  1. Manowar have said on Twitter they will be touring the UK in November (no dates announced as yet), no doubt to coinside with the 'Hammer Of The Gods' album

    I have little interest in Manowar but i went to Metal Camp last year and they had a big tent in the camping area for the Manowar festival thing the day after. They played bands and had quizzes and stuff for Manowar fans.

    And their fans are so varied, from little kids to old school metallers and generally just really geeky (1 of the quizzes was on Norse Mythology?!) . Me and my friend went their quite alot just cos the fans and people in there were really nice.

    Kreator have just been announced for Brutal Assault which i am going to this year. The line-up is looking pretty good now.

    They are one of my all-time favourite bands. They are one the bands that show everything thats brilliant about metal and everything thats daft about metal in equal measure. I have a base understanding of Norse Mythology, but I better that quiz attracted alot of geeks who claim to be "true metal". From a technical standpoint, they're a great band, but the pagentry that comes with them can be a bit much sometimes.

    I was reluctant to pay

  2. So, after giving the new Morbid Angel album a couple of listens over the last couple of days, Ive had a chance to take it all in.

    To say that this is going to polarise fans is beyond an understatement. Lots of people are going to hate it on the basis that this is "not a Morbid Angel" album. However, I commend the band for taking a chance with it. At the end of the day, its been 8 years since 'Heretic' was released, and they have obviously had to try and show some kind of progression since that last album, having had David Vincent come back to the band. Having David Vincent back in on Bass/Vocals does not hurt the album one bit, his vocals are actually understandable compared to Steve Tucker's. And Tim Yeung puts in another great performance (as he always does) on the drums. But whilst 'Heretic' was a very back-to-basics, stripped down juggernaut of an album, 'Illud Divinum Insanus' seems to go too far the other way. The somewhat 'industrial' experimentation of the album is also very much its downfall. Whilst the most synth-laden tracks ('Too Extreme!' and 'Destructos vs. The Earth/ Attack') are not bad tracks, they do out of place under the Morbid Angel banner. Don't get me wrong, this is not an unrecognisable, complete diveation to industrial-mess like Danzig's 'Danizig 5: Blackacidevil', its mearly a gamble that does not pay-off, in the same way that Megadeth's ironically named 'Risk' album didn't work. Rather than a progressional transistion to a new sound, Morbid Angel seem to have done what Metallica did (when they tried to regress their sound) in 2003 with 'St Anger' and go too far, too quickly.

    Narrow-minded, ignorant 'fans' of metal will shit all over this and try to tell Morbid Angel (of all bands) how they should be making a death metal album (i.e. its only death metal if it has 56876434654 drum beats per minute), but ultimately, the band have tried something new, rather than just sticking to what brought them to the dance 22 years ago. Sometimes, a shift in sound can be a great thing (Pantera completly changed their sound in the early 90's, as did Testament in the later 90's) and sometimes the gamble does not pay off (Machine Head's 'Burning Red', In Flames 'Soundtrack To Your Escape'), but the band should not be held in contempt because of this poor showing. At the end of it all, they are still Morbid fucking Angel, and one of the biggest selling and most influential death metal bands to ever exist

  3. surprisingly never got into Priest, recommend a place too start?

    Same here. I've tried getting into Priest but something just doesn't click for me.

    I saw them live in Glasgow back in 2005 supported by The Scorpions and the Scorps totally blew them offstage too.

    I saw them on the Manchester date of that tour and Scorpions were better technically, but Priest put on more of a show, so I called it a draw

  4. surprisingly never got into Priest, recommend a place too start?

    The early 70's albums all show how influential Judas Priest were on metal, particularly British metal, bands to follow, 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' and 'Sin After Sin' are prob the best of the 70's album. 1980 saw 'British Steel' released, which in my opinion is one of the greatest metal albums ever made. Further listening from the 80's era include 'Screaming For Vengeance' and 'Defenders Of The Faith'.

    On top of all those, you've got the 'Painkiller' album when Scott Travis got behind the drumstoll, and even the Tim 'Ripper' Owens albums ('Jugulater' and 'Demolition') have their moments

  5. "Dear friends,

    "It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer.

    "Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am OK.

    "There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band's management for some time. Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans. However, I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.

    "All my love and respect."

  6. Meant to post up earlier; anyone got anything on the Masters ?

    Layed out McIllroy at 6.6 last night as he had a similarly good 1st round performance at last years Open when the weather was tame and the flags were in favourable position before capitulating when the wind picked up and the pin positions got trickier. Hopefully same happens again over next three days or i am gubbed.

    Small stakes from the start on Kuchar, O'Hair, Goosen and Casey to finish inside top 10. Too risky to predict a winner outright at this stage, throwing money away IMO.

    I went with Mickelson E/W at 6/1 yesterday. But he's driffted out to 18s now, so I reckon that can be written off

  7. For some reason or another I never got round to getting these, was wondering if anyone can help me out with them:

    * Edge: Decade of Decadence

    * Shawn Michaels: My Journey

    * Road Warriors: Life & Death of Wrestlings Most Dominant Tag Team

    * Brian Kendrick & Paul London's Excellent Adventure (Shoot INterview)

    if anyone can help, let me know via PM

  8. People know Im probably as big a fan of Blaze Bayley as anyone on the board, but its not suprising that gets the Benoit treatment. Bruce will always be 'the voice' of Iron Maiden.

    The Bayley era albums have some great tracks. X Factor is a great album and more ambitious than any of their work before that. Virtual XI is not the greatest, but has good moments (Futureal, When Two Worlds Collide, Clansman, Como Estais Amigos).

    The same can said for Paul DiAnno. An important part of the bands formation, but ultimately lives in Bruce's shadow

  9. I only heard bit of Stampin' Ground here and there, but what I heard wasnt bad.

    Got hold of my copy of the new Cavalera Conspiracy album 'Blunt Force Trauma' in the post today. You know what your getting with them. Hardly ground breaking, but if you want something loud, fast and brutal, it does the job. Roger Miret (Agnostic Front) guests on the song 'Lynch Mob'. The version I've got is the deluxe edition with the bonus tracks, which includes a cover of Black Sabbath's 'Electric Funeral'. Sadly, their cover of Black Flag's 'Six Pack' isn't included, I think its only on the US version, but I'm sure it can be found on a torrent once its released properly
