  1. While I hope we never see Flair anywhere near a wrestling ring again, I really hope they produce these "Jim Crockett" shows every year. With thousands of fans in town for Starrcast anyway, and with Conrad being the shill that he is, it feels like a no brainer to bring together non-WWE companies for a supercard of some sort.

  2. I have a pretty sick sense of humour, but making slut jokes about women to their faces will never fail to make me feel uncomfortable.

There were quite a few genuine belly laughs though, best one being the aforementioned Chris Jericho's wife one.

  3. I watched it until Flair's entrance and while I was dreading him bleeding all over the place, seeing how old and fucked he looked just walking to the ring made me tag out.  I hate excessive blood at the best of times, but the thought was too much.

I was genuinely expecting to wake up today to read he was back in hospital or dead, so at least that's something.

The undercard was really good I thought, just a shame the crowd was so dead for all of it. Also loved the announce team and JCP notalgic presentation.

Definitely need to see more of Jacob Fatu v Josh Alexander and really hope the rumours of Bandido signing with Impact are true.

(Very underrated Lawler backstage promo too. "This young man here".)

  4. I really can't see Triple H's rise to power being good news at all for Impact, MLW etc.

If he's going to restock NXT's roster then you know what direction they're going to look towards, given AEW wrestlers seem to be on longer contracts than the rest.

I was more than content with crazy Vince only signing college nobodies tbh...

They were full time there before the company had all their problems and got bought by Khan. They have such history with ROH it’s hard not to fathom them being re-signed.

Fuck sakes, was hoping they'd be back on Impact.

Does Real Mans Man Steven Regal change to William Regal count? Because if so that’s my pick. That run from debut, through European Champion to tagging with Tajiri and becoming commissioner was an excellent run. Or at least through my rose tinted specs.

I enjoyed the 1993 bland babyface Steve Regal morphing into Lord Steven w/ Sir William more than anything he did in the WWF tbh. What a joy it was and you could also tell that they were having a great time. The WCW character always felt a bit more organic than the forced WWE stuff.

Used to tickle my Dad that he insisted on being announced in stones rather than American lbs, which was quite a feat given how much he hated wrestling.

Could surely have dropped Blackpool for Windsor or something after the turn though!

  7. I'd be much more comfortable if this was a six man tag or something, where he can have his big entrance and do his spots without being too taxing on his body.

The thought of him wrestling a one on one match makes me shudder.

Its clear they know this is going to be shit as they've started to stack the undercard, which at the moment is more interesting that the yet to be announced main event.

  8. To be honest I was never a fan of his anyway. Fine as a midcarder in WCW, but as workrate and in-ring ability has never really bothered me, my thought at the time was that the WWE had become desperate/gone to the dogs when it was decided that he (and even Eddie Guerrero if I'm brutally honest) were World Title calibre wrestlers. It might as well had been Lance Storm as far as I was concerned.

Even with that in mind, how do you stomach such a thing? Like many others have mentioned, the tribute show was a weird one and it was clear that some talking heads weren't into it 100%.

  9. I find it somewhat ironic, given Ric Flair hasn't had a good word to say about TNA/Impact since leaving, that there's an Impact heavyweight title match and the MCMG v the Wolves taking place on his retirement card...

Impact clearly has some involvement in this given they've used their footage and even lead announcer for the voiceover.

    I don't get it...

I find it really odd that people are talking about AEW on a pro wrestling message board in 2022, and they watch the week-to-weeks and PPVs, and they've got Hangman Page avatars and they are talking about how Forbidden Door needs Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi...

These same people haven't seen an Okada match? He's been heavily involved in MOTY discussions for the past ten years, and his best matches are readily and easily available to watch right now with a few mouse clicks, and these same people are talking about Okada's "first impression"?

Sorry guys, I don't buy it. It just doesn't hit the ear right.

But if I told you that there was a 5 star match on Impact last week, how many members of the board would genuinely check it out and how many would probably not bother as they don't watch the show week to week and aren't inclined to care?

People are pretty tribal when it comes to wrestling, moreso than they'd like to admit at times.

I started watching again during the AEW crossover and I am enjoying it. It's just a simple, straight forward wrestling promotion. I do feel a bit bad for Scott D'Amore. He's done a great job both times he's been booking and it's a shame he got pushed out when they had the Spike deal.

In a way Scott D'amore's perfect for the modern day Impact. He was closely enough involved that he still has the contacts to bring people in,  yet he wasn't prominent enough to be accused of carrying out some of the past crimes.

I'm probably wrong (and this is wrestling after all), but I can't recall many people hating his guts or being scathing about him tbh.

  12. TBH I also detest how 'fake news' has been allowed to be absorbed into the lexicon.

It was a phrase popularised by Trump to try and slur accurate reporting, just because he didn't like what was said.

It grinds my gears to hear it used day to day.

TNA was the main thing I watched for many years, and always enjoyed it.  Unlike most people, I love the Hogan/Monday wars era - I loved seeing The Band, and Hogan v Sting, and all the craziness.  It was the right blend of new, young talent, old grizled vets, general insanity, randomness.  Nash in the X Division was another highlight, it's rare for wrestling to be genuinely funny but that was.

Agreed. I didn't really start watching TNA properly until 2007, so didn't feel the same outrage that some did when they came in and undid some of the things that TNA fans loved the most.

2010 was pretty rough but the Hogan/Bischoff era was pretty good in 2011 and I'd count 2012/13 as my favourite TNA period. Slammiversary 2012 ranks within my top 5 Wrestling PPVs of all time, easily.

  14. In fairness there have been several times when it was genuinely looking the case.

The Health South money suddenly stopping and Panda cutting the credit line immediately spring to mind.

Then there was that nonsense with Arolouxe and the Harris Brothers and Billy Corgan financing a couple of sets of tapings because Dixie Carter's credit card had maxed out.

Its ridiculous that its still around but I love that it is.
