  1. UFC Ultimate Fight Night #4 : Bonnar vs Jardine

    Chris Leben vs Luigi Fioravanti

Leben pretty much dominates this fight with wrestling and ground and pound and takes a comfortable decision win.Luigi was a game opponent,7-0 at the time, but Leben was too much for him.Not the usual exciting fight from Leben but not terrible.

    Joe Stevenson vs Josh Neer

This was a good fight.Stevenson didn't look good, apart from an nice leglock attempt early on he didn't show much.Impressive performance from Neer though,he outworks Stevenson for most of the fight and almost puts him away with a big flying knee to the face in the 3rd round.Neer takes the decision.

    Rashad Evans vs Sam Hoger

This was closer than I expected.Rashad wins by split decision but Hoger fought pretty well here.He caught Rashad with some nice shots, especially the one headkick that fucked up Rashad's eye.Hoger also had some decent sub attempts but he spent most of the fight on his back or getting chucked about so the judges went with Evans. Not a great fight but it had it's moments I guess.

    Stephan Bonnar vs Keith Jardine

This is more like it.This was a 15 minute slugfest, really fun fight. Both guys hurt the other and just go all out for the full 3 rounds.Wild brawl, worth tracking down if you haven't seen it.Very underrated fight.

Bonnar got the win 29-28 but I had Jardine winning 2 of the rounds.Thought he got the better of a lot of the exchanges but Bonnar had him hurt a few times.Close fight so can't really complain.

    Few unaired prelims

    Chael Sonnen vs Trevor Prangley

Sonnen is absolutely dominant here, taking Prangley down at will and bloodying him up pretty bad.Outside of a few upkicks Trev has no answer. As usual with Chael, after having his way the whole fight he gets caught in a submission with just 2 minutes to go.He manages to escape and wins a decision.Prangley did wind up on top of Sonnen a couple of times but was unlucky the rounds ended both times.

    Jon Fitch vs Josh Burkman

They trade punches early and Fitch knocks him down with a left.Burkman gets up and Fitch attacks with punches and kicks and takes him down.Burkman's trying but seems to fizzle out in round 2 and Fitch seems to be getting stronger.Fitch finishes him with a rear naked choke in the dying seconds of round 2.Real enjoyable fight.

I swear Fitch looks like a different fighter on these old Fight Nights.

Luke Cummo vs Jason Von Flue

Another pretty good fight here.Cummo's grappling is much improved and he's outstriking Von Flue.Cummo cuts him deep on the forehead with an elbow. For most of the fight Cummo is defending the takedowns and picking him apart with leg kicks.Cummo almost gets him with a few RNC attempts late but Von Flue survives.Von Flue showed a lot of guts in this one but loses on the scorecards.

Pretty good fights for the most part there.

  2. i need to get back on them old fight nights, so much stuff ive forgotten about.

for some reason i never watched Salaverry/Marquadt!? i watched the show but never saw that fight...i remember it causing huge debate online when it happened. Some people were saying it was an awful advert for the UFC (it was the first ever free Spike TV card), and others were saying it was a great fight from a technical standpoint. Need to go back to it.

Don't get your hopes up for that one Ebb.Maybe it's personal taste but I thought it was a crappy fight.Maybe a case of UFC debut nerves for Nate and Ivan coming to the end of his career but it was an uneventful fight. There was nothing technically wrong with what they did, they just didn't do enough.I don't see how anyone could have actually liked the fight.

Reading a bit more about it it turns out Marquardt tested positive for steroids after this fight too,so a disaster all round.

  3. Can't wait for JMM-Katsidis fight.

Marquez has been a favourite of mine for years but I think I might be rooting for Katsidis in this one.I'd love to see him win a fight like this after what's gone on with his brother. If he's missed his brother's funeral that shows how serious he is about this fight, that some serious motivation there.Could affect him really badly if he loses though.

  4. Got some good stuff to watch on the next few Fight Nights.

The next one's headlined by a Bonnar-Jardine fight I remember enjoying at the time, then the shows after that have Anderson Silva's debut vs Chris Leben and the classic Diego Sanchez-Karo Parisyan fight.

Really enjoying some of the rarer shit on these cards. Some little gems I'd either forgotten or never seen like Von Flue-Karalexis.

  5. UFC Ultimate Fight Night #3 : Sylvia vs Silva

    Chris Leben vs Jorge Rivera

They start with a bit of clinch work then it quickly turns into a brawl. They trade punches and Leben catches him with a short left hook that drops Rivera and Leben pounds him out and finishes him off in under 2 minutes.Leben's MMA record improves to 14-1.

    Drew Fickett vs Josh Burkman

Another short fight.About a minute in Burkman throws Fickett to the ground and pounces with a tight guillotine choke which forces the submission.Impressive win for Burkman over a good grappler like Fickett.

    Stephan Bonnar vs James Irvin

Bonnar takes him down quick and pretty much has his way.Almost gets an armbar, ends up back in side control where he traps Irvin against the cage and locks on a kimura.Irvin has nowhere to go and taps.

That's 3 first round finishes on the show so far.

    Duane Ludwig vs Jonathan Goulet

    And speaking of quick finishes......

    ludwiggoulet.gif

That's the entire fight right there

Mario Yamasaki starts the fight, they walk to the centre and Bang Ludwig just cracks him with a quick right to the jaw,Goulet faceplants and Yamasaki's calls an end to proceedings.

This should be known as the fastest knockout in UFC history but the timekeeper fucked up and recorded the wrong time. The official time is 11 seconds but it was no more than 5,which is faster than Todd Duffee's 7 second record holder.

    Tim Sylvia vs Assuerio Silva

Pretty crap fight.Sylvia jabs his way to a decision and almost loses his shorts a few times in the process. Not a pretty sight. That's about it for that fight,it picks up slightly towards the end but by then what little interest I had in the fight had fucked off.

This was the show where they officially announced Royce Gracie was gonna fight Matt Hughes aswell.Hughes and Gracie got in the octagon and said a few words to hype the fight.

Royce : "This is my house...I build it" to a big cheer :) Shame how one sided the fight turned out to be.

There's one unaired prelim on the disc

Alex Karalexis vs Jason Von Flue

This one started out slow but turned into a really fun little war.Picks up steam midway through round 1 and they keep the pace up throughout round 2.

In the third Von Flue debuts what is now known as the 'Von Flue' choke. For anyone who hasn't seen it it's basically a version of an arm triangle but Von Flue was on the opposite side to the traditional way.He never hopped over to the far side and instead drove his shoulder into Karalexis' throat and choked him totally unconscious, stiff legged, twitching the lot.Nasty looking finish.

    Found a vid of it

    'The Von Flue Choke'

  6. UFC Ultimate Fight Night #2 : Tanner vs Loiseau

    Josh Koscheck vs Drew Fickett

Kos absolutely dominating Fickett with his wrestling here.Takedowns, slams, positioning and control and Fickett seems to have no answer for it.

Kos easily takes the first 2 rounds and is having his way in the 3rd when all of a sudden Kos dives recklessly for a takedown and goes face first into a knee that rocks him badly and allows Fickett to lock up a rear naked choke.Kos refuses to tap and goes to sleep with about 30 seconds to go in the fight.

Crazy finish. The grappling equivalent of Scott Smith vs Cung Le 1.

    Brandon Vera vs Fabiano Scherner

Vera takes the first round comfortably with better striking and some good grappling.Round 2 Vera begins picking him apart with leg kicks and takes him out with a big knee from the Muay Thai clinch.

Vera's a cocky fucker post fight and this was where he predicted he'd be holding the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles at the same time in the future.Wonder how that worked out for him :smug:

    Chris Leben vs Edwin Dewees

Dewees pulls guard early and is attempting triangles and armbars off his back but Leben defends well. They stand up,Dewees gets a nice takedown and Leben catches him with an armbar to score a surprising first round submission win.Impressive.

    Evan Tanner vs David Loiseau

Loiseau comes out throwing kicks.Tanner gets the greco clinch and takedown fairly easily.Tanner gets his back and is trying for a RNC but the Crow survives and they stand up.Tanner with an fucking awesome throw and dominates the ground battle for pretty much the rest of the round.

Round 2 - Tanner comes out aggressive with a takedown and some good ground and pound.Tanner gets his back again but Loiseau turns into him and starts unleashing his trademark brutal elbows from inside Tanner's guard.Tanner is cut bad,he tries to soldier on but the doc calls a stop to the fight late in round 2.

Good fight, hate to see fights end on a cut though.Tanner was doing great but them elbows completely turned the fight around. They were fecking vicious.

    Unaired prelims included here are

    Jay Hieron vs Jonathan Goulet

Hieron's wrestling too much for Goulet early on and Hieron handily takes round 1.Round 2 starts and Goulet cuts him with a knee and Hieron's head is pissing blood for the rest of the fight. They continue on to round 3 but the doc has seen enough and Goulet takes a win via doc stoppage.Fuck me another one.

Good little battle though. And one of the bloodiest UFC fights I can recall alongside Struve vs Stojnic from UFC 99.

    Jon Fitch vs Brock Larson

Larson is undefeated going in and starts well with the greco clinch.Fitch gets a takedown and has to fend off some sub attempts.Fitch gets his back and almost finishes him with a RNC.Larson escapes and Fitch just batters him from the back mount until the round ends.

Round 2- Fitch gets him down,Larson trying kimuras from the bottom to no avail.Fitch too good on top and easily wins the round.

Same for round 3,Fitch takes him down and dominates. Some good ground and pound by Fitch and he takes the unanimous decision.Nice fight, some really good grappling on display.

The Spencer Fisher vs Thiago Alves fight isn't on the disc for some reason :( I've still not seen that fight and was quite looking forward to it.Big fan of both guys,I'll have to find it on the net.

  7. Just got hold of a set of every UFC Fight Night so I'm gonna rip off Haraga's idea and work my way through them and putting my thoughts in here

    So here goes

UFC Ultimate Fight Night #1 : Salaverry vs Marquardt

    Josh Koscheck vs Pete Spratt

Kos gets the takedown pretty much straight away.Spratt manages to get up but Kos gets his back, locks in a standing rear naked choke and finishes him Hughes-Trigg style in around 2 minutes.Quick and impressive win for Koscheck.

    Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell

Both guys come out throwing leather right off the bat.About 40 seconds into round 1 Quarry drops him with a left to the chin and hits him once on the ground and referee Cecil Peoples jumps in for a controversial stoppage as Sell had recovered quickly and was saying he was fine.

This led to an awkward moment when Peoples jumped in to stop the fight and basically just clung onto Quarry's back and they all stayed there for about 20 seconds. It looked like a game of pile on like you'd play at school with Peoples on top, then Quarry then Sell squashed at the bottom.

I thought it was a slightly premature stoppage.Drago was hurt but was still conscious and trying to grab Quarry. He wasn't really given a chance to show he was defending himself.

    Stephan Bonnar vs Sam Hoger

We're treated to some awful 'poetry' by Sam Hoger in the pre fight video. It's so shit I felt I had to share it

"If it ends in the first, Stephan's going home in a hearse,

If it goes to the second, you know Sam came wreckin,

And if it goes to the third...in that ring...I know from Stephan Bonnar we'll never have heard"

    Right

Thank fuck the fight was better than that shite.Really fun fight.Bonnar takes the first round with superior grappling and ground and pound.Hoger actually locks up an arm triangle from the bottom which looks pretty tight but Bonnar escapes and drops some good shots on him and ends the round with a flurry of strikes against the fence.

Round 2 - Bonnar gets a takedown and mount but Hoger sweeps him and stays on top for most of the round.Bonnar locks on a kimura from his back and uses it to sweep into the mount and drops elbows and punches to finish the round.

Bonnar dominates round 3,ground and pounding the shit out if him.Hoger almost catches him in a kneebar right at the end but it's too late.Bonnar takes the decision in a very entertaining fight.

    Chris Leben vs Patrick Cote

Two heavy hitters with good chins, this should be fun. Most of round 1 spent in greco clinch until they open up late on with wild punches.Round 2 more of the same but Leben is outworking him in the clinch and in the wild exchanges they're both landing big shots but walking through them.Leben outwrestles him in the 3rd round and earns a split decision win.

Good fight.Lots of clinching but they stayed pretty busy and when they threw they threw hard.

    Mike Swick vs Gideon Ray

This is from the prelims.Swick comes out flailing his arms about with a windmill of arm punches for the KO 22 seconds into

the first round. Not much else to say.

    Ivan Salaverry vs Nate Marquardt

Not much to say about this one. It's Marquardt's UFC debut and he takes a lacklustre decision win.Never gets going, both guys are too cautious but Nate does enough to get the win.

Poor main event to an otherwise enjoyable show.

And the unaired prelims are included here (albeit downloads so not the best quality)

    Kenny Florian vs Alex Karalexis

They come out striking and Florian's getting the better of it with the Thai clinch and a hard body kick that buckles Karalexis for a second.Karalexis comes out fighting hard in the 2nd but Kenny lands an awesome elbow right on the bridge of the nose in one of the exchanges and cuts him pretty bad and Kenny takes the win by doctor stoppage.

    Drew Fickett vs Josh Neer

Short fight.Fickett gets a standing rear naked choke early and they both drop to the floor.Neer quickly goes out and he's all fucked up twitching and trying to grab the ref.Impressive showing from Fickett.

  8. Prizefighter Heavyweights tonight

    First round:

    -Matt Skelton vs. Ali Adams

    -Kevin McBride vs. Franklin Egobi

    -Michael Sprott vs. Danny Hughes

    -Declan Timlin vs. Shane McPhilbin

    Few fights next few months

-Vitali Klitschko vs Shannon Briggs (Oct 16th)

-Evander Holyfield vs Sherman Williams (Nov 12th)

-Manny Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito (Nov 13th)

-Kelly Pavlik vs Bryan Vera (Nov 13th)

-David Haye vs Audley Harrison (Nov 13th)

-Juan Manuel Marquez vs Michael Katsidis (Nov 27th)

-Carl Froch vs Arthur Abraham (Nov 27th)

-Amir Khan vs Marcos Maidana (Dec 11th)

-Jean Pascal vs Bernard Hopkins (Dec 18th)

  9. UFC 91 was a great card top to bottom.Going in I remember people complaining it was a one fight show and everything under the main event was shit.Goes to show you can't bash a card until it's over because UFC 91 was probably the best card UFC put on in 2008.

The card has everything,it's full of exciting fights, cool finishes (KO and subs) and topped off with a huge main event.

Loved Riley/Gurgel,Hazelett/McCrory and Stephens/Dos Anjos in particular.

  10. Oh and UFC 89 was the last time I attended a UFC,for now at least anyway.

Like you say the main card was all about the Taylor-Lytle war.Amazing fight that one.Bisping-Leben and Cane-Sokoudjou were alright too.

The thing with this card was a lot of the best fights were on the prelims. If you can find them the Terry Etim vs Sam Stout fight is a cracking strikefest and Dan Hardy's UFC debut vs Akihiro Gono was a fun fight too.Gono's entrance was excellent.

Davis-Tellys was a huge disappointment to me.I was expecting a FOTN all out war after seeing both guys fights with Paul Taylor. In hindsight I wish they'd have put the Hardy-Gono fight as the main card opener instead. It was a much better fight, plus Gono's entrance would've made TV too.

  11. Dong Hyun Kim vs. Matt Brown

It wasn't a spectacular fight by any means, but it was a busy as hell fight. Certainly plenty to like about it. Kim looked very good in the first round even getting two takedowns in VERY quick succession. Kim was dominant when he had position but Brown seemed to settle down after a while and was able, for the most part, to stop the takedown attempts. Brown even managed to get to the top position a couple of times from the takedown attempts of Kim, but the third round went the same way as the first with Kim getting down Brown and managing to control the fight. The crowd boo the decision, but that's how I had it so you won't find me complaining.

Yeah I had DHK winning that one too.It was pretty close but I never got why Rogan was screaming robbery or why the crowd was booing.

Same with Akiyama-Belcher,I had Akiyama winning.I can see why people might have had Belcher winning but in fights that close you can't really call it a robbery.

    Rashad Evans vs. Chuck Liddell

I forgot how good that punch was. No matter how bad Chuck's chin became, there was no way that thing was going to knock him out. That was VICIOUS. The end of the first round came at such a bad time for Chuck as he was beginning to land anything and everything and made Evans eat some hard shots. When Evans came out for the second round, he seemed like a different and more confident fighter and he had every right to be by the looks of things. That was very impressive.

That was the punch that cracked Chuck's chin in my opinion.

I know he'd been knocked out before, even the same year against Rampage but that punch Rashad whacked him with was scary. After the Rampage fight he fought 2 tough 15 minute wars with Jardine and Wanderlei and took some decent shots and hung in there.

In his fights after the Rashad KO though,he's getting KO'd with seemingly any punch that touches his face.Shogun dropped him with a left hook which didn't look that big of a shot and then Rich Franklin flattened him with one punch.I mean the Franklin punch was on the chin,I'd understand it wobbling or even knocking someone on their arse but it didn't look to have the kind of steam behind it that would knock a guy completely cold.

It's sad to see.Especially in the fight with Franklin, his offence still looked pretty sharp to me.He badly wants to carry on and he's still in great physical shape but his punch resistance is completely shot. For that reason I really hope he doesn't fight again.

  12. Love the recent reviews Haraga.

It's reminding me of some great fights I'd forgot about like Wiman vs Tavares from UFC 85.That was a fucking great little fight that I was lucky enough to see live.

I loved the way Wiman was having a rough time and then between rounds Chuck was in Wiman's corner just staring a hole through Wiman not saying a word.Me and my brother were saying "what the fuck's wrong with Chuck" then Wiman came out like a nutter for round 2 and got the KO.

    wiman-vs-tavares.jpg

We were convinced The Iceman stare possessed Wiman.

And I'll add my praise for Maia vs MacDonald from UFC 87.That was one of the most fast paced, excting displays of BJJ ever in an MMA fight.MacDonald did better on the ground than anyone else in MMA has against Maia, really strong showing he just came up a little short.Awesome fight though, one of my favourite fights from the last few years and it rarely gets mentioned for some reason.

I'd recommend anyone who wants to be check out a great grappling style fight to start with this one and Diego Sanchez vs Nick Diaz from the TUF 2 finale. Both classics.

  13. Yeah, makes you wonder though if Chuck had used his wrestling more in his career he might not be in such a bad position now. He'd have been less predictable and he wouldn't be getting hit as much so his chin might still hold up.

It's helped Randy,he hasn't had much of a chin for a while now but his style isn't so risky. It's sad to say but Randy's last 2 wins - Brandon Vera and James Toney would probably knock Chuck out at this stage.

Then again, standing and knocking people out was what made him so popular in the first place.

  14. Barnett is awesome.

I loved the Chuck/Wandy fight. Chuck must have thought it was close as fuck in his head to be shooting in for takedowns. That was a first for me, never saw him do that. I might go watch 79 now actually.

I think Chuck might have went for the takedowns late on cause he'd knackered himself out and wanted to keep Wand guessing.I haven't seen the fight in a while now but I seem to recall one time he goes fucking beserk trying to put Wandy away,Wand survives barely and Chuck's breathing hard and looking at the clock and stuff. He'd punched himself out.

I think he knew he was probably ahead but didn't wanna risk totally gassing out and Wand getting a late come from behind KO Scott Smith style.

But yeah,an all time classic.I'm gonna have to watch it again soon too.

  15. hatton_early_516_152421a_67704.jpg

Following an emotional meeting with his close family last night, Ricky Hatton is this morning heading into hospital to seek treatment for his current problems.

UK tabloid - News of the World - ran a story on Sunday regarding the former light-welterweight king's drink and drug binges, and posted a clip of Hatton snorting a few lines of cocaine.

During the meeting, Ricky asked for the help of his family and admitted he hadn't realised how his life had got off track recently. He says he feels ashamed at how he has let down his mother & father, son, brother and girlfriend and also apologises to all his fans for his behaviour. The Hitman is now determined to get his life back on track and realises that he needs the professional help that will be available to him in hospital.

Those close to Hatton are deeply concerned about him and are relieved that he has asked for help.

    From 411mania.com

At least he's admitting he's got a problem.Hope he gets himself cleaned up.

  16. Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva

This better match the hype it got both before and afterwards. It seemed to tail off towards the end of the fight, but you can't have it all, can you ? This was madness. There were spells in the first one and a half rounds when they actually appeared to be taking turns at landing combos. When it got to that midway point through the second round though, Chuck began to take more and more control of the fight, almost to the point that he began to pick apart Silva. Silva was a wee bit too standoff-ish when he had Chuck on his arse as well which might well have been costly in the end. This was a terrific fight though and worth the wait.

Yeah that is one of my all time favourite fights by far.Nobody expected it to go the distance but in a way I'm glad it did.If it had been over in 2 minutes it would have been a bit of a 'is that it?' feeling after waiting years to see it.The fact Wand took Chuck's big shots and never went down probably made him even more popular than if he'd won.

Classic fight, one of the rare times where a huge fight lived up to all the hype and probably surpassed it.

    Paul Taylor vs. Paul Kelly

"Taylor's staying in it, but it's kinda futile."

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE !!! Come out. Touch gloves. UNLEASH HELL !!! I don't think I've seen an opening 20 seconds quite like that with both guys exploding and just unleashing rights and lefts on each other. After that it becomes more of a story of Taylor ending up on his back and Kelly really unloads with the bombs when he's down there. For the MOST part, Taylor manages to keep the defence tight, but Kelly gets enough through that Taylor took some major damage including some nasty elbows which opens up a nasty gash on the head which gushes as soon as the elbow hits. A fun fight even if you take out the first 20 seconds.

I was at UFC 80 and Taylor-Tellys was fucking amazing live.2 Brits going all out for 15 minutes, the cut was real bad but Taylor gutted it out.Telly's was vicious on top.Great fight. And with so many quick finishes it made the live broadcast on Setanta which was cool.

My dad never watches UFC but I remember when I came home all he was on about was that fight and the mess BJ made of Joe Daddy's face.Or as my dad put it "that Asian bloke and John Stevens"

  17. Yeah man fucking great stuff tonight from Eastenders.

And Steve McFadden deserves all the awards he gets for his performance as a crackhead/alchy.He did it so well I could swear he was really using the stuff. How do you fake looking that off your tits with the glassy eyes and everything?

  18. i don't think people realise how long Chris Lytle's been in the UFC, i say chuck the fucker in the hall of fame...pound for pound i dont think anyone's had as many good fights as Lytle.

This. The fact that he's been grinding out a job all that time aswell makes him putting on a show for better or worse everytime he steps into the octagon even more impressive.

Yeah Lytle deserves the recognition of the HOF I think. He's alway's in FOTN caliber wars, always gives 100% and he seems like a nice guy too.Doesn't bitch about title shots and stuff he just loves to scrap,he'll fight anyone. That's the kind of guy you want representing the sport.

If he beats Matt Serra I hope they give him the winner of Hardy-Condit.

  19. Got a couple of days off work and got round to watching UFC 41 today. After watching UFC 34 I was looking forward to the Penn/Uno and Lindland/Baroni rematches.

    UFC 41: Onslaught

Ken Shamrock joins the commentary team with Mike Goldberg for this one.And they have a blonde girl doing the post fight interviews here for some reason, think she was on a few UFC's round this time. She didn't do a bad job but the fact she was taller than most of the fighters looked a bit weird.

She's better to look at than Joe Rogan though that's for sure ;)

    Anyway the fights

    Yves Edwards vs Rich Clementi

This was a pretty good fight.Very solid showing from Edwards,he controls most of the fight and does more damage. In the 3rd Yves gets Clementi's back and secures a rear naked choke for the win.

    Gan McGee vs Alexandre Dantas

Short and sweet.Dantas keeps dropping for leglocks,McGee defends and rains down heavy punches for the TKO finish in round 1.

    Matt Serra vs Din Thomas

This was a bit disappointing, not the fight you'd expect from these 2.Basically Serra tries for takedowns the whole time and finds no success with it while Thomas lands some nice counter punches. That's pretty much the story of the fight for 15 minutes.Serra finally gets a takedown right at the final buzzer but it's way too late.Din Thomas gave a pretty impressive performance, albeit not that exciting. His sprawl looked great here and his hands were good too.

So fairly comfortable decision win for Thomas....but when Buffer read the decision it was announced as a win for Matt Serra. As it turned out one of the judges fucked up his scorecard and gave Serra the points he wanted to give Thomas.Cause they look so alike right, easy mistake  Anyway the decision was later overturned and the win was rightfully given to Thomas.

This isn't explained on the DVD though,so anyone watching would have just assumed Thomas got ripped off.

    Pedro Rizzo vs Vladimir Matyushenko

Vlad was able to control Rizzo with wrestling and ground and pound and Rizzo couldn't get anything going. Not great but a good showing for Vlad, his wrestling made the difference here and he took the decision clearly.

    Matt Lindland vs Phil Baroni

Similar to their first fight with Lindland going for an aggressive wrestling attack and Baroni just trying to take his head off every chance he gets. There was a ton of trash talk for this one and the fight itself is really intense.Lindland probably took this win more convincingly than the first time but Baroni gave 100% for the whole 15 mins,he landed some big shots like the first fight and even at the very end he was hammering hard body shots in.

    Really enjoyable,mega heated battle.

    (UFC Lightweight Title)

    BJ Penn vs Caol Uno

Surprisingly after such a short fight last time, this one goes the full 5 rounds and is so close it ends up being scored a draw.I actually thought BJ just about edged it though.I had BJ winning rounds 1,4 and 5 and Uno taking 2 and 3 but it was pretty close.

Bit of an odd fight though, there were parts with great action and some nice grappling but there were also times where neither guy would engage.Uno was taking down BJ quite a bit in this fight which was impressive and handled himself pretty well on the feet too.

Not bad but not a classic or anything.

    Tank Abbott vs Frank Mir

Not much to say about this one really.Tank stuffs a takedown attempt, winds up on top, seconds later Mir's got him in a nice omaplata/toe hold combo and Tank is forced to tap all in about a minute.

Everyone thought Tank was gonna give Mir a pasting but he had no clue how to deal with someone with a really dangerous guard like Mir.

    (UFC Heavyweight Title)

    Ricco Rodriguez vs Tim Sylvia

Ricco comes out with Felix Trinidad waving the Puerto Rican flag and seems very overconfident since winning the title from Randy.Couple of minutes in Sylvia cracks him with a big straight right that puts him on his back and Timmy follows up with about 4 punches on the ground (2 of which luckily miss or they'd have been picking Ricco up with a dustpan and brush) and the ref puts a stop to it.Tim Sylvia is the new heavyweight champion.

The behind the scenes feature is great.Especially the Baroni-Lindland stuff and Tank Aboott.Lindland and Baroni rip into each other.Baroni's his usual foul mouthed self and Lindland joins in on the smack talk calling him 'an arrogant little prick'.It's interesting to see Lindland playing Baroni at his own game and trying to get under his skin at the weigh ins.Randy even says that was the plan to get Baroni wound up.

Tank Abbott actually comes across as a really good guy on the extras here. He's calm and totally out of character. You see him talking to fans, posing for pictures, joking around with Dana,Buffer and the Fertitta's.And the highlight - asking a guy (dunno who he was,a fan or one of Tank's mates) to go out and get him chocolate bars and Skittles

Weird seeing a guy like Tank out of fight mode.
