  1. Anyway, went to see Moon on Sunday which is absolutely sublime. I'd love to say I'd recommend it to anyone but it is quite slow moving. I thought it was fabulous though and Sam Rockwell is brilliant. Hopefully if this Bowie kid continues to release movies like this, he'll be bringing more to the table than his parental connection.

All of THIS, right here. Zowie done good. I think opinions will definitely vary on it, they certainly have with the people I saw it with/recommended it to, but I loved it. Sam Rockwell absolutely nails it. I could just be overrating him based on how awesome he is in other films, but I thought Kevin Spacey was ace too.

  2. Who's doing the commentary on the Demolition/Killer Bee's match on the Allied Powers - Worlds Greatest Tag Teams dvd? Thanks.

Unless they've edited the commentary, this was from a Prime Time TV taping show, so the commentary team are Bruce Prichard, Pete Doherty & Mike McGuirk.

  3. Only just started watching TNA again and wondering if someone can tell me when PPVs, like Sunday's Victory Road, are shown on Bravo, if at all. Thanks

I think its usually the Wednesday after the PPV happens at 9.

    That is correct.

Just to add, it's Bravo 2, as well. I always forget this every month, and then worry that it's not on for whatver reason.

  4. Anyone seen "The Life and Times of Tim"? It's a cartoon from HBO that has been broadcast on Virgin1. I haven't caught it yet but it's HBO and the ads for it were funny. I have it on download at the moment...

It's absolutely brilliant. It's anarchic and witty, and had a real underground feel to it, a lot like the spurt of animated comedies that only rose to a certain level in the 90s, like Dr Katz, Duckman & Stressed Eric.

Week on week, it's been destroying new episodes of Family Guy in terms of quality, and the two episodes per show format works a treat too, just like Beavis & Butthead did. Highest recomendation from me.

  5. Always wanted to know specifically when Nation Of Domination was formed and when Sgt Slaughter became heel in 1990.

    From Historyofwwe.com

    WWF Superstars

7/21/90 - featured an 'Update' segment where it was announced Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart would face WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition at Summer Slam in a Best 2 out of 3 falls contest and only two members of Demolition would be allowed at ringside; it was also announced that despite Brutus Beefcake being sidelined with injury that WWF IC Champion Mr. Perfect will still defend the IC Title at Summer Slam; included the announcement WWF World Champion the Ultimate Warrior would face Rick Rude in a steel cage match at the show; featured Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan as guests of the Brother Love Show, during which Rude said he would be facing the Warrior before Summer Slam and he would be champion going in to the event; included a promo from Sapphire showing a bracelet she had received from a mystery admirer; featured the first vignette promoting the return of Sgt. Slaughter, with Slaughter saying he was no longer proud of his country after they welcomed Nikolai Volkoff with open arms and that America was soft:

Then it was all vignettes and interviews about how shit the USA was (including accepting a Great American award from Brother Love at Summerslam 90, looking fat as fuck) until 9th September, when he returned to the ring, squashing a jobber.

  6. I personally loved the ending as it only serves to emphasise Sheriff Bell's violent disconnection from a world he no longer understands.

Couldn't agree more. Loved the ending.

Last night I watched Quarantine and Very Bad Things, both for the first time. Regarding Quarantine, supposedly [REC], the film it's based on, is better, but I did enjoy it. And Very Bad Things was just outstanding. Christian Slater owned the show as usual, but I'm starting to believe Jon Favreau is incapable of sucking. Even in shit films, he's enjoyable.

  7. Depp looks like a man who was given little in the way of a fleshed out character to play and therefore compensates by giving something of a 'performance', it's not Pirates bad but it's still shit.

Woah - what's wrong with Depp's Pirates performance? It was fucking great - he made Captain Jack Sparrow into one of the most recognisable characters in movie history.

He's awesome, but Jack Sparrow was way too panto for my tastes. And not in a knowing, "hes supposed to be wacky" way either. Just jarring and irritating. Great for kids though.

  8. Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

What a fucking massive waste of time.

Low expectations, expected plenty of good gags between the wafer thin plot and Seth Rogan having no problem snaring women that wouldn't go near him in real life. Was hardly any.

Not charming, not funny, not worth it.

  9. Well, seeing as everybody else is doing it, here's my Top 15. Official Top 50 appearances in bold. My list didn't make that much of a dent, I don't think. Look forward to the Top 100 list though.

  10. just seen a couple of films that im keen on in hmv sale. however these particular films seem to have some varied reviews(and for some reason im always somewhat swayed by reviews).

so then, what do you all make of Juno and Burn After Reading?

Not seen Burn After Reading. Juno (on these boards in particular) seems to be a love it or hate it film (I've seen Mr Seven have more than one rant about it in this very thread), but for me I thought it was an enjoyable comedy albeit with a pretty basic plot. I'd say its worth a purchase if its only a few quid but there's plenty here who will say avoid like the plague.

I loved Juno. It was far, FAR too "perfect" considering the massive events that were taking place in people's lives and uses seasonal time changes to avoid shooting scenes in which the characters actually have to confront and deal with the consequences and effects of their actions, but I loved it anyway. I think if you can get round the lazy storytelling (and the fucking pretentious soundtrack, for that matter), it's very enjoyable.

God, I've slagged it off there more than I thought I would. Anyway, I rate it.

I really enjoyed Burn After Reading first time round, but second time it pissed me off, being too snarky for it's own good and revelling in it's own irrverence. Thought the whole thing came off as pretty smug once I knew what was coming. People's mileage with it seem to vary wildly though.

  11. Jericho in 1998 was solid gold. Speaking of which - anyone know what happened to Ralphus?

I'm not sure what he's up to, but I do remember somebody in an interview once saying he became a major diva with a star attitude when he was on TV every week back then. Can you even imagine it??

  12. Here's an interesting one: Donnybrook Theatre.

A never-aired concept that Wrestlecrap profiled here. Done in 1995, it was due to be the first time WWF ever openly slagged off Hogan since he left the company, was to feature Yokozuna's first ever american speech, show Vince Russo's face to a large audience for the first time and featured Lord Alfred Hayes long after his last appearance on TV.

Obviously, it's total garbage. In that fun mid-90s way, though.

WWE 24/7 recently released it to the world. And then, to be cool, somebody posted it on Youtube.

    Enjoy.

  13. I didn't know that Uncle Cletus was Tony Anthony. I thought he disappeared after TL Hopper. WWF really was in the shit during the summer months of 1996.

Summerslam bikini beach blast-off pun intended?

    I'm such a fucking nerd.

  14. I really thought the Doink gimmick had lots of potential. Many people are scared of clowns, so a wrestling clown with a personality disorder would have been a great heel.

    What ever happened to Dink?

Nothing, after that. It was Tiger Jackson that played him, I think, so I'm pretty sure he settled into the indies wherever he can still get work.

I too love heel Doink, but sadly thinking of Dink pretty much makes me think of everything I don't like about wrestling.

  15. Okay, seems like a controversial question to ask, but it's a forum one: What's this about a picture, Lexx, and the police? Seriously, I've seen it mentioned a few times, I'm not sure if it's a joke, or what exactly the punchline is and I've seen Lexx from when she used to work for the IWF. What's the crack?
