  1. Been watching TUF 4:The Comeback on DVD over the last week or so.People shit on this season but I can honestly say it's been much better than I remember it being at the time.

Shonie Carter was awesome throughout the season and the part in the DVD where he's teaching GSP how to walk like a pimp was pretty funny.

Watching TUF 4 again also reminded me why I used to like Matt Serra.I soured on Serra after the first GSP fight because I thought he came off as a bit of a prick after he won the belt and through the rematch and TUF 6 I found him annoying. He's kind of grew on me again since though and I loved the video blogs he did before the fight with Trigg.

Serra's verbal annihilation of Marc Laimon was priceless and was the highlight of the season for me.

The rest of the season had Jeremy Jackson being a fucking idiot and getting kicked off the show,Charles McCarthy being nicknamed Captain Miserable and Rich Franklin's 'take a knee' advice to Serra.

The extra scenes and stuff on the DVD are really good.I was cracking up at Pete Sell getting pissed and everyone getting pissed off at Scott Smith for constantly farting.Din Thomas' reaction to one of Smith's farts was classic "Why did you do that? You saw I just opened up my coffee.....I don't want shit flavoured coffee"

The finale wasn't that good but it did have the classic Smith-Sell fight on it.Serra-Lytle was as disappointing as I'd remembered it being sadly. But some decent stuff still on the finale.

Overall a really fun season.I enjoyed it a lot more than I have TUF 10 and 11 to be honest.

  2. Rosi Sexton is out of the Bellator womens tournament and Zoila Frausto is replacing her.Makes sense.Rosi has posted online that she will be back in Bellator soon at 115 lbs.

    frausto-knee_medium.jpg

    Zoila Frausto

  3. Bumped this for Bellator 23.

    Anyone saw this yet?

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

The knock out of Rosi Sexton by Zoila Frausto was fucking nasty stuff.

Shame to see Sexton lose like that but what a finish from Zoila.

Also Joe Warren and Alexander Shlemenko took the tournament finals in their weight classes.

  4. How did I forget Condit vs Miura from WEC 35? That was a great fucking fight that one. That was the first time I'd seen Condit fight and I made sure to keep an eye on him after.

And I'd like to add my love for WEC 41.It was the best MMA show of 2009 IMO (well from the ones I'd seen anyway). Not a bad fight to be found and the Brown-Faber 2 and Banuelos-Jorgensen fights are proper classics. The rest of the card is filled with quick fights and cool finishes.Jose Aldo's performance especially was breath taking.

  5. Oh yeah I forgot all about the Couture-Wanderlei face off at the end.Shame it never happened back then when both guys were at their peak.

I wouldn't be surprised if that fight still happens before one of them retires.Obviously it wouldn't be as big as it would have been in 2004 but a nice legends fight.

  6. Oh yeah that was one of the best KO's I've ever seen

    yveskojosh.gif

    Ouch!

UFC 49 was a fine card.Chuck Liddell vs Vernon White was a very enjoyable beatdown and the grappling masterclass put on by Nick Diaz and Karo Parisyan in their fight was a blast to watch.Great fight.

The only fight that I thought was a bit flat was Randy-Vitor 3.Randy absolutely dominated Belfort pretty much into submission. Not a terribly exciting fight but we've all seen far worse for sure.

At least it wasn't as big a letdown as Randy-Vitor 2 with the eyepoke finish less than a minute into the fight. That's gotta be the biggest anti climax to a UFC main event/title fight in history. In Pride it would have to be Fedor-Nog 2 with the head clash/cut stoppage which was a disaster for the 2004 GP Final.

  7. Put it this way I'd rather watch Saku-Gracie once a week for the rest of my life than have to sit through Shamrock-Gracie 2,Shamrock-Severn 2 or Severn-Kimo once ever again

is that the fight from Pride 1? Worst fight ever!

That's the one.Complete abortion of a fight. The only thing I liked about it was hearing Bas and Stephen Quadros gradually losing the will to live on commentary.Even the super polite Japanese crowd were shitting on it.

  8. I watched a fun one last night from Hero's 2005:The Beginning. It was Joachim Hansen vs Caol Uno in a really entertaining ground battle with reversals galore. It also ends with a devastating and totally out of the blue KO. Apologies if this one has been mentioned im lazy, if not-enjoy :)

That really was a great fight. It was back and forth but I really thought Uno was heading to a decision win and then Hansen just cracked him with a big knee and he was spark out with about 10 seconds of the fight to go.

the Rampage Jackson vs. Dan Henderson fight on that set goes for the full 25 minutes, so it could have just been a timme thing. The Couture/Sylvia fight is on the Ultimate 100 Greatest Fights set, which i recomend to everyone, its worth every penny

Yeah they probably didn't wanna include two 5 rounders so they went with the better fight.

  9. Was this released when Couture was at odds with the company? The fight really wasn't all that much kop, but considering it was Couture you would expect it to be on there. Surprised there is no Leonard Garcia/Roger Huerta, and Stout/Fisher is a forgotten classic and main evented one of the better Fight Night cards. I remember absolutely nothing of Florian/Mishima so I dont know if that was any good or just my anti-KenFlo kicking in so I automatically erase him from my mind. Davis/Taylor was a cracking short fight, and Davis was pretty lucky that the fight never got stopped when he was getting pounded on as the ref could have easily called it.

Yeah it was released after Randy left the UFC so thats probably one of the reasons its not on there.Florian vs Mishima was decent enough but nowt special.Huerta vs Garcia,Griffin vs Tavares and Parisyan vs Burkman were all more deserving

    fights from 07.

Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell,Matt Wiman vs Michihiro Omigawa,Matt Grice vs Jason Black were all really good fights from that year aswell.

I wouldn't put Couture - Sylvia on a best of. Apart from a couple of nice takedowns and the initial right cross. The fight is nothing to write home about.

Yeah it wasn't a great fight but it was one of the biggest moments of 07 and a great moment. The crowd reaction when Sylvia got knocked on his arse was probably the loudest I've heard a UFC crowd on TV.Shame not much happened after that punch but still.

The unedited version of Royce & Saku is a loooooong viewing my friend haha. I've only ever sat through the whole fight once. I dunno how the fans in attendance managed to do so. The result of the fight being so bloody long was despite Saku winning he could not go through in the tournament.

Is it full fights on the best of? If so I'm guessing the reason they'd leave off Couture-Sylvia*Besides the obvious* would be that the fight went 25 minutes?

The fights are all in full and you're probably right about the time constraints. The only fight included that went 5 rounds was Rampage vs Hendo and that was a much better fight than Couture vs Sylvia.

Saku vs Royce is worth watching at least once IMO.I watched the full version fairly recently on the Pride GP DVD and, although there's a ton of stalling as you'd expect from a 90 minute match involving Royce especially,it has it's moments (Sakuraba provides pretty much all the moments). It's not a fight you'll likely watch more than once but it's one worth seeing if only for the significance of the fight and the crowd reaction when the Gracie's throw the towel in.

Put it this way I'd rather watch Saku-Gracie once a week for the rest of my life than have to sit through Shamrock-Gracie 2,Shamrock-Severn 2 or Severn-Kimo once ever again

  10. I been watching the UFC Best Of 2007 DVD over the last couple of days.

Its a great collection and Id recommend anyone just getting into MMA to get it.A great DVD to introduce someone to MMA.

Frankie Edgar vs Tyson Griffin (UFC 67)

Martin Kampmann vs Drew McFedries (UFC 68)

Kenny Florian vs Dokonjonosuke Mishima (UFC Fight Night)

Georges St Pierre vs Matt Serra (UFC 69)

Mirko Cro Cop vs Gabriel Gonzaga (UFC 70)

Keith Jardine vs Houston Alexander (UFC 71)

Chuck Liddell vs Rampage Jackson (UFC 71)

Spencer Fisher vs Sam Stout (UFC Fight Night)

Tyson Griffin vs Clay Guida (UFC 72)

Houston Alexander vs Alessio Sakara (UFC 75)

Marcus Davis vs Paul Taylor (UFC 75)

Rampage Jackson vs Dan Henderson (UFC 75)

Shogun Rua vs Forrest Griffin (UFC 76)

Jon Koppenhaver vs Jared Rollins (TUF 6 Finale)

Roger Huerta vs Clay Guida (TUF 6 Finale)

Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva (UFC 79)

Georges St Pierre vs Matt Hughes (UFC 79)

All thats really missing is Couture vs Sylvia and oddly theres no Anderson Silva on there.

  11. So I've finally seen Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock from UFC 40.

Absolutely loved it. It started as a bit of a two sided war and even when they took it to the ground, they continued to battle on there in great fashion. It got a bit one sided the more it went on, but Ken Shamrock's absolute refusal to be beaten just kept this going. Ortiz kept throwing bombs and then going for submissions and Shamrock would either 1) not budge or 2) get out in superb fashion.

I was a bit worried going into this fight as many of the big fights I had watched had been a bit disappointing, but this one certainly didn't disappoint.

UFC 40 was a cracker of a card.Besides Tito-Kenny there was Chuck-Babalu 1 aswell with the awesome head kick finish.

Mark Weir vs Phillip Miller on the prelims was a great little scrap aswell. And there was Tiki getting clattered by Robbie Lawler which I never get tired of seeing.

  12. Yeah Im surprised its not on Sky Sports.I love watching Cotto, gonna have to watch online I guess.

Its times like this where I really miss Setanta. The boxing coverage on there was really good plus we got Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour which I used to love.

A year ago we had Sky,Setanta and ITV4 showing live boxing on a regular basis.I wish ESPN would show more live stuff.

  13. I also reckon it's worth noting that Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo from UFC 30 is great fun while it lasts. Both guys just standing and unloading for two rounds.

Yeah Barnett-Rizzo was a lot of fun.The thing I remember most though (besides the awesome KO) was how fat Barnett looked,I know he's never been known for having a ripped physique but that was probably the worst I'd seen him look physically.

I'm watching Ultimate Ultimate '96 again. It's still choc full of manliness and extra chest hair.

Steve Nelmark getting knocked out is still Champeen, along with the most exciting minute you'll ever see in the final.

Oh yes.Don Frye vs Tank Abbott in the final was mental. As much as I love what MMA is now sometimes I just want to watch wild brawls with fat blokes and Tom Selleck look a likes.

  14. Yeah I'm going with Hornbuckle aswell, but wouldn't really be that shocked if Askren pulled it out. These 2 could be around for years yet,I can't wait to see how they develop over the next 2-3 years.

  15. Shit never knew about all that stuff.Still wouldn't wish what happened to him on anyone but that is some seriously fucked up shit.

Thanks for posting that article.Hard to read some of that as a dog owner myself but an interesting read all the same.

  16. Yeah should be a belter.I've been watching a lot of old boxing the last few days. The first Castillo-Corrales fight, some Leonard-Hagler-Hearns-Duran stuff.Gatti vs Ward fights and a few Eubank and Benn fights.

Watched Benn vs McClellan earlier, for the first time since I first saw it at the age of 9.Almost feel bad for saying this considering what happened with McClellan but it was a truly amazing fight. The atmosphere and emotion involved before and during that fight is something that's sorely missing in today's boxing.

The aftermath of the fight still makes for disturbing viewing though.

Such a shame what happened to McClellan. He was a really promising talented boxer and it's sad that he lost his career and more importantly his quality of life.

  17. Pacquiao softens stance on cut-off for testing for Mayweather bout

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has budged. The Filipino champion is now willing to agree to Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s previous cut-off date for a random Olympic-style drug testing protocol. Earlier this year, the two sides failed to reach an agreement for a March mega-fight. The issue of random drug testing was the root cause for the failed negotiations.

The two fighters were unable to agree on the cut-off date for the blood tests. Mayweather wanted a 14-day cut-off on the tests, while Pacquiao wanted the random drug testing protocol to end 24-days before the fight. Now Pacquiao is willing to meet Mayweather's number.

"I am willing to help the sport for the future of the sport. I do not want to see anyone cheat or cheat this sport. For that reason I am willing to consider taking blood as close as 14 days prior to the fight, as long as, my opponent does the same, and it is not a lot of blood, just enough to test," Pacquiao said in a statement on his official website, mpboxing.com .

"I do not want anyone having an unfair advantage where someone may get hurt. I am willing to do my part to help this sport out."

Pacquiao has not yet watched Mayweather's domination of Shane Mosley, but plans to watch the fight very soon. He also agreed to take a blood test immediately after the fight was over.

Nothing is set in stone. The next time the two fighters meet at the negotiating table, Mayweather might issue a demand for a smaller cut-off date or he might even make a demand for the testing to continue until the fight.

    Source is sportsillustrated.cnn.com

I hope this shit gets sorted out soon, this fight needs to happen while they are both still in their prime.

  19. Great couple of days of boxing coming up with Prizefighter on Friday and the Mayweather-Mosley fight Saturday.

Been watching the 24/7 episodes and everyone who said how great they are are spot on.

I can't stand Floyd but I think he's winning this one on points.I know Mosley's bigger and stronger but Floyd's younger, faster and too good defensively for Sugar Shane IMO.I can see him outpointing Shane over 12 rounds.I really hope it's a good fight though.

Hopefully Mayweather-Pacquiao will finally happen if Floyd wins this one.It would be a shame if that fight never happens.

  20. Finally got round to watching this.It was a pretty good night of fights,I enjoyed it.

Huerta vs Hinton was more competitive than I expected going in.Good fight and a pretty cool finish.Huerta gets a lot of stick online and stuff but he's usually always in good fights.I also thought this would've been main event with Huerta being the biggest name on the show.

And man the end of the Karakhanyan/Quach fight was nasty.Fun fight aswell.

Overall a decent enough show.Nothing amazing but nothing bad either, and a couple of fun fights.I'm a sucker for the tournament format anyway and with all the talent involved it'll be must see stuff every week for me.
