  1. Now I feel stupid. When the WWE last toured, I recognised Kerwin Silfies and said hello. He was a nice bloke and seemed quite touched there was a geek that cared enough about his work. I didn't recognise him at all in that guise though.

    Cheers

  2. The Butterfly Effect is one of the worst films ever made. It's a smart movie for dumb people.

Smart movies for dumb people could be a thread all to themselves, quite honestly. They do my fucking head in. Well, them and the people afterwards who bang on about how clever the film was. It makes me the very worst level of pretentious I am capable of.

  3. Chain Letters, in the series link for the last few weeks on Challenge. Two episodes a day, and a great thing to have on in the background, if you're having tea, etc. Dave Spikey is beyond horrendous at presenting it though.

Also, because I've only ever seen maybe half the episodes (and always out of order), I've started watching Scrubs from scratch, as I caught the pilot on E4 a couple of weeks back and decided it was as a good time as any. So far I'm enjoying it loads, but one thing hasn't changed from my opinions as a half-interested fan. Is JD supposed to be cast as the most dislikable twatface ever? What a whining, mugging fucking little scrote. I hate him and wish no happiness to come to his character.

Ted Robbins was best at Chain Letters. And he's a Wrexham supporter, so it's all good.

He's also Paul McCartney's second cousin you know....not that he ever mentions that...

  4. In terms of his work in wrestling, or elsewhere, who the fuck was Wink Collins, the guy who played the quizmaster on the TeeVee trivia skits (including that one lambasting Ted Turner), and appeared on Raw one night to plug Wrestlemania 14 tickets? Cheers.

  6. How come loads of people on here have changed their profile names??

Was a choice given to everyone for the name changes? I'm not at all bothered as I would not have changed mine, but because lots of peeps are different now, I've lost track of a few of the good posters I like reading from and the shitty retards that need avoiding.

Is there any chance of a list of who has changed, and to what.

    ???

The name changes offered some people a great chance at shaking off prejudices people held about their ability to be chronically shit posters. By 'starting again', you could forget who was terrible and people had the chance to make a new first impression.

"C/W Mark Please!" spectacularly threw that all away in the Jordan thread.

  7. Just found out I'm potentially going to see Fish Tank and Away We Go this weekend. What a great couple of days for films that could be. DVD with the other half tonight too, my choice and I've just acquired a decent copy of it, so she's getting Moon and fucking liking it. I've been wanting to see it for a while.

  8. I watched Hamlet 2 last night. I've been wanting to see it for quite a while as I'm a big fan of Steve Coogan. It's basically about a failed actor turned drama teacher who puts on pathetically bad plays based on popular movies. He learns that due to school budget cuts his drama class has been axed and he's to put on one final play, but of his own material this time, a sequel to Shakespears Hamlet.

And it's a pretty crap film.

Coogan puts on a simply awful American accent which just seems stupid and really made me dislike the film more. It's just shockingly bad. There's a few decent laughs along the way but nothing consistantly funny. A couple of funny songs in the play itself at the end, such as "Rock Me Sexy Jesus", leave you at least smiling a bit and not thinking the film was complete trash, but ultimatly it was very disappointing.

I'm a big Steve Coogan fan too, but he's got a bit of a reverse midas touch with films. This, The Parole Officer, Phileas Fogg, all fucking terrible. His bit part in Tropic Thunder was okay, but it was a bit part and never went anywhere. A Cock & Bull Story was as good as it got, and so much of that was snarky in-jokes and nods to fans, so of course you would get some enjoyment. I think he's a far less flexible performer when he's not playing something he has complete control over.

EDIT: Just remembered 24 Hour Party People, he was great in that. That's one.

  9. Can somebody tell me who is responsible for the amusing quote about the UKFF in neil's sig, and any context behind why they said it? Thanks.

It's a quote from the letter that was "sent in" to Powerslam moaning about the ukff if i remember correctly. Someone claimed to have been treated harshly on here for posting spoilers.

As in, somebody didn't really send one in, and PS had some grief with the UKFF?

  10. Hi guys

When did the wwe vintage collection start in the UK and how many eps have there been? I have been trying to find a list of recaps but have been able to do date? Has it been a weekly thing or has their been gaps in the shows? Is it still on today on sundays etc.

It started in June 2008 (I think), and has been on pretty much every week since then, so you're looking at around 60-odd episodes. And yeah, still on Sundays on Sky Sports 3, around the 10am time, and repeated once or twice throughout the week, including right before Raw on Mondays.

  11. In typically arrogant fashion, WWE debuted the Bashams in complete contrast to their gimmick which was running concurrently in OVW. (They were a tag-team of brothers in WWE whilst engaged in a feud at the same time in OVW.)

I've read a few times in the past that Jim Cornette came up with some genius explanation which he presented in OVW which explained whilst these two combatants could hate each other in the local territory whilst also working together as a team on the national stage.

Unfortunately, I don't know what this explanation was.

    Can anybody enlighten me, please?

It was that, luckily, nobody really gives a flying fuck about OVW, so they can do what they want.

Okay, I kid (a bit). Didn't Power Slam mention something about it being a mutual respect for each other outside of OVW confines due to the sheer hatred for the 'talentless' WWE roster or something like that? As a way to make OVW look extra special too?

  12. Girlfriends choice last night, so we watched The Strangers. Standard 00's cat and mouse hollywood horror, but with some absolutely rotten acting throughout. Not that I had high expectations, but the whole thing was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. Considering there are some periods of non-action, not enough was being done in those parts to make me feel tension. Unlike something like Funny Games, which had me awaiting more doom every two minutes.

  13. Watched David Cronenberg's Crash over the weekend, mildly disappointing. I felt that any sort of story or narrative was ruined by the lazy over-reliance on graphic sex stuff, it was more like watching a better directed, more gruesome version of Red Shoe Diaries. I really wanted it to be a great film, it just never got there.

  14. Is there such thing as Deathmatch wrestling in the uk and do female uk wrestlers do them at all?

Have Death Matches happened in the UK? Very infrequently, but yes.

Only "Death Match show" I am aware of, however, was by Germany's WXW at the end of 96 at the Hippodrome in Colchester which involved Zack Sabre Jr, Ian Rotten, Mickie Knuckles, Steve Douglas, Bad Bones and others.

As for female death match workers in the UK? I'm pretty sure there are none.

'96 at it had Zack on the show? What was he, 9? :duh:

    I assumed he meant 06...

  15. You're a rom-com man, JLM, so what are your views on "The Ex" and "Just Friends"? Any good?

You didn't ask me, but I'm chiming in on "The Ex", because it boiled me a bit at the time. Here's my bile from this very thread:

Forgot to post in my Marley rage, but also watched The Ex, a nothing romcom with Zach Twat from Scrubs, Amanda Peet and Jason Bateman. It's a rudderless, spineless effort with very little worth remembering, but Jason Batemen was excellent, I mean, a complete dick, and really deserved better from the director for his performance. The whole film just felt like a waste of everybody's time. Paul Rudd's turn as a dickhead boss was a pleasant surprise, but other that, it's just not worth it.

But watch it anyway. I've never heard anybody else ever comment on it and am curious to see if it's just me. Marley & Me had put me in such a bad mood anyway, maybe I was harsh.

  16. <-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

It was more of a standard murder-mystery, than anything to do with Science-Fiction. I also couldn't take Billy Connolly seriously as the paedophile priest. Terrible.

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

Suddenly I want to see this film. He was BORN for that role, in my opinion. In fact, I would like so much for that to be true in real life, I don't even need to suspend my disbelief!

  17. They discussed Bear Vs. Lion matches on QI a while back. The lion had no chance. As soon as it got anywhere close to the bear, the bear would just smash its face off. The lion couldn't do any harm because it couldn't get close enough to use its teeth.

All that, plus Bear's are rock.
