you need to roll a total of 12 or higher. A weapon's stat will be something like  +3  2D6+2. This means that D20 you rolled to you add 3 to it. If you roll a 9 and add 3 you get 12 which is higher than 11 so you have hit. Then for damage you roll 2D6 and add 2. So you will do a minimum of  4 points of damage  to a maximum of 14.

Distance is something you can muddle through without a map, but you can get blank maps with a grid. Just remember that say it says you have 30ft movement that means you can move 30 feet and attack. You could also move 60 and do nothing else. Just remember that there is a load of online resources and just Google what you are having trouble with.

  9. @tiger_rick my top tip for Mac and cheese is chucking in a couple of table spoons of Philadelphia in with the bechamel base. Then topping with Parmesan and crushed up tortilla chips and banging it up the grill to brown it on top. This adds a crusty top to it which adds a nice mix of a creamy base with some texture from the tortilla.

  10. I have gone through every stage of the Bristol stool scale over 3 main sessions. A combination of being backed for a few days, gorging myself on Saturday at a Chinese buffet and several ales. All led to  unintentionally doing a colonic cleaning.

The Bristol stool scale, hidden from the squeamish.

That's probably the biggest reason why the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth continue to thrive, whereas many other traditional seaside towns, such as the Margates and Yarmouths, are nowhere near the places they once were. Students are constantly pumping money into their economy all year round.

Brighton has a combination of being geographically close to London, students and the gays for its prosperity. Bournemouth has Poole and Weymouth nearby which are much more tourism based economically. Being close to Southampton which is another university helps and you get gangs of students going to Bournemouth on the piss at weekends. The rest of Dorset is a bit of a wasteland as far as anything resembling a nightlife.

  12. Bournemouth being a uni town means it is still relatively busy over the winter months. Even during the summer when the students fuck off, you get a ton of tourists. It isn't like many of the Devon coastal towns that die off from October to April.

It's fine if you don't like it, but to call it paint by numbers is just stupid.

It does hit so many of the cliches though. "Kooky" female lead and shy, quiet male lead, eho she slowly gets to break out of his shell. Nonlinear narrative, which has a become an overused storytelling mechanic. There is a reason these have become tropes of these big budget indies.

Man On The Moon, Then The Truman Show, then Enternal Sunshine is Jim Carrey's top 3.

Firstly it's spelled eternal, secondly it's just a paint by numbers indie wankfest of a film.

I assume you all you Nachos and Cheese Odeon lovers don't have a Taco Bell nearby?

There are only 3 in the country and they're shittier than the septic ones.
